I am patient, compassionate, and humorous.
My Self-Summary
Actually, the question about "Three Adjectives (that describe you)"
is rather funny. I'd studied runecasting for a few years, and I
found that three
Runes were very close to me. The most
modern (but not entirely accurate) translations would be Patience,
Compassion, and Humor. I wear them on my necklace and they're in my
tattoos.
Born and raised in New Jersey. Went to Buffalo for college
(
Canisius!), fell
in love with the area. Went back to NJ for a year or so afterwards,
but...I love
Buffalo, even though I'm not from here.
I love the people, the atmosphere, the shops, the culture, even the
snow. :)
I'm very creative, and very flexible with my creativity. I can't
draw worth a darn, but I'm a talented writer, a chain maille
artist, and experienced with making home movies that people
actually like.
I'm also very forward with information about myself. I am in a
mindset of, "Hey, here's me, here's how I think, here's how I act,
here's anything you might wanna know." Right out there. No games or
surprises. It's not intriguing, but it's honest.
What I’m doing with my life
I've just moved back to Buffalo; getting my act together. Excited,
worried...but very glad to be back.
Also recovering from a rather serious sciatic issue. Ever have a
toothache? Imagine that feeling running down the back of your
entire leg; from your hip to your heel. No fun. Nothing but bedrest
and chiropractor visits for me for a while.
(Update: The pain has receded ALOT, it's at least half of what it
used to be. I'm going to be getting back into my regular swing
soon.)
Oh, and I recently taught myself how to bake. Been making bread for
the last couple weeks. Lemme tell ya...there is nothing like a
sandwich that you build with bread fresh out of the oven. NOTHING.
I’m really good at
• I've been making
chain maille since about 2001. My
homepage -
http://ferromancer.home.comcast.net
- has pictures of many of the things I've made so far. I enjoy the
creative aspect of it, the artisticness....but I've also made some
pretty stout armor pieces, as well. Everything from stainless steel
shirts to fine silver jewelry, that's me. :)
• I'll be subtle with this one. I have several titles. I'm a
Corporal, a Merrymaker, a Hallowed one, a Love Fool, an Elder, an
Explorer, a Chef, a Diplomat, a Brewmaster, a Loremaster, a Seeker,
and an Ambassador. I'm a Champion of the Frozen Wastes, and I don't
mean Buffalo. :)
• I use
Macintosh computers, and I have since
1994. That being said, I work in tech support, and since you can't
survive in that industry without Windows experience, I know
Windows. Subsequent to this and the previous statement: yes, I am a
huge geek. :) Admitted!
• In 2007, I succeeded during
NaNoWriMo. Wrote a 50,000 word story
(that, in retrospect, wasn't that great. Maybe it's just me.
*shrug*). I've written a couple dozen poems, was the
editor-in-chief of my college literary magazine, can come up with
haikus in about 20 seconds, and they often good. :)
Oh, also. I will put this all in caps simply to show you how
serious I am about this. I HAVE THE PERFECT PHONE VOICE. IT IS
PERFECT. WHEN I ASK PEOPLE FOR THEIR PHONE NUMBER AT WORK, THEY
THINK THAT I'M THE MACHINE AND WILL *DIAL* IT AT ME. I COULD DO
VOICEOVERS FOR MOVIES. (in fact, I talked to someone once that gave
me the name, address, and phone number of a voice acting director
in California. If I ever move there....) I surprise people when I
talk, and my voicemail message sounds like a professional
recording. Not even my MOTHER recognized me on it, it's so good.
The first things people usually notice about me
Heh - I'm pretty tall. :) Height has its issues; though - too many
to get into here. I'm on a diet, and I've lost nearly 60 lbs. Got
about 20 or so to go, I'd say. Roughly.
Other than that, I'm balding rather prematurely, so I used to shave
my head. On me, it looks good.
And you know what the first interesting thing was, when I first
shaved my head? My pillow felt AWESOME! Try it. Go on, try it. I'll
wait.

• Food: I'm not much of an experimental eater, but I'm not
terrified of foods I've never had. Not a big fan of spicy stuff. I
like some kinds of sushi, though, and I can eat with chopsticks
like a native. :)
The six things I could never do without
Things I could NEVER do without? Well, that's rough. When people
are put to the test, we can live without alot - even things we
consider basic commodities, but there are some things (my car, my
computer, my iPhone, my internet connection, the bed I made, the
desk I made) that I don't WANT to live without.
There are some things that I am currently living without, so let's
not include those and just stick with the things that make the
little everyday trials bearable. It might not be six.
• Music. It's rare that I don't have a song stuck in my head.
• Books. I read...alot. Daily. Mass quantities.
• Freedom of speech. I guess it gets taken for granted. But I've
got too much in my head not to be able to speak when I want
to.
• Friendship. After I moved to Buffalo, I knew NOONE. It was "Punch
in, punch out; go to work and go back home." Nothing worth living
for. My friends are a comfort to me.
• Honesty. I'd do anything for my friends, without thought to the
contrary. Being honest with me is the least I expect in return.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Lots of things. I can't turn off my brain too easily. I overthink
and overanalyze and overnitpick things, when sometimes I think I
should just ACT on them. But . . . well, people are weird.
My latest thoughts are about the very, very stupid "Personality
Traits" at the bottom of this page. Some of them, I might agree
with. More Sloppy? I DO have a Y chromosome, so yes. More Dorky?
HELLO, I'm a computer geek. Less Kinky? OK, guess so. More Pure?
See prior answer. Less political? Hell yeah.
Then there are some that skirt the edge. Less Ambitious? Less
Independent? More Competitive? Those are really grey areas.
Less Optimistic? No. It's wrong. It just is. But that's not what's
ticking me off right now.
I refuse - flat out REFUSE - to accept the "Less Well-Mannered"
one. I am kind and polite to a point of near Canadian-ness. I smile
at strangers on the street, and wish people a nice day, randomly.
When driving, I let cars with their blinkers on merge. I stop for
people on bikes. I hold doors for people behind me (men and women
alike). So the HELL with that. LESS WELL-MANNERED? NO WAY. My momma
raised me right.
On a typical Friday night I am
If my friends are free (and so am I), we like going to Karaoke (I
do a version of
Adam Sandler's "Piece of S**t Car"
that would crack you up). Of course, ALL of us are HUGE geeks, so
we like playing
Dungeons and Dragons, too.
Yep, a bunch of late 20s and early (and some of us, late) 30s
people, hanging out, joking around, having a great time together,
stretching our imaginations, sharing experiences....
It's really a great time. Wish we could do it more often.
I'm not much of a bar-crawler, but I used to go to the Continental
when it was still open. I'm on a first-name basis with the owner of
Club Diablo. Most times when I was going to the club, I was the
designated driver anyway. Hey, I might not drink, but I don't mind
when my friends do - and if I can help them have a good time by
taking away the worry about who's driving, all the better!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I am "uniquely flexible". I'll let your mind wander with that one.
*smirk*
You should message me if
• You're looking for someone to bounce ideas off of, or have an
interesting conversation with
• You're looking for creative suggestions to boring problems
• You're wondering about maille, or D&D, or Runes, or my other
interests
• You're a geek. :)
• You're tired of the bar scene, and you're looking to meet a guy
that's the farthest thing from a 'player' in existence.
Also, a clarification on the notes in the sidebar. I don't
drink...but I have NOTHING against social drinkers. In fact, I used
to have a small bar in one of my old apartments, and did an OK job
at tending it at parties. :) Hell, I've been Designated Driver more
times than I can remember. :) So drinking is cool. :)
Smoking, on the other hand, I can't put up with. Please don't think
of it as intolerance...it's something near an allergy. The smell of
cigarettes in a small, enclosed place (a room, a car, etc)
literally makes me nauseous. There's been so many cool people I
wanted to message on here...but they smoke. *sigh* It's
frustrating.
