My self-summary

Okay, now there's this guy right? And he thinks he's a little smarter then he actually is. Nice for the random facts (which, once in a while turn out to be useful), but tends to be a little lacking in the common sense, ya know?

He's also got a rather nasty habit of being really lousy at flirting when he's actually interested in someone. Kind of keeps his Friday nights free... until work calls and says, "Hey, Dan, are you still a dateless loser? Cool, come here and be our whore!"

Lousy job... but their money is so rewarding. I feel such a dirty whore, and not in the more fun way.

Oh yeah, and he's a total smegging geek. For one thing he knows the word smeg and uses it in language. And he plays those soul devouring role playing games. They mess with your mind, you know.

He also has this... other side. He likes, you know. The "strange things". You know, underground rock groups, bloody horror films. SCA events.

Ohh, the horror. That's a story. He has a nasty habit of laughing at the over-the-top bloody bits of modern horror films and making snarky remarks. Too much of that MST3K. Lousy hilarious robots.

I also read. Not as much as I used to- I'm down to a book a month, but I do read a lot for classes also, and keep abreast of all the major developments in the world of politics, world of science, the world of Renaissance Faires, etc.

And he yammers on and on. Like this one time, he was supposed to summarize himself and he ends up yammering on, and on, and on...

What I'm doing with my life

Ever hear of the SCA? The Society for the Creative Anachronism. Basically it's a group of people who re-enact a certain period of history, the arts, sciences, music, food, and the fighting.

That's right. I dress up in armor and hit other people with a giant piece of bamboo for fun. Don't worry, they're trying to hit me back. And I'm REALLY green behind the gills, so generally the painful blows go one way. I'm trying to get into this high prestige household whose fighting skills are through the roof, but... time constricts.

Ohh, and school. Can't forget school. Here's one for you- a Behavioral Neuroscience major with an ethics minor. Too much thinking, not enough result.

EMS. I'm an EMT for a profession. No, don't get excited. I don't do street 911. I work for a company which is responsible for emergency calls at nursing homes and a local prison. So yeah, I can do all the fun and glamorous stuff, but mostly it's old people who the nursing homes forget that breathing is a GOOD thing until the person is turning blue. Hey, it's stable money. And that makes me sad.

Ohh, and I'm going to all sorts of conventions, sci-fi, alt, and other. I LOVE new experiences.

And dungeons and dragons. And other assorted major geek stuff.

I'm really good at

Talking, especially when I get a good conversation started.

And massages. Funny story that. I'm one of the very few men who worked at a Bath and Body Works (yes, the lotion place), lasted 2 years at the job, and is STRAIGHT! Go fig, eh? Anyway, one of the things they teach you is to do hand massages. Well, I happened to take anatomy and physiology during my employ, and it turns out that all the basic hand and wrist techniques apply elsewhere! (The big secret is that it's all cold reading of the person you're working on! Shh!)

I'm also good at mindplay. In short, I can really get into a (roleplay) character or persona. I'm the kind of guy who has an alternative personality he puts on when he wants to have fun at a party. His name is Thymos.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

Wild hair. No dodging that truck. I cut my super-curly hair down to a near buzz, and it turns out that I have curls growing way down there anyway. I also have a higher pitched voice then most men. This enables me to squeak in most immasculine ways when I'm tickled.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

The Ender's series. Right up until the last book (a very Ender Christmas- roll eyes). The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy- my childhood fantasy, which I still dream about. That probably either created my lust for new and different things or stoked it. The Good Men: a Novel of Heresy- a wonderful book, probably the best you'll find in the bargain bin at Barnes & Noble. It's about three generations long in the life of a 14th century French village where Gnostic priests, "the Good Men" begin preaching and converting, in time bringing the wrath of the Inquisition down on the town.

Music- Qntal, Corvus Corax, Voltaire, and Pat Metheny. All makers of music FAR from what you'll hear on the radio anywhere except the internet. The first two sound like a rock concert circa 1340. Seriously. Voltaire, like his namesake, is a satirist, though he does draw on goth as his primary influence. And he's funny as hell in person. Pat Metheny is experimental Jazz. If you... ::cough:: have "special access" to software which allows you to "preview" music, I highly recommend them.

Movies- Bad ones. I have sadomasochistic fun watching the worst movies ever made with my friends and loved ones. Christmas with the Kranks is a holiday tradition at my house. Goblins 2 ranks right next to Space Balls with number of gags per minute (Guess which one was TRYING to be funny?)

The six things I could never do without

1)Learning- Knowledge is a virtue. Without it, wisdom is platitudes and static.
2)The ability to acquire, expand, and ponder said new information
3)C6H12O6 and its derivatives
4)Dihydrogen monoxide
5)Friends, loyal and true
6)A sense of purpose and potential for the world

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Death, life, the universe, ethics, sex, sexual ethics, God and/or the lack of God, science, and why I can never seem to relax.

Yes, all of the above routinely runs through my head. In roughly that order.

On a typical Friday night I am

Working. Lousy temptation of money...

And fun things too, when I can make them happen.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I love to give massages, especially foot massages. I'm actually quite good at them (Thanks to prostrating myself at the foot [pun intended] of the evil corporation Bath and Body Works).

I have a phobia and hatred of pixies. Not fairies, just pixies. One bit me once. It's a story. I'm happy to tell it.

You should message me if

You love to laugh at slasher flicks, zombie movies, Herc and Xena, Army of Darkness, Red Dwarf, play Munchkin, Magic, or D&D.

If you think wicked thoughts, jokes, or believe that lips are not just for kissing, feet are not just for walking, a brain not just for padding, and sex not just for screwing.

Or if you just want to help me practice my massage technique- I'm lagging in practice and need to get back into the swing of things.
