I am here, there, and everywhere.

My Self-Summary

I am not from around here. I can't decide whether I love the city or the wilderness, but currently, the city is winning out. I am a lover of good drinks and good conversation, especially in tandem. I am content to explore, but I am always glad to come back home. I have a disarming smile that I am learning to use more often. If I like you and you talk to me long enough, you will end up feeling really good about yourself.

What I’m doing with my life

Teaching music to kids of all ages. Beginning to read voraciously again. Yoga. Playing guitar. Learning how much I love to dance. Putting on tails and a stovepipe hat and traveling around selling snake oil out the back of a covered wagon.

I’m really good at

Doing one thing at a time.

The first things people usually notice about me

My height and wingspan.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: I'm huge on short fiction, especially as written by Raymond Carver, Haruki Murakami, Tobias Wolff, Kelly Link, Ray Bradbury, John Haskell and the risque Roald Dahl. Recently loved Slaughterhouse-Five and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.

Movies: Children of Paradise, The Night of the Hunter, The Virgin Spring, Nights of Cabiria, Lawrence of Arabia, Spirited Away, Branded to Kill, Koyaanisqatsi, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, House of Games, Sullivan's Travels, The Nightmare before Christmas, and most recently, Redbelt and Let The Right One In.

Music: All of it, really. Most recently, the serene and enveloping waves of Stars of the Lid, and more of Morton Feldman's brilliant ethers of sound.

Food: Greek, Indian, Thai, Pizza, Danish pastries, Pho, chicken mole, red Swedish Fish, green onion pancake. As an aside, I desperately miss Mexican food in any form.

The six things I could never do without

Family/close friends, iPod, passport, quiet nights, things new and exciting, things old and true.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How to have nostalgia for the future, how to create spaces of mental "newness" (away from any residual thoughts) to widen the funnel for new learning and ideas, how to develop love for doing work independent of the outcome.

On a typical Friday night I am

Sitting in an entirely black room, freebasing cocaine and listening to AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" on repeat.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I thought I was looking for long-term dating, but I now realize that's like trying to look directly at the little floater spots in your vision. If there's a road to long-term dating, it's found through short-term dating.

Also, I got thrown out of the circus for being too tall to fit in the midget car.

You should message me if

You like things, and know why you like those things in particular and not other things.

You are comfortable with yourself/possess high self-esteem.

You want to practice your English, or help me learn some Hebrew.

You want to meet for a quick drink and show me new place in TA.
