My self-summary
Hey everyone. I am looking to meet a girl, who, like me, is a little offbeat.

I enjoy martial arts, music (all kinds), reading, writing, hanging out with friends, and being "that guy" who points out plot holes in movie scripts. Yeah, that's me. Sorry.

I'm a big pop culture fan. From movies to TV shows to video games, I will pull random references out. If you get them - awesome! If not.... well, nobody's perfect.

My favorite people are named George, George, and George. Ask me about it sometime.

Otherwise, I use a Dave Barry page-a-day calendar to keep track of weekdays, since I lost the ability to determine days of the week after a 5-day, 14-project binge my junior year in college.
What I’m doing with my life
I work full-time as a reporter, and I do a little bit of everything. Although I'm primarily a games journalist, I've also been known to write about consumer tech, security, medicine, mammals, and astrophysics. They're all pretty fun.

I've spent the last eight years as a taekwondo student, as well as occasional instructor. I recently got my 2nd Dan, 3rd Level black belt! I read that Austin St. John, the original Red Power Ranger, is also a 2nd Dan black belt in taekwondo. Perhaps a career change is in order?

I do need to get to grad school at some point, so that's in the pipeline. As of right now, writing, taekwondo, and the occasional book or game for pleasure are taking up all my time. You know what? That's A-OK with me.
I’m really good at
Writing - This is the big one. I trained mostly in nonfiction, but you name it, I can probably write it. Linear fiction, genre fiction, postmodern fiction, history, science, medical, dramatic, screenplays - I've tried everything at least once. Just don't ask me about poetry. Poetry and I had an abusive relationship, and I eventually learned to stop going back.

Taekwondo - They say I'm a jumper, but I fancy myself a decent sparring partner as well. I've got a mean ridge-hand, but my side-kicks could use some work (whose couldn't?). My forms are top-notch, and if you need kindling, I can break wood with my hands and feet.

Video games - I've been playing games for two decades now, and I can still kick serious butt at Mega Man, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Half-Life, God of War, or anything in-between. Oh, and the Monkey Island series.

Singing - Classically trained, but I was in an a cappella group as well. I haven't done much of this lately, but I'd like to. I can also accompany myself with a few different instruments. Just not very well.

Chatting it up with other folks - Try me!
The first things people usually notice about me
My doofy hair. When it's not busy Jewfro-ing it up, it defiantly maintains a stupid-looking cowlick.

Some people tell me I move like a robot. I say the jury's still out on that one.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Book-wise, I like to read just about anything. My favorite book is probably Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick, but if I need a book to read, I'll reach for anything by George Orwell, Ernest Hemingway, Cormac McCarthy, or Tim O'Brien. Lately, I've been reading more steampunk, especially the works of Cherie Priest. My nonfiction staples include anything on evolution or astronomy, but I can't resist a good baseball book now and then.

In terms of movies, I go for comedies. I can recite Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Producers (the original), and The Big Lebowski by heart. Mel Brooks is my bread-and-butter, but in terms of newer stuff, I'll watch pretty much anything with Paul Rudd or Jason Segel. For my money, Superman is still the best superhero movie out there, and Midnight in Paris is the best film I've seen in the last ten years, hands-down.

My three true TV loves are The Simpsons, Seinfeld, and Futurama. I can (and do) quote them incessantly, because they've pretty much covered every facet of 21st- (and 30th-) century life. Otherwise, Community, How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, Star Trek (all of them, even Enterprise), Battlestar Galactica, and Doctor Who all occupy fond places in my heart.

I love The Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, and classic rock in general. Folk and metal are also favorites of mine, and believe it or not, there is actually a genre called "folk metal." It is both sublime and ridiculous.

As far as food goes, if it can be eaten, I will eat it. That being said, I especially like sandwiches, Italian, Thai, and Mexican.
The six things I could never do without
- A gaming PC
- The Big Lebowski
- My foreign hat collection
- Hawaiian shirts (they're totally not as outlandish as you think)
- Dogs
- Microsoft Word
I spend a lot of time thinking about
"I believe in sex and death - two experiences that come once in a lifetime."
On a typical Friday night I am
Generally out with my friends at a bar or some other activity. I've been known to hang in now and then, but never without a really good movie to watch or game to play.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I once went swimming in the university president's private pond.
