My Notes edit

My self-summary

Well my name is Janelle and I am twenty three years old. I guess I would describe myself as rather introverted. I'm not particularly shy I just tend to be quiet and more observant. That makes me sound very serious. Which to a certain extent I am. I usually only speak when I actually have something to say. I do rather like to laugh and make others laugh as well. Generally I have a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor but I do have a slapstick, ridiculous side that crops up from time to time. I love to draw and I love to take pictures. I carry a sketch book around with me and like to try and capture passersby. I haunt library book sales and used book stores. The walls of my room are lined with stacks of books. I keep intending to buy books shelves but I think I like the haphazard, always about to tumble stacks.

I drink an absurd amount of coffee but I also love tea. I don't understand the impulse to pour obscene amounts of cream or sugar into either. I don't think I could function through a day of work without at least two cups of coffee.

I'm most passionate about politics and biology. I suppose that's an odd pairing but I've never been more for one than the other. I have always enjoyed picking the world around me apart, and trying to understand how it works. Perhaps more importantly I like to try and figure out why it works that way and not any of the infinite number of alternative ways.

What I'm doing with my life

I sell chemicals to research labs and universities. It's a terribly exciting place to work :) I've currently had to put my education on hold in favor of a good, stable job. I'm at the awkward place in life where my dreams are confronting reality. I would like to be going back to school full-time in the fall.

I'm really good at

being myself i suppose?

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

I would assume the fact that I'm short would be noticed straight away. I wear flip flops a lot. My hair is rather long and curly...it gets unruly at the slightest sign of heat, rain or humidity...I always have my nose in a book.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Is there a way to do this without sounding pretentious?...

Books:(lots): John Steinbeck, Ursula k Leguin, Umberto Eco, Richard Dawkins,Michael Bakunin, Peter Kropotkin, Jose Saramago, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Noam Chomsky, Jared Diamond, Emma Goldman, Murray Bookchin, Dostoevsky, Gregory Grandin, First Contact, The Origin of Species, How Monkeys see the World, Life of Pi, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, E.O Wilson, Stephen J Gould, Naomi Klein, Howard Zinn, Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Borges, Isabelle Allende, Michael Cox, David Eggers...too many really.

Movies: Pans Labyrinth, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, The Corporation, Planet Earth, Closer, Trainspotting, Last Life in the Universe...not a huge movie fan, I usually end up watching documentaries or foreign films.

Music: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, John Lennon, Audioslave, Lacuna Coil, Porcupine Tree, Boston, Grateful Dead

Food: Peanutbutter

The six things I could never do without

in no particular order...1. Caffeine (i prefer coffee or tea) 2. A good book 3. the strong belief that someday i will do something more than work at a call center 4. a place to live near the ocean 5. a pen and paper 6. i haven't found this one yet.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Life. I don't mean that to be flippant. There is so much out there to learn and experience that I get overwhelmed trying to think about one aspect of it all sometimes.

On a typical Friday night I am

Usually with friends or reading. I'm pretty low key.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I'm on okcupid.

You should message me if

you are interesting. if you find me interesting. if you like latin american lit, history or politics. if you're interested in biology, evolution or anything science-nerdy. if you like to read radical social theory, of the anarachist vein would be great.
