I am wildly creative, unexpectedly sincere, and strangely charming.

My Self-Summary

My name is Fred Zeleny. I write, make games, and adventure. You can usually find me on the internet under the name "Fizzbang." I like pie. I guess that covers the essential basics.

If you're doing the Quickmatch thing, here's a few random facts, painstakingly chosen at random. Most of them are true:

* I'm a black-belt, but I've never been in a serious fight. I'd rather talk my way out of them before they start. There's generally less damage to my clothes that way - depending on how the talks go.

* I've been worshipped as a god, and it's not nearly as much fun as everyone assumes. I don't recommend it, unless you get a worship gig that includes a good dental plan.

* I still have all of my wisdom teeth. On a necklace.

* I've been a door-to-door salesman, but I've never run into any farmer's daughters. I've been an art producer, but I've never said, "Hey, baby, I can make you a star!". This either means I'm not sleazy, or that I'm just not trying hard enough.

* I claim to be the luckiest person that I know. Luckily, I haven't met anyone who's trumped me on that.

What I’m doing with my life

Designing, writing, gaming, traveling, adventuring, talking, and finding ever more things to do and ways to do them. And living a wildly entertaining life with good friends while I'm at it!

More specificly, my recent activities have run the gamut from working as a professional game designer, being an art producer for a public arts project, and going on random hikes through unexplored parts of a city or more rural wildernesses. Sometimes all three at the same time.

I’m really good at

Game design, martial arts, animation, sketching, writing, massage, talking, listening, playing all sorts of games, making people laugh, and a surprising number of other things.

The first things people usually notice about me

Once upon a time, it was my hair, which reached down to my hips. But that was before a charity event involving clippers, friends, and a surprising amount of alcohol. Now my hair is back in the mid-to-shoulder-length range, for the first time since I was in grade-school. It's coming back, despite me taking the opportunity to try new and interesting things with dyes.

The last thing people usually notice about me is the fact that I always wear mismatched socks. I used to have all sorts of artistic and counter-traditional reasons why, but nowadays, I do it mostly because I like seeing how long it takes someone to realize it.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

In general: I have a deep love for any piece of creative work that pushes the boundaries of its medium. Pieces like Penn Jillette's "Sock", either the book or movie of "Fight Club", even in newer media like games (such as Alternate Reality Games or meta-games like SF0) can leave me all a-twitter and teeming with new ideas and possibilities. Fourth walls were made to be broken.

Books: Alice in Wonderland, most things by Terry Pratchett, Neal Stephenson, and other books where reality isn't quite what it seems.

Movies: Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Big Fish, My Neighbor Totoro, I lot of strange things, from goth swing music (Lee Press-On and the Nails), to Siberian surf-rock (Red Elvises), to remixed video game music (http://www.ocremix.org). If it combines two or more strange elements that don't normally get along, I probably like it.

Foods: I've got a fondness for more savory flavours over simple sweetness: I enjoy a washed apple over a candied one, and I'm more likely to drool over a well-prepared garlic salmon steak or spicy malai kofta than I am to go crazy over super chocolate sugar bombs. But I'm not insane: Only a madman would dislike Pie.

The six things I could never do without

A sketchbook and pencil: My analog palmtop, it's great for making impromptu art or stories when the mood strikes me.

My computer: Like a sketchbook and pencil, but moreso. And it provides email and web access, so I can communicate with more people!

Friends: Old or new, from any part of the world and any set of mind, it's great to connect with people and get to know them. Always another viewpoint to understand, and usually some damned fine stories to share. And even better ones to be made with them!

My luck: Never leave home without it! A little bit of luck makes everything work out better.

My optimism: For when the luck isn't quite working, this helps keep me going until it kicks in again.

And, of course, my creativity: Without it, everything would be so dull. And if there's one thing I dislike, it's evil, trained cyber-tigers that shoot sarin gas from their ears. But if there are two things I dislike, the second one has to be uncreative people who are always complaining about being bored.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

A dangerous breadth of topics, with occasional deeper spikes of thought around topics of art, storytelling, spirituality, game design, balance, comedy, thought, meta-thought, and meta-meta-thought (time and recursion permitting).

On a typical Friday night I am

Hanging with friends, whether it's at a club with much drinking and dancing, or at home with much playing and partying. Consistent weekly plans are for suckers!

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I don't generally worry about the whole "Too Much Information" thing. Also, I'm not circumcised.

You should message me if

. . . you like amusing conversation.

. . . you're interested in discussing any of the above interests. Or any combinations thereof.

. . . you're a font of creativity and looking for another.

. . . you randomly feel like it. Who needs a reason?
