My self-summary
The film Amelie showed me the most concise way to describe a person:

I like; Singing in the car, building a fire, cooking over an open flame, the rare occasions where I can relax with a book, mutually awkward moments, emphatic embraces, singing in the car, getting just the right amount of air on my mountain bike, shifting into third gear with the top down, and the satisfaction that come from finishing home improvement projects.

I dislike cellophane, arrogance, careless drivers, and noisy eating. It's a bizarre compulsion of mine.

I'm always up for new hobbies. Lately it's been a lot of biking and Ultimate Frisbee and road trips. Though in the past few years I've spent a fair amount of time scuba diving, kite surfing and sailing. I've also been known to dabble in yoga, trapeze, rock climbing and nude bicycle rides.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm an engineer, and I love it. It took me years, but I finally found a job I really like and it feels so good to not have an eye on the clock all day waiting for quitting time. I'm currently studying for the GRE to go back and finish my MS and/or MBA.

The rest of my life is still pretty open ended, but I hope to at some point visit every continent on the earth (4 down so far), and at least briefly live on a sailboat and live in a foreign country.
I’m really good at
Following tangents, Taking things apart, Straddling the line between awake and asleep, Listening, Driving, Drawing, Giving back rubs, Receiving back rubs, relishing in awkward situations.

I'm also really good at getting lost. It happens a lot, and I usually end up somewhere better than I intended. I enjoy driving more than most destinations, so I rarely mind being lost.
The first things people usually notice about me
You know, I really don't. What did you notice?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I really love reading on a wide variety of subjects but my favorite authors are John Varley, William Gibson, Max Brooks, and Neal Stephenson which might give away that I have a distinct preference for science fiction, but lately the only thing I'm reading is my GRE prep book.

The best movie I've seen recently is Birdman. My favorite movie is probably Fight Club (Chuck agrees with me that it was better than the book) but every St. Patrick's Day I like to watch Boondock Saints again. I also really loved Stranger than Fiction. I geek out over cheezy Marvel super hero movies.

On Netflix I watch almost exclusively comedies. If I'm going to indulge in mindless entertainment, I better be laughing. I just finished BoJack Horseman and 30 Rock. In the past some of my favorites were: House, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Gilmore Girls (I won't qualify that, it was a well written show), Scrubs, Malcolm in the Middle, Community, Parks and Recreation and Archer.

I love music, but I've never found it to be much of a deal maker or breaker for a relationship, so I'll spare you the list of favorite bands. I'm always happy to listen to 90's pop/rock/alt, geeky/alternative hip-hop, punk, ska, swing, or electronica. I love classical but I hate the harpsichord. I'm a bit of an audiophile, I'm the kind of guy who hears a new song and immediately starts thinking about how to tweak the eq to make it sound a little better. I'm always tinkering with different audio gear.

I love trying new foods, with the exception of fried grub. Well, I did love the experience of trying it, but one was enough. Forever. On a more mundane level, I love mexican, atypical pizzas, sushi, indian and thai, though I'm kinda picky about those last two.
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why strangers are so afraid to make eye contact. Why everyone makes such a big deal about watching sportsball, but nobody ever wants to go play a pickup game. Why we never went back to the moon.
On a typical Friday night I am
Riding my motorcycle, I just bought it!
UPDATE:
Scratch that, now I'm fixing my motorcycle...
UPDATE:
...Anyone want to buy a motorcycle? It's only lightly crashed.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
To quote Cosmo Kramer, "I'm out there Jerry and I'm loving every minute of it!". Actually, I really don't keep many secrets. Go ahead, ask.
You should message me if
You enjoy intellectual intercourse and not-so-subtle Alanis Morisette references. Or if you're willing to forgive the capitalization errors I keep finding in my profile.
