I am slightly neurotic, genuine, and swell.

My Self-Summary

First off I guess I should state my intentions being on a site like this. While I would love to date, my real immediate focus is on finding friends. In the last year and a half I've had my two best friends leave the state, and while I'm happy for them and the fact that whenever I decide to visit Denver or Austin I have a free place to crash it doesn't really help my social life at home.

Um, I'm not a particularly suave guy. I usually say what I mean and I appreciate straight-talk from others. As far as what I look for romantically in a person well recently it's been pretty simple. I want someone who is passionate about something. It seems the last few people I've dated didn't really have any interests or passions about anything. I almost don't even really care what it is, if we have it in common that's even better. Just so long as it's something you enjoy that you can share and allow me to do the same with the things I love. I've not quite found that.

What I’m doing with my life

Currently at JCCC finishing up a basic associate's degree. After that, well, I've got a few ideas.. I've been trying to develop artistically in music, painting and photography but it's kind of been awkward getting back into creating instead of just appreciating. It's more difficult than it sounds.

I’m really good at

Thinking about stuff I wish I was better at. I'm big on self-improvement. I've been slacking as of late and it bugs me. I've always felt strongly that people should always be just as willing to critique themselves just as much if not more than they do others. This is probably why I handle criticism pretty well as long as it's not malicious. I'm also a pretty great listener, which sounds unbelievably cliche but I've always tried to lend and ear to anyone who trusted in me enough to share their woes.

The first things people usually notice about me

This one is kind of tricky. My good friends haven't really shared this bit of trivia with me and the rest well, can they really be trusted?

If I had to pick something, I supposed I would pick the way I dress? It seems that's what I get the most comments about. I keep stuff pretty simple. Usual attire consists of a t-shirt, dress pants/slacks and dress shoes. Not very exciting I know but what can you do?

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

To make one large overarching statement, the stuff I like is pretty much radical if slightly obscure but that's okay because I like to share these things with people.

I've been really bad about reading traditional fiction/literature lately. I find I lack the motivation even though I have books upon unfinished books piling up on my shelves, one day soon though! At the moment nothing sounds as appealing as cracking open a comic book after work/class.

To give specifics I'm a big fan of: Vonnegut, Cormac McCarthy, John Steinbeck, George Orwell, Alan Moore, Brian K. Vaughan, Warren Ellis, Geoff Johns, and Grant Morrison.

For movies I don't really have any prerequisites. I mean I COULD say something like "as long as it's well-done" but that's rather subjective. So time for more examples! Any films by Ingmar Bergman, Akira Kurosawa, Billy Wilder, Woody Allen, Terrence Mallick, Wes Anderson, David Lynch, Charlie Chaplin, or Paul Thomas Anderson.

I won't say "anything" or "everything" cause those seem to be sort of stock answers. Which is totally cool for some people but if I say that and we happen to actually have stuff in common won't I just be depraving you of that moment when you get to this portion of the page and go "wow cool, there's something I have in common with this person!". I love when that happens.

So recently artists I've enjoyed would be: Arvo Part, The Antlers, Bat For Lashes, The Flaming Lips, Low, Sunn O))), Earth, The Knife, Neurosis, Cocteau Twins, Bjork, The Bloody Beetroots, Little Boots, Kanye West, and Underworld, The Flaming Lips, Daft Punk, Slowdive, Guided By Voices.

Genres include: House (esp. French), Noise, Drone, Folk, Hip-Hop, Dubstep, Instumental/"Post-Rock", Classical (esp. Minimalist).

Saw on a friend's profile that had a listing of visual artists and I really like that idea so I'm stealing it. Favorites include: Egon Schiele, Alphonse Mucha, Theodor Kittelsen, Maurice Sendak, Gustave Dore, Gustav Klimt, Wassily Kandinsky, Virginia Frances Sterret, Eric Carle, Louis Wain, JH William III, Daniel Clowes, Richard Scarry, and Charles Burns.

I'm not really picky about food. Although I could eat chicken fried rice every day of my life. Especially from Bo Ling's. Stuff is tasty.

On a typical Friday night I am

Working, going to a show, working on music or watching a film.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I feel really really bad for telemarketers. I just can't be mean to them.

You should message me if

This is kind of a stupid area. Message me if you feel compelled to. I'm a pretty approachable guy and I'll talk to just about anyone, as long as you're not spewing rhetoric of any kind we should get along like peaches & herb... Just kidding, that would probably not be a good thing. I think there were like 5 or 6 different "Peaches". Herb must have been quite a bastard...
