My self-summary
I have a dream of finding my people. I want experiences that I would want to live twice or over and over. I enjoy most folks, but I am especially awesome around the right sort of person. Feist calls some people her amplifiers. This is exactly right.

I am a folk psychologist, scientist, singer, writer, filmmaker, critic, and philosopher which means I love them but don't take them seriously.

I want to learn how people work. I want to learn how to dance. I want to be in that totally comfortable place with someone. I want to laugh my fucking face off.
What I’m doing with my life
I work full-time editing video. However, I want to work a job with my values. I want to help people. I want to go back to school to be a psychotherapist. People are interesting to me. I'm curious about them.

For fun, I am using my video skills to help dogs find homes. I'm restoring vintage speakers. I want to build a vocal isolation booth so I can play as loud as I want at 4am, when the best ideas come. I don't want to become any kind of figure on a scene. I play guitar for stress relief. My secret fantasy is to make home-brewed album after album and have them discovered and cherished after I die.
I’m really good at
pretending I know why you are doing that thing you are doing
listening (most of the time)
composing shots
photoshop (Not a good thing to say on a dating site but…)
picking good movies
TVP Tacos
Chocolate Chip Cookies
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably eyes and smile. Maybe they are laughing at something I said.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I started this answer with lists of things, but it felt limiting. Instead, here is what I what I get out of them.

Books: When I read fiction I like more than one layer of meaning. I love it when someone builds a character artfully choosing details that opens great tracts in their past. I love books that show me what I'm like. I love it when authors write to prefigure their fantasies.

I like a good non-fiction deep dive. I love it when dedicated folks show me how arbitrary values can be and light up their roots. I like it when folks recognize values that aren't working and suggest alternatives.

Movies: I went to film school and learned to love original voices. I love it when movies are made for the screen and not adapted from literature or theater. They are different mediums and all do things the others don't. Love arts for what they are. Don't force film and television to be more like its siblings.

A good film marries its technique and its ideas in generative ways.

TV: I don't trust shows that are made for tons of money. The more I worked in TV, the more convinced I became that it is the fancy hat on a new kind of soft facism. Networks you'd think would be competitors produce content for one another. There are many branches, only one trunk.

Dos Equis Guy:
I don't normally watch television, but when I do it is with an enormous amount of skepticism.

As a result, I end up watching independent media, shows from other countries, and a few guilty pleasures. I am more than willing to try out one of your shows, but that is all I will promise.

Jeff Buckley, Animal Collective, Neutral Milk Hotel, Prince, The Beach Boys, Leonard Cohen, Belle and Sebastian, Of Montreal, Mountain Goats, The Beatles, Tom Waits, Chris Whitley, Talking Heads, The Royal Trux, Kings of Convenience, Paul Simon, Nine Inch Nails

Homemade things, Cookies, Middle Eastern/Mediterranean, Mexican, Thai, Indian, Ethiopian, really any culture with beans
The six things I could never do without
My Dingo
My Friends
My Computer
My Guitar
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What others feel. I love listening to folks and their stories and then wondering about what goes on inside of them.

The right partner. I would love some sex too, but I'm looking for a girl that asks, "Now let me see if I understand you" rather than "You're wrong because" during fights.

The importance of sensitivity.

I spend a lot of time fantasizing: sometimes simulating real situations. Sometimes I'm playing pirates.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with a couple friends, drinking a couple beers, playing some music, scheming and planning towards my (benign) ends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I still prefer cartoons to real shows.
