My self-summary
The Cliffs Notes: artistic/musical gamer geek with an iconoclastic streak and single father seeks similarly nerdy lady for adventure times.

I'm not shy about being a geek. It's probably my most defining characteristic. However, don't think for a minute that this means I'm a timid person. I'm something of a firebrand, trying to rouse those around me from their ruts. I try not to see the world and its people as they are, but rather as they could be.

The moral of the story; life is too short to be boring or petty.
What I’m doing with my life
In life: Spending as much time as possible with my daughter. She's turning into a little movie geek, even going so far as to say she wants to work at Pixar when she grows up. (Note: don't worry, I'm not looking for a new mom for her. She has a mom. A good one. Just not good for me.)

In job: I work in a machine shop to pay the bills. Whoop-de-doo. But for real, I am a musician. A lyricist, really. A rapper, if you want to get technical. My work tends toward the nerdy side; I suppose you could call it nerdcore. I've started playing gigs all around the north shore, and even had a show up in Portland!

In leisure: I'm a huge movie geek, although I've watched way too much MST3K, and as such I will frequently riff on whatever I watch, whether it's a good movie or not (occasionally to the dismay of those watching with me). I consider myself a gamer, too, but I'm more into board, card, and roleplaying games than video games. I like a good video game, too, but given the option, I'll pick tabletop any day.
I’m really good at
Playing as the zombies in Last Night On Earth.
Analyzing cinematic subtext.
I would say "dropping dope rhymes" here, but I think that's up to you whether or not I'm any good at that.
The first things people usually notice about me
"You're tall!" and "What's with the tape on the glasses?" are what usually come out first.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books-- The usual geek-favorite authors; Douglas Adams, H.P. Lovecraft, Isaac Asimov, Bruce Campbell. As for non-fiction, I love Anthony Bourdain, Hunter S. Thompson, and Harvey Pekar. I'm a big comic book fan, too, and I wish Alan Moore, Warren Ellis, and Brian K. Vaughn would write more books. V For Vendetta, Transmetropolitan, and Allan Heinberg's Young Avengers are some all-time faves (although Children's Crusade was shit), but the only one I really follow religiously right now is Saga.

Movies-- Yeesh. I don't so much watch movies as I rely on them for sustenance. Anything made by Guillermo del Toro, Terry Gilliam, Michel Gondry, or the Coen Brothers are must-sees for me. I like Guy Ritchie a lot when he's not pandering to American audiences (translation: Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels > Snatch), and John Woo when he's allowed to whole-heartedly do his thing; if you can get your hands on the original, 5-hour-long Chinese version of Red Cliff, watch it (or just ask me, since I have it). I've also recently learned of the genius that was Charlie Chaplin.
Yeah. I love movies.

Shows-- I love British television. I would move to England for the TV. Doctor Who, Torchwood, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, The IT Crowd, Being Human... it's all brilliant. There isn't a lot of domestic stuff that I watch that's still on the air. I dig Firefly, Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Tick in all of his incarnations, and various Star Treks. Once Upon a Time is my big guilty pleasure right now. Do web shows count? I suppose I should put Wil Wheaton's Tabletop, Nostalgia Critic, and Epic Rap Battles of History in this category.

Music-- I listen to nerdcore/underground/old school hip-hop (with a few modern mainstream guilty pleasures), 2nd- and 3rd-wave ska, 8-bit/chiptune, quirky/funny pop/rock... seriously, I can, will, and love to talk about music for hours; if you want details, just ask.
All-time faves: Tom Waits, Jurassic 5, Sage Francis, Eels
Recent faves: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (yeah, I got sucked in), Anamanaguchi, MF Doom.

Food-- Cajun will always be my first culinary love. Sushi comes a very close second, though. I'm also a fan of Mexican, German, and British pub grub (if you've never had a Scotch Egg, you don't know what you're missing). I will eat anything that comes out of the ocean.
The six things I could never do without
Eschewing the obvious (friends, family, internet, etc.)...
-music (I know, everyone says that...)
-good coffee (if the best part of waking up is the Folgers in your cup, you may have depression.)
-a notebook
-a nice cafe or pub where I can relax and write
-breakfast foods
-craft beer
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Cheese and lobster; like who was the first person to say "I am so damn hungry, I am going to eat this chunk of curdled milk/this bug I found in the ocean."
On a typical Friday night I am
Friday is frequently game night, but barring that, I try to find a show that can capture my attention, or at least a bar that ISN'T playing a sporting event on the TVs there.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a pretty open book, so I'm gonna hit you scattershot with "private" stuff.
-I hate baseball. Other professional sports I can sort of ignore like background noise, but baseball kills me. (Sorry, Red Sox gals)
-The death of Harvey Pekar is one of the great tragedies in my life.
-I think "A Good Man Goes To War" is a better Doctor Who episode than "Blink".
-I wear tape on my glasses mostly because that's how they're held together, but I also kinda like the way it looks.
-I enjoy professional wrestling in concept. The idea of people putting on this theatrical play-fight and coming up with really flashy moves and personalities is a really cool idea; sadly, in execution, it's pretty lame.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 24–32
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, short-term dating, activity partners, casual sex
You should message me if
Brutal honesty time: I'm not really looking for anything seriously romantic right now. Between my daughter and my music, I don't have much energy left to devote to a long-term relationship; I've used the expression "married to the music" with not all that much exaggeration. I am, however, always looking for new friends. I'd be open to friends with benefits, but there has to be that friendly connection first and foremost. Translation: I am NOT looking for just a hook-up. We need to be able to do activities besides the horizontal mambo.

Also, I feel like "activity partners" should be the first on the list. Hit me up if any of the following sound like fun:
-watching old Charlie Chaplin movies
-wandering the streets of Greater Boston looking for good street art
-playing a board game, card game, or pencil-and-paper role-playing game
-going to a beer tasting or wine pairing
-listening to and casually analyzing hip-hop lyrics
