I am so, beyond, and thunderdome.

My Self-Summary

Oh, hello!

I like to dance, all right? Bonus points to you if you'd be willing to sign up for salsa lessons with me. I also like to bake, a lot, so even MORE points if you're up to being my taste guinea pig. I have an extensive collection of aprons that I've made myself, and I do my best to not keep them merely as decoration on the coat rack in my kitchen. Occasionally I wish that I had gone to trade school to become a carpenter, as the idea of building my own cozy little home and then making everything else with my own hands as well is really very appealing. I am currently fascinated with houseboats.

What I’m doing with my life

Graduate school! One can find me in a lab on campus quite often - and no, my work is not related to a so-called "hard" science.

Other than that, I'm re-introducing myself to the finer points of piano playing. It has been a while.

I’m really good at

Loquacity, holding doors open for people and being punctual.

The first things people usually notice about me

"My, what a tall girl you are!"

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books. Goodness. I'm going to list authors, is that all right with you? Here: Ray Bradbury, Flannery O'Connor, Kurt Vonnegut, Miranda July, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Douglas Adams, Shirley Jackson, Stendhal, Lewis Carroll, Alexandr Solzhenitsyn, Neil Gaiman, Charles Dickens, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, William Faulkner, Irvine Welsh, Angela Carter, James Baldwin, Aldous Huxley, William Shakespeare, J.R.R. Tolkien, Ian McEwan, Truman Capote, Carson McCullers (Southern Gothic thrills me to no end, really), Laurence Sterne, Roald Dahl, Jules Verne, Vladimir Nabokov. Etc etc etc.

Movies - that's just as extensive. I'm not really picky when it comes to movies, and I'll enjoy most of what I find myself watching. I am never, ever disappointed by post-apocalyptic/dystopian films, no matter how poorly they may have been made. I quite like musicals as well. Notables? Duel, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Funny Face, Children of Men, Cinema Paradiso, Hook, Lost Boys, This Is Spinal Tap, The Life Aquatic, Mars Attacks, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, The Warriors, Big Fish, Dune.

Music - Sigh. I am a HUGE fan of the blues. Robert Wilkins, Bessie Smith, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Frank Stokes. Motown, too - The Marvelettes, Stevie Wonder, The Spinners, The Supremes, The Temptations, Martha and the Vandellas. After that - Belle and Sebastian, Of Montreal, Bon Iver, Dismemberment Plan, Metric, Mirah, Portishead, Caribou, Black Heart Procession. Perhaps you get the idea by now.
*****!!!!! Ten billion extra bonus points if you adore and enjoy singing along to The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society. I've flirted with the thought of making this a prerequisite for anything beyond basic acquaintanceship, but upon further thought have decided that even that is a bit much.

Food - I will eat anything, save for cooked carrots and beets.

The six things I could never do without

A pen, some paper, my feline, a sturdy bike, fresh flowers in the kitchen and a down comforter. This list is not definitive, mind you.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The universe! Recipes! Places I want to visit, people I want to see. Why it is that I loathe the phrase "it is what it is". I suppose the answer might lie in the very phrase that I just condemned, and that makes me hate it more.

On a typical Friday night I am

Doing this or that or the other.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I may seem lithe and graceful as I sweep across flat surfaces, but once it gets to going up stairs...I trip going up way more often than anyone over the age of 5 should. Enough to warrant me telling random strangers this over the internet.

You should message me if

Listen all! This is the truth of it. Fighting leads to killing, and killing gets to warring. And that was damn near the death of us all. Look at us now! Busted up, and everyone talking about hard rain! But we've learned, by the dust of them all... Bartertown learned. Now, when men get to fighting, it happens here! And it finishes here! Two men enter; one man leaves. (Got that?)

Really - if the idea of a weekend spent watching a stack of movies whilst playing Scrabble and reading out loud alternately to one another doesn't horrify you, I do think you "should message me".
