My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Positive; happy; passionate; NPR fan; huge music fan with great taste; enjoy watching a good movie as much as anything, and am more forgiving of a bad movie than I am of bad music; love great food and wine, especially a great cabernet; love to read (almost exclusively non-fiction); somewhat atypical for a male as I am not a particularly big sports fan (although I do love college basketball, and enjoy baseball to some degree, but that's pretty much it as far as sports ... not a hater, just could mostly care less); think that the immense success of McDonald's and Walmart speaks very negatively about the state of this country ..... I tend to have fairly strong ADD traits at times .... well, it's not that I'm ADD, it's just that .... oh look, a squirrel ....... to be completed later when i have more time to deal with it.

I am happy, considerate, and mostly easy going.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
enjoying it, and trying to be a good person, and hopefully making a difference thru example (being kind, polite, and patient .... well, as long as people let me, I am very nice, but if pushed I can snap back in a second ... for example, trying to make telemarketers wish they had not called my number), being critical of customer service in America ... or what USED to be customer service.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
music trivia, making great CD mixes, getting along with a pretty wide array of different kind of folks, both listening and pontificating, being late because I often have little to no concept of time as I tend to very much live in the moment ... to be continued .......
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Some comment that I often have a smile on my face.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I read almost exclusively nonfiction when it comes to books, and mostly on music and film. I read about many other subjects too, but those are largely thru newspapers, magazines and on line sites.

I love a wide variety of music, which could largely falls under the category of american roots based music .... rock (Beatles, Allman Bros., Bruce, anything from Jack White, Jayhawks, Little Feat, Stones, Black Keys, Leon Russell, Boz Scaggs, Dr. John, Bonnie Raitt, et. al.), traditional R&B (James Brown, Ray Charles, Etta James, Aretha, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Al Green, Ruth Brown, Arthur Alexander, James Hunter, Dinah Washington, Four Tops, Otis, et. al.), traditional country (Patsy Cline, Dwight Yoakam, Willie Nelson, Emmylou, Hank Williams, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Ernest Tubb, Buck Owens, Asleep At The Wheel, Loretta, and Americana, so to speak (Steve Earle, Joe Ely, Gram Parsons, Buddy Miller, Lucinda Williams, John Prine, John Hiatt, Delbert McClinton, Kacey Chambers, et. al.), jazz (Duke, Miles, Basie, Coltrane, Monk, Brubeck, Louis Prima, Big Joe Turner, et. al.), standards (Frank, Tony, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, Julie London, MIlls Bros., etc.), and other genre defying artists such as Van Morrison, Raul Malo, Al Anderson, Doug Sahm, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello,... and many, many more, but am fairly open to most "good" music (and i do have excellent taste in music). I'm not into much mainstream music that you might hear on almost any mainstream commercial radio station. I consider that to be manufactured lowest common denominator pablum, with a few exceptions.

I am definitely a movie lover with, again, a wide range of interests, but my favorites are spy, caper and thriller films. Thriller, as in Hitchcock,, not like horror films, which I do not care for. Drama, comedies, documentaries are all fine. Some faves that come to mind are Harold & Maude, Being There, Manchurian Candidate (original one), The Italian Job (original one), The Graduate, It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, Annie Hall, Hopscotch, What's Up, Doc?, films of Hitchcock, Woody Allen, Billy Wilder and "Tom Dowd and the Language of Music" AND "Before the Music Dies" are probably the best two music docs I've seen .... and MANY more.

Not a big TV watcher .... mostly PBS, documentaries, movies on TV, college basketball, MSNBC, CNBC, real & honest news (which would eliminate unfair and imbalanced Fox News) .... not too many "regular" series type shows, but really do like Burn Notice and 30 Rock, and think Frasier is about as well written sitcom as there has even been ... dislike almost all reality shows (except the few that are intelligent but could possibly be considered in the big picture as a reality show, like maybe antiques roadshow, some food and travel shows, history detectives, etc.).

Food and wine very important, and I love most good food. Some would call me a foodie. Also love good wine, but am not a wine snob (well, depending on your perspective of that). Not particularly into sushi or Indian food (don't hate 'em, just wouldn't choose them), but otherwise pretty open. I do try to eat fairly healthy, and almost never eat fast food (the very occasional Chick-fil-A would be an occasional exception), and rarely fried foods (fries and calamari would be the occasional exceptions for that)
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
*good food & red wine & coffee
*my camera
*let's just call #6 a revolving or floating position that changes from time to time.
(all of these are, of course, exclusive of things like family, friends, and various necessities of life)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
too much time actually thinking about these answers.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
what's a "typical" Friday? Could be anything from dinner out, dinner in, a movie out, a movie in, live music, wine tasting, etc. Actually I far prefer to spend weekend nights (Fr, Sa, or Su) at home, primarily because I go out a lot during the week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
if it were private, why would I talk about it here.

you're so inclined and think we'd have something to talk about. Also if you are not a Republican (if so we would not have enough in common, even though I am not a Democrat, and if you're a Tea Party person and/or a fan or supporter of Sarah Palin, we definitely would not have much of ANYTHING in common as I value intelligence and if you like Sarah, I cannot imagine that you have much of a brain .... sorry, just trying to be honest here).
