Authors: Judith Butler, Michel Foucault, Michael Warner (bonus points if you know what I'm talking about when I say "the Warner-Sullivan debate"), JRR Tolkien, Dan Simmons, Octavia Butler, Samuel Delany
Movies: If it's sci-fi and part of the universe of geekery, I probably like it. But since I love lists, here we go:
* Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
The best of the Star Trek movies, hands down. It's the standard by which pretty much every other Trek movie is measured.
* Man of Steel
The best Superman movie out there. It is now the standard by which I measure other superhero/comic book movies. Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder are the definitive Superman and Lois Lane, but Henry Cavill and Amy Adams are an excellent update and addition to the Superman mythos.
* The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
I can't say much here except that these movies are so awesome, I saw them 12 times. Apiece. In the theater.
* Brokeback Mountain
I wish I knew how to quit you!
* Showgirls (it's awesomely BAD)
It's so bad it's good.
* The original Star Wars Trilogy
Television: Big Bang Theory, The First 48, Fringe, Law & Order (the original!), Star Trek...except "Enterprise." That was horrible. Babylon 5, Community, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, The Real Housewives of Atlanta (shut up!), and the Amazing Race.
Oh! I forgot about Arrested Development. That was a show that went before its time. Interestingly enough, it paved the way for a show like Modern Family. Go figure.
And Mad Men. Seriously. I love that show. And The Good Wife. And Scandal. Yes, it's cheesy, but I love it nonetheless.
Music: Old-school R&B/pop, full stop. Especially Anita Baker. Also, give me old-school Luther, Whitney (R.I.P), Janet Jackson, Stephanie Mills, Mariah Carey (before 1996)...the list could go on.
Food: I'm a meat-and-three kinda guy. I think if I had to have one last meal, it'd be a basic Thanksgiving meal--I love turkey, dressing, collard greens, sweet cornbread, mashed potatoes...basically comfort food. I also have a horrible sweet tooth--give me ice cream and/or oatmeal raisin cookies...and Pepsi.
Also, isn't this kind of a bad question to put on the front page of a profile? I mean, you've got two types who'd answer this question: sarcastic types like me who'll deconstruct the question, and people who are into oversharing.
