I am thoughtful, sardonic, and easygoing.
My Self-Summary
The sense of humour alternates between cutting-edge sarcasm and
just dumb dorkiness. The manner is pretty laid-back and
non-judgemental. The job is mostly computer-related (but see
below...). The hobbies are photography, urban exploration, gaming,
painting, sketching, and other geeky activities... although I
haven't painted or sketched for a while so I'm not sure they
count...
I exercise somewhat but probably insufficiently (jogging, some
P90x, some swimming and biking and rollerblading...) , and on the
weekends I'm going to brunch or drinks with friends on Queen
Street, indy music concerts, and, er, so on. I also like
travel.
I am also somewhat tall.
What I’m doing with my life
Occasionally, I work with my laptop out by a tree in High Park or
the Toronto Islands.
I'm taking a break from a corporate software career to spend some
time pursuing my own more creative stuff for a while. It felt like
something I had to do. I'm not sure whether this path is leading
somewhere, or whether I'll head back to a day job after burning
through enough money and doing some travelling.
So, at this point, I'm mostly experimenting in software and
photography. Given enough time, something ambitious will hopefully
emerge. Maybe it'll even pay the rent...
I'm also part of Rotaract, a charitable organization, but it's
mostly about friends, I'm not hard-core about it.
I’m really good at
Lots of things (for an undefined amount of "really good")
The first things people usually notice about me
I seem to get a lot of comments about tall, glasses, and
left-handedness. Also recently got "you remind me of Michael Cera"
which I'll take as a complement...
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
BOOKS: Recently I've liked Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, Haruki
Murakami, Dave Eggers, Anne Rice... although to be honest fiction
doesn't grab me as much as it used to, I tend to devour non-fiction
a lot more now, on topics like society, history, design, science:
The Omnivor's Dilemna, The World is Flat, About Face, Here Comes
Everybody, The World Without Us, The Assault on Reason, The Wisdom
of Crowds, A Short History Progress, The Selfish Gene
MOVIES: Movies that fit my particular flavour of "good" include...
Star Wars (the old ones of course), Koyaanisqatsi, Life of Brian,
Run Lola Run, Maverick, Sneakers, Toy Story 2, Waking Life,
Ratatouille. I also seem like to maligned sequels more than their
predecessors (the 2nd Batman, the 2nd Matrix, the 3rd Pirates of
the Carribean...). Movies I've enjoyed this year include Man on
Wire, Religulous, Frost Nixon, Synecdoche New York
Also, recently... G.I. Joe was a great movie (well, maybe not
"great" but my inner 10-year-old enjoyed the hell out of it).
Transformers was terrible. I'm not sure what that says, but read
from that what you will.
MUSIC: Bands in my collection include... Franz Ferdinand, Ladytron,
New Pornographers, Berlioz, Beethoven, Assemblage 23, ATB, The
Beatles, Bloc Party, Cheb Mami, Coldplay, LCD Soundsystem, The
Lonely Island, Metric, Moby, Muse, DJ Champion et ses G-Strings,
Art Brut, Neko Case, Orchestra Baobab, Spice Girls, The Strokes,
Art Brut, Cansei de ser Sexy, Cake, Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, The
Editors, Elvis' gospel music, Flight of the Concords, Ella
Fitzgerald, Fischerspooner. Er, etc.
I like to think I've got a fairly broad musical taste, although
lately I've gotten perhaps more lazy and find myself enjoying
miscellaneous compilations of what I affectionately call "dance
crap."
FOOD: Sushi... Thai... Indian (mmmm butter chicken)... Italian...
French.... and, of course, a really good steak.
The six things I could never do without
Friends. The interwebs. The Daily Show. Good, convenient food (I
like 'slow food' but have difficulty making it a lifestyle...).
Long walks and/or jogs. Travel.
(I could probably do without most of those. In fact, I have at one
time or another been without most of them. And, now that I think
about, I've been kinda skipping the Daily Show lately since those
insane Fox News clips get pretty aggravating. So you can replace
some of those with food, water, oxygen, ozone, that sort of
thing...)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
A lot of stuff. Most of which just kind of rattles around in there
without ever seeing the light of day.
Possibly that's what Twitter is for.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually enjoying some normalcy with my friends. Saturdays may or
may not be more adventurous...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Sometimes I wonder if I should be getting a bit freaked out about
how old I've apparently become.
I mean, I don't have any "not a kid anymore"-type issues... but a
lot of people around me have reached a stage where dating is
increasingly goal-driven, where the plan is to get married and have
kids after dating a year. Whereas I'm still big on the idea that
long term relationships and marriage are what happens when someone
you're dating becomes your best friend... and I'm still more than
happy to let the journey to that destination takes as long as it
needs to, and hopefully have some fun and meet some good people
along the way...
So, basically, I'm not really on any sort of deadline. Hmmm. Not
sure if any of that is helpful, but there ya go...
You should message me if
You want to give me vast quantities of money and are ridiculously
cute and/or hot.
Or dorky. Dorky's good too.
Or any other valid reason. If you're up for going for a coffee or
wandering around taking pictures somewhere, that's a plus.
