My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am independent, intellectually curious, fair-minded, loyal. Looking for one woman with a blend of qualities--artistic, patient, someone with whom to share my feelings, and spend the final chapter of my life with. I am not looking for my twin. Most people think I look younger than I really am. I take care of my body. Truth, honesty, equality, balanced with sensitivity and compassion are my mantras. I appreciate emotional warmth and physical affection, openness, and logic of purpose. I think I am pretty flexible and easy to get along with. I can be serious or playful, depending on the situation and whom I am with. A wise man moves according to his circumstances. Looking for a woman who can teach me how to have more fun.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Retired from full time college teaching in Boston last summer. Still doing part time teaching/tutoring and consulting, and volunteer in a health care setting. Thinking about new travel destinations; learning how to cook and eat healthier. Re-thinking the human origin and how and why we got here. One philosopher remarked the concept of efficiency of any process will remain undefined until we know why and how we are here. Learning more about all of the fine arts and meditation. Keeping abreast of politics and global events.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Listening to other people, learning about and from their experiences. Offering support when asked to help put things in perspective. Helping to de-pressurize a friend after a tough week. Tutoring students in chemistry and math, vegetable gardening. Doing minor home repairs and removing stains from fabrics--that involves chemistry, right! Current global events, somewhat of a news hound--wondering what's happening; thinking about the "law of unintended consequences." Taking walks on the beach and hiking in the woods, playing scrabble and backgammon, and tennis (???) and cycling; going to the movies.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My eyes and beard. And my warm hands, so I am told.

The Fugitive (surprised?), A Few Good Men, The Pelican Brief, City Slickers II, Midnight in Paris, The Verdict, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Forest Gump, The Notebook, Fried Green Tomatoes, Avatar, When Harry Met Sally, Doubt; British and American rock and folk from the 60's and 70's; Some country and classical pieces.
Many kinds of food, including seafood and Asian, so long as I know what's in them. Willing to be a line cook but not an executive chef for the right woman. Interested in the role of herbs and spices in maintaining good health. Books: "About Love," "A Fair Society," "The Celestine Prophecy." Enjoy going to the Hayden Planetarium and Omni Theatre, Never been on a Duck Tour.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
my children
music--pretty wide variety, depending on my mood
my friends
morning coffee
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What I can do to help bring out the best in my future "significant
other" so she can be at peace with herself. I also think about the future of my children and how to stay connected to them; how lifestyles and culture have changed as a result of technological advances since the 60's. What will life be like after I'm gone. The balance between intellect and emotion. And what John Coffey said to Paul in "The Green Mile," just before he was executed.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
No two Friday evenings are the same. Relaxing; Going out to eat or to the movies with a friend, or just reading/watching a movie at home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have unloaded most of my baggage, but occasionally need someone to help me unpack a little more.
