My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am independent, intellectually curious, and open-minded. Looking for one woman with a blend of qualities--artistic, patient, someone who can be my co-pilot for the final chapter of my life. I am NOT looking for my twin. Most people think I look younger than I really am. I take care of my mind and body. Truth, honesty, equality, balanced with sensitivity and compassion are my mantras. I appreciate emotional warmth and physical affection. I think I am pretty flexible and easy to get along with. I can be serious or playful, depending on the situation and whom I am with. A wise man moves according to his circumstances.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Retired from full time college teaching in Boston in 2013. Still doing part time teaching and consulting, and volunteering as a surgical liaison at a hospital. Catching up on some reading. Thinking about new travel destinations. Learning to cook and eat healthier. One philosopher remarked the concept of efficiency of any process in life will remain undefined until we know why and how we got here. Another has remarked that if we ever find out, the universe will instantly change, so that the mystery will remain. I think this has already happened at least once. Learning more about the fine arts. Keeping abreast of politics and global events, which prove the law of unintended consequences somewhere almost every week.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Offering support when asked to help put things in perspective. Tutoring students in chemistry, vegetable gardening in summer, outdoor photography. Removing stains from all kinds of fabrics--that involves chemistry, right! A news hound--wondering what's happening; thinking about the "law of unintended consequences." Taking walks on the beach, playing scrabble and tennis, and cycling. Love going to the movies.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My eyes and beard. And my warm hands, so I am told.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

The Fugitive (surprised?), A Few Good Men, The Pelican Brief, City Slickers II, Midnight in Paris, Irrational Man, The Verdict, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Forest Gump, Fried Green Tomatoes, When Harry Met Sally, Doubt; British and American rock and folk from the 60's and 70's; Some country and classical pieces.
Many kinds of food, including seafood and Asian, so long as I know what's in them. Willing to be a line cook but not an executive chef for the right woman. Interested in the role of herbs and spices in maintaining good health. Books: "About Love," "A Fair Society," "The Celestine Prophecy," "Modern Romance," "The Upright Thinkers," and Merchants of Doubt." Enjoy going to the Hayden Planetarium and Omni Theatre, Never been on a Duck Tour but would love to go.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
my children
music--pretty wide variety, depending on my mood
my friends
morning coffee
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What I can do to help bring out the best in my future "significant
other"--YOU! I also think about the future of my children and how to stay connected to them; how lifestyles and culture have changed as a result of technological advances since the 60's. What will life be like after I'm gone. And what John Coffey said to Paul in "The Green Mile," just before he was executed. And what Lt. Gerard said to the RIchard Kimble after he took his handcuffs off in the police car.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
No two Friday evenings are the same. Going out to eat or to the movies with a friend, or just reading/watching a movie at home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have unloaded most of my baggage, but occasionally need someone to help me unpack a little more. I'll tell you more later.

If you think we have something in common, meet and see where it leads. Tip of the day: It's easier to close one door, when you know there is a another to open.
