My self-summary
When I was 10, my dad bought a fancy (but unassembled) barbecue grill. He asked me to get the pieces sorted and he'll help me put it together soon. 30 minutes later he came back to find me finishing the last step. It wasn't until a decade later that I realized I accidentally ruined a day of bonding.

I'm artistically challenged in everything but photography. I love how it sits at the nexus of art, physics, and software. Getting the right exposure is all math, getting the right framing is all art, and removing that weird spot is all software. Yet I still view it as cheating: the beauty was there without me - all I did was push a button or three. As to the art I enjoy consuming, it's all across the board. Music, paintings, theater - some favorites are Wicked, Book of Mormon, and Next To Normal.

I'm the type of person who will drop everything to help family or friends. Most recently, I've made countless trips to Babies R Us buying stuff for my sister and her (adorable!) newborn baby. Some stuff on those shopping lists pushed me a bit outside my comfort zone, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I'm really lucky to have an incredibly loving and giving family - I realize not everyone can be that lucky, but it's important to me to be with someone who wants to build that kind of family with me.
What I’m doing with my life
I fell in love with computers when I was 6 - I taught myself how to do some basic programming. I went to MIT, which both rocked and kicked my ass. I had some awesome college internships working on incredibly cool stuff. For the last 8 years I've been working as a software engineer for the website you probably use most often (not facebook). It's my dream job, though it's still just a job. I love that the hours are reasonable and I have time to have fun.

Now all I want is a great girl to explore the world with.
The first things people usually notice about me
Who's that creepster hiding in our bushes...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Song of Ice and Fire, 1984, anything by Kurt Vonnegut.

Movies: Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, The Matrix, Fight Club.

Shows: Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, and I'm just starting Big Bang Theory. I especially love it every time they make fun of Howard for being "just" an engineer with a master's degree from MIT (ahem...)

Music: Almost everything: From classical to pop, jazz to rock. Rap is the exception.

Food: I like to keep things mostly healthy with an occasional splurge of unhealthy. I eat almost everything.
The six things I could never do without
- My amazing family
- Living it up in the city (food, drink, museums, shows)
- Getting out of the city (travel, hiking)
- Staying in (cooking, TV, board games)
- Computers (it's my work and my hobby)
- My camera
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how online dating is the worst way to meet people, except for every other way (with apologizes to Winston Churchill)

Also, why OKCupid thinks I'm the least progressive person on the planet, even though I'm a Democrat and gave all the right answers to the gay marriage questions. Is it because I gave pro-monogamy answers and OKCupid feels open relationships are progressive?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
When I read a Stephen Hawking book or see a show like Neil deGrasse Tyson's Cosmos, I get a feeling that's vaguely similar to the afterglow of sex. Sometimes I get the same feeling from really great sushi.
