Being a computer geek...

Its both a blessing and a curse at the same time. The amount of time, money, and frustration I save in being able to troubleshoot my own problems is well worth the title "Geek", which I wear proudly.

Its not even that frustrating to find a problem that I can't immediately solve. I have come to relish the challenge of something new, and find it exciting to face a problem that takes a complex solution. Although, that can sometimes lead to over thinking a simple problem...

The downside is when I have a problem that I can't figure out. Normally, I will first consult the great Google, as this entity normally understands my issues, and can quickly and efficiently help me discover the truth behind the problem. However, there are times when Google fails me, or that Google can not help me, and I must consult the Technical Support department at whatever service I am using.

That is the nightmare that a computer geek faces my friends. There is nothing more disheartening than calling the tech line just to find that you yourself know more about the problem than the person who is getting paid to help you out.

Recently, I had to call my ISP for a rather simple procedure. The tech immediately noticed that I actually knew what I was talking about (due to the nature of the request) and vigorously tried to have me troubleshoot some problems he himself was having. One of which was an issue with his VOIP phone.

The irony behind calling the tech department so they can do something for you (not even to fix a problem) and end up fixing their stuff for them.

Of course, I know have an "in" at their tech department. Maybe that will come in handy one day....

Being a dad...

Just some things that I find myself doing that I never thought I would just because I'm a dad:

Admitting that, not only was my father right, but he was right rather often.

Quoting random lines from cartoons such as Over the Hedge, Ice Age I and II, Cars, etc.

Saying "Poopy", "Icky", and various other phrases I thought were "gay" growing up.

Saying "No" more than any other word in the English dictionary.

Driving defensively.

Worrying about health care.

Buying more chocolate milk than god.

Looking into someone else's eyes and seeing myself...

I've been pee'd on, pooped (see, there's that word again) on, thrown up on, slapped, hit, kicked, headbutted (each of those in the groin as well), locked out of my own house, kept up all night (sometimes several in a row). At the end of the day, I've never been happier than when they hand me their sippie (another word I never use), their blanket, and their pillow and want me to lay down with them on the couch to watch Flushed Away for the fifteenth time while they go to sleep, just so I can carry them into their room.

Being a dad is just about the hardest thing I've ever done. It seriously pushes limits to the breaking point and beyond at times. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
