My Notes edit

My self-summary

I'm unconventional. The whole school - internship - job life track doesn't work for me. I'm very relaxed and laid-back in day to day life. I'm an idealist. I have a lot of difficulty compromising if I believe in something strongly, and I am horribly stubborn. I know what I want my life to look like, and I'm on my way there.

My godmother, who was a playboy bunny in the 60s, always contended that I was an old soul. I am not religious, but I subscribe to a lot of psuedo-Buddhist beliefs, and do have firm morals about some issues. Religion/Spirituality is a very positive thing if you use it to better yourself, in my opinion.

I'm looking at renting a house in Midtown/VaHi/L5P soon. And I'm starting to collect guitars. And I taught SAT until I got fired for being "too fun".

I should probably mention that I have fun doing dumb random things that normal people would find quite odd: for example, I got this ridiculously ostentatious piece of "bling" from my uncle for Christmas (mainly because he couldn't think of anything else to give me). And it was supposed to be a joke, but I've taken to wearing it everywhere. When people ask about it I tell them my rap album is coming out soon. It's always fun to see somebody smile because you brought a bit of eccentricity into their day :)

I'm kind of a weird amalgamation of intellectual and stupid/random. If you can engage in nonsensical (yet intelligent) arguments, we'll hit it off. Being able to discuss philosophy / life is always a plus too.

I've been told several times that I have a "challenging" personality - if you can go back and forth with conversation really fast we'll get along great. I tend to pick apart people in conversation, but in a playful way. If you can give it right back to me then you'll get major points.

I run my own businesses; I've also taken classes at Harvard and Duke, but now I'm at Georgia Tech. I've only managed to complete one semester of school in the last two years, but I probably spend 15 - 20 hours per week reading. I don't believe that school performance and intelligence correlate very much. Not that I have any disrespect for education, it's just not my cup of tea. [Update: I actually completed this last semester, so now I've done two. I got 3 D's and a C, but I made A's on the tests. This is because I went to Little 5 Points, had a cup of coffee and walked around the record store rather than taking 3 of my finals. And I think I was much happier for it.]

Free time - I read, do music, go to concerts, travel, watch movies, and try new restaurants/foods. I don't really watch tv very much - would much rather have a conversation about philosophy, business, music, anything really, or maybe go to a hookah bar or walk around Little 5. Basically I like to do things with people and interact with them, rather than finding ways to numb/distract myself.

What I'm doing with my life

I run a business that basically sources anything and everything out of China, imports it, and distributes it. I also do a lot of work with international trade brokering, and I'm looking at getting into custom manufacturing through some of my Chinese contacts. Basically I do whatever interests me, and I like business, so I do stuff with that. I'm also irreverently engaging in the lost cause that is forcing myself through traditional education. I've gone from getting all kinds of academic accolades when I graduated from high school to simply being unconcerned about school (see the exam story above). I take some tests. I don't take others. Grades don't mean anything to me - they're letters, nothing more, nothing less. Have a conversation, and that betrays a lot more about who a person is than anything on a resume.
I also play guitar and write music. I'm thinking about maybe starting a charity to support younger people with depression and other psychological problems. And I will probably spend a lot of time traveling as well... I don't know, life is open, and I want to enjoy it, and improve other people's lives as well as my own.

I'm really good at

All sorts of stuff. I was really good at school back in the day, before I got sick of it and started doing my own thing. I'd like to think I'm good at writing/making music. I can always find a new hole in the wall place to eat, usually where no one speaks English. And I can usually make you laugh unless you're just hellbent on being bitchy for the afternoon...

If you like, you can check out some of the music I've done at the myspace I set up. The songs aren't cleaned up or anything - all of these were just one take with the crappy recording apparatus I put together. I even think in a couple places I have to stop playing for a sec so I can scroll down and read my lyrics... But anyway people had asked about it, so there you are.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

Probably my unconventional philosophy on life. Either that, or that I have an attitude of complete nonchalance about just about everything; except for subjects I actually care about, in which case I am stubborn and principled to an unreasonable degree.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Anywhere in Midtown / Little 5 / Decatur. There's a coffee shop called Dancing Goats in downtown Decatur that has the most amazing coffee. Seriously, you have to try it.

Reading, Playing Guitar and Piano, Good Conversation. Flying Biscuit, Taqueria Del Sol. Kurt Vonnegut.

Music: Wilco, Old 97s, Drive-by Truckers, Okkervil River, Bright Eyes, Josh Ritter, Modest Mouse, Kanye West, Outkast, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Ben Folds, Damien Rice, Wolf Parade. And that is really just scratching the surface.

Living life.

And Into The Wild is probably my favorite book/movie ever, primarily because I can identify with Chris McCandless (the guy the book was about) more than just about any other person I have ever encountered/read about.

The six things I could never do without

Ipod, A guitar, Something to write in, Books, Coffee, People

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What I want in life, how to get it, analyzing things I said/did. Finding new music. Writing new music. How to explain "what I do" when someone asks "What do you do?" (Seriously, it's terrible. When you're 19, everyone says "Where do you go to school?" And my answer is "Well, I was a really really smart kid who got great scholarships to Georgia Tech and other places, but I'm a three time college dropout because it was too slow. So I started an international trade company that's successful. And I also do music. And, um, I'm also getting into real estate and helping a friend start a clothing line. But honestly, that doesn't describe it well, I really just pursue whatever I want or find interesting..." See, that was a detailed answer, and I'm not even any closer to being able to encapsulate "what I do" in a bitesize answer...)

On a typical Friday night I am

Playing guitar, seeing a movie, doing business, whatever I want really. Friday doesn't hold any more significance than any other night of the week though, I don't have a traditional schedule. Shouldn't relegate happiness to one night of the week.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

If you get to know me closely there will probably be a lot of things I talk about that I don't generally. The best thing I'll offer here is that I have Prozac and Adderall on my kitchen counter (update: now Vyvanse too).

The only other thing I can think of is that I've been shot at while trying to sell bling-bling. Yes, that's a true story.

You should message me if

You want to get to know someone new; You aren't going to look at me like I'm crazy when I talk about how messed up our education system is; You want to walk around Little 5; You have 40+GB of music on your iPod; You want to travel with me when I go to Jamaica/Chile/wherever in the future; You don't understand how everybody lives such empty lives.

Or, if you just want to :)
