My self-summary
I'm a little bit nerdy and intelligent, a lot bit musical and adventurous, I like to smile and make people laugh, and I am presently passionately in love with three people who live very, very far away. I/we am/are polyamorous, and while they don't take up a lot of time, they are firmly snuggled up in my heart-space and you will have to share. (Don't worry, there's lots of room!) If this is a problem, you may as well stop your romantic quest at this part of my profile.

I think of myself as nerdy, but I don't indulge in that many nerd culture things like tv shows or games. I'm more interested in science, politics, literature, film, religion and culture. That being said, I am an extremely outgoing and social person and love adventures and taking pleasure in the little things in life like frosted tree branches or fireflies (I've seen them for the first and second times in my life!) I best love spending my time with another person or two discussing matters of the heart, head, or universe.

I love drawing and singing and listening to broadway music. All those who shun Idina Menzel should turn back now.

I'm a passionate advocate for queer rights, and think it's downright silly, offensive, insulting, sad, despicable, what have you, to dislike, disown or hate another person because of who they love. The world needs more love, and more energy needs to be spent on stopping people hurting others than stopping people from loving each other.
What I’m doing with my life
Alright, I just finished a 6-month, life changing volunteering extravaganza with living 10 other people in Canada in June.

In August, I left New York working as an intern at the UN for LGBTQ/SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) rights advocacy. And sweating.

I've now returned to Canada, packed up my stuff from Calgary, and changed schools to go to Montreal to finish a degree in Anthropology with a minor in Interdisciplinary Studies in Sexuality. I spend much of my time wondering how a math-brain with a penchant for theatre ended up reading Engels.

I also have started reading one book per week, which has been a delightfully mind-expanding experience. I found out I love non-fiction as much as (if not more than) fiction.
I’m really good at
Drawing, when I put my mind to it. Or, put my fingers to it? Improv, dancing in the rain, overthinking (and as an antithesis, meditating to decompress.) I can hold my end in a discussion, and I can make people laugh.
The first things people usually notice about me
They say I have a killer smile.

At least they would, if they were still alive.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Time to expand this to more than one per category.

Books:
1) This Is Where I Leave You.
2) Brave New World
3) Sex Matters (Yeah it's a textbook. Do I care?)
4) Cyrano de Bergerac (A play, but I have a 1930 printed Oxford press version. It is a favoured book.)
5) Hotel New Hampshire
6) I, Robot
7) A Confederacy of Dunces
8) The Fool's Gold Series
9) Sex at Dawn
10) The Ethical Slut
11) Shouting out Louder (Jack Layton)
12) The Story of stuff!!1!
12) Beatrice and Virgil (Read this over christmas and still not over it. Someone please help me deal with the trauma.)

Movies:
The Unchallenged #1) Cabaret.
In No particular order:
2) Burlesque, Moulin Rouge, DeLovely. Get all the musicals out of the way.
3) Agora
4) Flipped
I have been told I don't watch a lot of movies... In all honesty I can't remember that many at this moment. I watched both Agora and Flipped within four days of writing this.
5) 500 Days of Summer. I always feel like Zooey Deschanell's character, who doesn't believe in love the traditional way. I hate seeing how this has hurt people in my life, but I frankly think hopeless love is downright unhealthy. This movie helped me think about and get out of two relationships that needed to end.
6) Moon Point - I haven't even finished it, but it's a favourite.
7) Mary and Max

Shows:
1) South Park.
2) Skins
3) Adventure Time
4) Community
5) The Simpsons
6) Futurama
7) Big Bang Theory
8) Doctor Who (So far only with Matt Smith as the Doctor, but I've only JUST been introduced to the show. Give me time!)
9) Firefly
10) Invader Zim

Music:
1) Library Voices are absolutely my favorite band.
2) Broadway tunes. Wicked and Avenue Q are two of my favorite sountracks.
3) Barenaked Ladies
4) Louis Armstrong
5) Baths
6) Maria in the Shower
7) Beirut
8) The Provincial Archive
Anything with really good lyrics and a good melody will make me smile. The way they play around with music will also make me glad (See: Baths and Library Voices). Outside of that, I dig some classical and sing in a couple choirs. Jazz makes me happy too.

Food:
1) Pasta (but wheat makes my tummy cry so it's got to be gluten-free
2) Cookies. Cookies are a food.
3) Vegetables! All of them, but especially broccoli and spinach.
4) Indian food. Hominahomina.
The six things I could never do without

Cellular Respiration and Breathing

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why every popular group, even those that claim to reject beauty ideals, have a distinct look. As if it matters.

Since arriving in New York (and reading the Story of Stuff):

Racism

The copious amounts of waste created

The food we eat

The image of security, and how it leads to a feeling of fear

How much the temperature could be lowered by painting all the roofs white

Why no one smiles or is nice to their children here

What would happen if I smiled at every person I saw

The immense pressure to dress nicely which exists only because of other people dressing nicely
On a typical Friday night I am
Hopefully at improv then swing dancing, but often that is not the case! On a date? At ASL practice? I'm not even sure anymore!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Recently I have fallen out of love with cooking, at least for myself. If I can make it in the microwave, >80% of the time I will. It makes me sad, but it's something I have to accept if I want to eat.
I’m looking for
