My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I tend to love attention but am often struck by terrible shyness. I love people but sometimes want nothing more than to be by myself. I am endlessly patient when dealing with children. But that patience evaporates when an adult with a shopping cart is blocking the aisle because they can’t decide what orange juice to buy. I love living in a city with easy access to great bars, restaurants and culture. But, I grew up in the country, so I am quite often overtaken by an overwhelming need to see a tree that is not surrounded on all sides with concrete. I hate paying for fresh flowers at whole foods; I'd rather pick them. I am a creature of habit but will always consider a better a way of doing something.

Some might call me artsy. I’m certainly not beret-wearing artsy, but I’d agree that I’m creative. I am by no means a scrap booker, but I really enjoy making things, especially in the kitchen. I love the fact that if something is homemade, it’s entirely unique, without precedent. Art, music and books rock my world. Not sure how to explain it without seeming cheesy, but a good book, painting or song carries me to another time and place, taking me away from my current life, to a life I once lived or would like to live. The only speeding ticket I've ever gotten in my whole life was due to the fact that I was listening to a really absorbing audio book (And The Dark Sacred Night by Julia Glass). FYI, state troopers patrolling the Taconic State Parkway do not look kindly on speeding due to audio book distraction. They do not find it cute or charming or funny. I suppose they're just doing their job ...

I'm looking for someone who can commit confidently and wholeheartedly to things: their work, their interests and of course, me. I need someone who respects my choice of career and my decision to pursue a passion not a large paycheck. I need someone who understands that nine times out of ten, I'm not looking for a solution, I'm looking for a hug and some sympathy.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working too much. Trying not to work too much. Looking forward to not working. When I'm not working, I get outside as much as possible. I love the outdoors and get grumpy when I have to stay inside all day. Walking in the woods is one of the most relaxing things I can think of. I love camping but it has to be the kind of camping where I can drive to the site because I like to have my creature comforts: my pillow, an air mattress, stacks of trashy celebrity magazines, and lots and lots of good food to cook and wine to drink. Favorite camping spots are Elk Neck, Cape Henlopen, and Promised Land. I love the beach. As long as I have a chair, a beach umbrella, snacks and a good book, I can hang out for upwards of 5 hours. Tubing on the Delaware River is the bomb although I haven't managed to do it yet this summer. I want to get to the point where I'm an "expert tuber" which will involve having a cooler filled with beer floating alongside me and perhaps a waterproof radio.

I love travelling but haven't made it happen too much over the last 15 years or so. I went to grad school in England and I adored living abroad. It was wonderful to live in a different country for an extended period of time, to find a favorite grocery store, park, radio station. If I could've gotten a job in England , I would've stayed.

I can't think of many places in this world that I don't want to visit. I want to go back to all the place I've been, Ireland, Scotland, Europe, Korea, Greece, the American South and Southwest. But there are so many new places I'd love to explore, Scandinavia, Alaska, Prague, Japan, Morocco, California Wine Country. Lately, I've been daydreaming a lot about retirement, not so I can sit around but so I can travel, hike, camp, read and make complicated meals.

I am a severe NPR nerd. Sticher changed my life. When I start up the app, it states the number of hours I've spent listening and it's something like 50 billion at this stage.
