My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Since we're all here for love -- I hope -- I'll start by saying that I'm very old school. I prefer a quiet dinner to a party. I like reading in a room with my partner in companionable silence. I'm also a bit of a romantic sap. I enjoy cuddling ... and, really, who doesn't?

Candlelight dinners are NOT required, but extra points if you don't mind them once in a while.

I'm a New Yorker, born and raised. Catholic. Conservative with traditional values, though libertarian attitudes (I believe what I believe, and you treat me the same way). Bookworm.

I'm a nerd who writes stuff. I'm okay with staying in and reading books together, or going out to the movies. I'm relatively open to trying almost anything once.

If I haven't scared you off yet, let's continue.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am a published author. Look for an author named "Declan Finn" on Amazon. That's me. You can match up the author photo with one of mine.

I market myself as the anti-Dan Brown... basically, if Dan Brown knew anything about writing, history or theology.

I also have a job writing for the news website The American Journal. They like ranting and raving-esque editorials, so I just unleash my inner Nostalgia Critic and go to town.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Usually, anything I put my mind to. If you're willing to teach me, I'm willing to learn.

Currently, it's Krav Maga, the self defense system of the Israeli military. No, I'm not Jewish, it's just the best system I've found. Capoeira is pretty, but I'm as gymnastic as your average brick, so, no.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I've been told that it's my blue eyes, or my friendly smile.

Most likely, it's the book I'm reading.

A) I'll read anything that isn't nailed down. If it's been on the bestseller list, I've at least read the flap copy if not one book. It's a long, long list. When there was a "virtual book shelf" on Facebook (pre-Goodreads) I stopped when I hit 1500 books.

B) Does it have Cary Grant? I've watched it at least once. Based on a book (Die Hard, Patriot Games, Lord of the Rings)? I might own it. Hitchcock? Got it. Star Wars? Lord of the Rings? Got 'em. We could be here a while.

C) Music: All over the place. Classical, Nightwish, Cruxshadows, Dragonforce, most of John Williams' soundtracks, et al. My masters thesis was on Irish Rebel songs and history, so there's a list right there.

D) TV..... I miss 24, Burn Noticed, CSI: NY and Babylon 5. I currently watch NCIS, Castle, Mentalist, Joss Whedon products, Revenge, Criminal Minds, Hawaii 5-0, Royal Pains, White Collar; Dr. Who. And Arrow. Because everyone watches Arrow.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
God, my books, my family, and writing. I know I'm two short, but I've forced myself to go without so much for so long, I've made do.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Relaxing with a book, or the week's television on playback. Do you have a better offer?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'll admit anything, but not to the general world. Just ask me.

Aside from that? My dating resume is filled with the bat-guano insane. I could write a book on it.

I'm looking for a strictly monogamous relationship. Preferably something that eventually leads to marriage. At least mildly devout Catholics need apply (ie: an Every-Sunday Catholic, not an Easter and Christmas Catholic)
