My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hi my name is Gary.
I can be funny and very fun, and isn’t fun the best thing to have! I love my work, live music, witty comedy and good drama.
Since I was in high school I have worked with musicians and in 1976 I started working at it professionally. I am a live sound engineer. I have worked for and toured with many major live music performers; Santana, Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers, Toto, REO Speedwagon, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Emmy Lou Harris, Oingo Boingo, B.B. King, Allman Brothers Band, Bellamy Brothers, Quincy Jones, Brothers Johnson, Glen Campbell, Rick James, Jefferson Starship, Robert Palmer, Hollies Reunion Tour, Basia, Chick Corea, George Thorogood, L.A. Guns, David Lindley, Waylon Jennings, Charlie Sexton, LL Cool J, Multi-Band Reggae Tours that even took me to Africa, where Fela & King Sunny Ade were part of the show. These tours have taken me around the States and the World but I rarely got to see the sites, except for the inside of the venue. Yes, I have seen some really cool places and done some really cool things. Had some awesome days off all over the world. Spent many nights in hotels and on tour buses. For many reasons I quit touring over ten years ago and now I just do local shows a few times a month.
In the last ten years or so I have developed my expertise in my hobby into a business. I buy and sell items on eBay and travel to collector conventions nation-wide on a regular basis for my personal business.
But I really love working on live music productions. Setting up and operating large sound systems can be very physically demanding so that has kept me in good shape my whole life. I know I should exercise more but with my slightly wacky work and travel schedule staying on a workout routine is very difficult. I enjoy working out and I feel much better when I do. I have a pool and I enjoy swimming laps, when the water temperature is bearable.
I stated my “Body Type” as “Average” because I am the perfect weight for my height and age, but many might say I am “Slim or Fit”. I thought about using one of the more flattering body type descriptions but I would rather be on the more truthful side of the scale. Although, I am currently more than ten pound under the perfect weight, so I might be thin-ish, you decide.
I am a Democrat and very liberal. I have strong conviction about what is right or wrong and it has nothing to do with religion. I need to say this because I feel if two people have opposite political or religious views; life and love can be extremely difficult. Plus, I really don’t like to argue with my partner. So if you are politically liberal and religion does not influence every decision you make in life, may be we could be a good match and you should read more about me.
I am a good person and easy going, still a hippy at heart with very long hair to prove it, even though it is usually kept back in a ponytail. I love dogs, but mine (Lewis, the grestest dog in the world) passed away in Aug. 2012 and I really miss my best friend, but it might be a little while before I rescue another. I think I will wait to see how my new friend/partner/wife feels about pets. So, if you have a dog that would be great. Cats are OK too.
I have been told I have lived an exciting life and I have great stories to tell of my many adventure and life experiences, so I have good conversations with most people but I am also a bit shy until I overcome my initial reserve. I am a good listener, sounding board and conversationalist with my friends and partners and I expect the same courtesy when I need to talk out my problems. I am a bit of a procrastinator, but I can be an awesome dynamo when under the gun. I can be very open and honest even with a stranger (like right now); I am better live (phone or in person) than via email or IM (not so great a speller or typer).
I am a casual dresser, I only own one or two ties and never have seen a need to wear one except at a wedding or a funeral.
I have had long hair and my beard since I was in college. My beard is going gray but there are very few gray hairs elsewhere and no bald spots or receding hairlines. I look, act and feel much younger then my numerical age, good genes run in my family. Most people assume or guess I am about 45-48, but I am being honest in this profile.
Most of the pictures I posted are very recent, so there will not be any surprises there.
I think it would take a very special woman to think I am "The ONE" for her and I am looking for YOU! I hope to make YOU very Happy and Satisfied with OUR Future and Life Together.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Living life day to day. Trying to keep my head above the water and stay sane. Aren't we all? I guess I am trying to find YOU (whoever YOU are) or I would not be here.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have been told that my eyes are nice and my eyebrows are very expressive even when I am not talking. I am friendly, nice and open. Funny and witty. Since I keep my hair back in a ponytail many people don't even notice that I have very long hair.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Sorry I just don’t read books. I have read the Los Angeles Times every morning almost everyday for over 30 years. It is very important for me to keep current on local, national and world events.

As for movies I have not been to a theater since Titanic and because of technical problems that night they refunded our money and I never saw the ending, but I do know the boat sank. Although, this Lincoln movie sounds like a worthwhile trip to go see. Most movies that I have seen after they make it to DVD or Cable would not have been worth going to see on the big screen away. I do have some favorites; Caddy Shack, Blazing Saddles, This is Spinal Tap, Doctor Strangelove, Raising Arizona, The Godfather series, Jaws, Wizard of OZ, Fantasia, anything by the Marx Brothers, I like many old B&W movies from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s.

Shows? I do like Broadway plays but only been to a few. (And my niece is a struggling actress in New York with some off Broadway experience) Like the Symphony and had season tickets when I lived in Long Beach a few year ago (Yes Long Beach has it’s own Symphony Orchestra). Really like any performance where top talent shows off their stuff.

TV Shows. Comedy and good drama are my favorite. I do watch MSNBC on a regular basis and late local news. Late Night with David Letterman. Yes I do like to watch some sports on TV. Pro Football, Angels Baseball, and NASCAR. and of course Pro Football play-off games and the Super Bowl, and the same goes for Baseball play-off games and the World Series, no matter if my teams are in them, but I am not not a fanatic about it if there is something better or more important to do or if I have to work.

Music: I love the band Rush, I am no metal head and Rush is what is call PROG (progressive rock) and I do like other PROG bands like Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, ELP, ELO, Jethro Tull. I have worked with so many bands in my life and I like their music so it would be an extremely long list of Classic rock, Blues, Jazz, and even Country. Although I did a tour with LL Cool J and I would never buy or listen to Rap unless I was getting paid. But Rush tops the list; they are three extremely talented and gifted musicians. Neil Peart the drummer writes all the lyrics and his lyrics and the music that is built around them is so moving and complex their music just grabs and entertains me. How many rock bands write and perform so many moving and beautiful songs on such varied subject as the Holocaust, the Manhattan Project and the development of the first nuclear bomb, the Countdown of a space shuttle launch, running a Marathon, choosing Freewill, living in the Limelight, Subdivisions, today's Tom Sawyer or a Red Barchetta? It would be great if you like them, but if you hang out with me for very long you will most likely become a fan also, well at least I hope you do.

Food; I love a good steak, thick cut pork chops and ribs, chicken, and fish (as I aged I became allergic to shellfish and I miss it) Simple salads, streamed green veggies. And I just love Sushi. I know the best place in the Valley to go. I have been going to Chiba’s in NoHo for over 25 years and Shig (the owner) is a great friend. Oh yes I like Chocolate!

Sorry but I don't drink coffee and never have but I understand the need for a little caffeine very now and then.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Air, Water, Food, Sleep. That is really about it. and there have been times when it was only air, because I had to go way too many hours without food, water or sleep. I guess I could throw in proper attire for the current weather conditions. Going on tour sometimes was not so glamorous of a job as one might think, but it makes great stories after you live through them. There was this one tour in Africa that... I will tell you about it sometime.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Why are there so many women on this site that state their age as either 48 or 49 and so few in their early to mid 50's and how many and which ones are really in their 50's? Just thinking. It's OK because that is just how many women react to age, but we need to be open and honest here. And what is with all these picture taken of yourself sitting in the driver seat of your car?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Well here I go being open and honest.

There are three distinct typical Friday nights for me.

(1) Since most of the live audio work I do is on weekends. My Friday night started about 8am unloading the truck full of audio gear and spending the day setting up for a event/concert/show at some venue; a theater/event center/arena or outdoor stage. At about 8pm the lights go out and the show begins. The talent performs and the audience has a great time. After the show ends, we tear it down and pack it up and then load the truck. Sometimes we do events outside during the day or rave events that last until dawn. So my Friday and/or Saturday can be extremely long hard days. (but I love it) But you get the picture I am not available for time with you. But it is my job and I need to pay the bills.

(2) Many times over the course of a year I travel to collector conventions nation-wide for my business. These conventions last many days and run usually Thursdays - Sunday. So many times I leave a day before and return late on Sunday night. So when I am at a collector’s convention usually on Friday night I am sitting in some hotel meeting room participating in a live auction trying to purchase items for my clients, inventory for my business or items for my personal collection with the lowest possible bid to win the item and still make a profit when I sell it. Again I am away and not with you but it is my business and the profits can be very good.

(3) Currently those free Friday nights are open and boring. First I would like to fill them up with dates with you (whoever you are) Once we have a steady relationship, I would love for you to fill these weekend up with stuff. Since my life eats up many Fridays and Saturdays I feel it is only fair that you have some major input to our activities when I am free on a weekend, because YES I love spending time with you. I would hope you attended your book club or poetry reading on the weekends I am busy and we could do fun stuff; dinner out/dancing/concerts/the fair/short get-away trips (hotel sex is always extra fun)/gardening/Angels Baseball games/hikes/movies/yard sales/party’s/a good healthy roll in the hay, I could go on but I think you get the picture here too. Having a good relationship when I was younger and I would go out on tour for weeks and months at a time was difficult but I made it work and with the right woman this can work too, honest. I hope I don’t scare you away even before I get to meet you, but it is best if you know the current situation. I feel like I am at a crossroad in my life. I am open to change and I would like to meet you so I can figure out what changes I should consider. Heck I am looking for a new life partner/mate/wife and one of us is going to have to move at some point, and that is OK it is just something I have been thinking about. Someday, we will look back on this and laugh; I know we will. It will be part of our rich and wonderful story together. Is it YOU that will join me on that new journey?

you feel that I am someone you would be comfortable meeting i.e.: looks (I know some women do not like facial hair or long hair on men, but I guess you would not be reading this if that applied to you), attitude, political and religious belief and my basic profile, then feel free to make the first move and please contact me.

But I guess you should read on. Just like some women will not find me acceptable because I have facial hair and women have likes and dislikes of certain traits or physical characteristics of us men. I would like to use this area to say something about what I would like in a potential mate/partner/wife.

Would love to find someone is smart with similar political views, that has grown up and has her emotions and head under control. Likes to laugh, because I do. No drama is a key life factor. Has a good relationship with her family. A great career and good steady job that she loves (and with benefits would be nice). It would be totally cool with me if you make more money than me. Good for you and good for us. I would be proud of you and I would be your biggest supporter. Someone who likes live music, but no tattoos or groupie’s, does not smoke cigarettes and only drinks rarely. No kids or adult or very late teens, who are well adjusted and have their own life under control. You can be religious or spiritual but you do not need to go to church and you do not care that I do not believe and never have. Knows how to keep a house clean and can cook some, and I would help and share in those areas too. Someone who is a partner, a friend and lover. I like smart women, college grad preferred, I don’t mind a woman that is school smarter than me, though I am kind of smart even though I never received a four year degree at college. I like a woman who is comfortable enough with herself that she believes that makeup does not make a woman, tennis shoes, jeans and a tee shirt are fine attire but not slob either. Can look totally hot wearing jeans or that little black dress, at least in my eyes. If you are a fancy dresser or make-up and hair are extremely important all the time; then you are probably not for me. I would prefer a woman that is younger than me and young at heart because I need that to make me feel younger and because like I said I don’t look, act or feel my age. I prefer thin, slender or even a petite woman, who is definitely not taller than me. I love long hair on women because they look youthful, prettier and more feminine, I would hope you feel the same. No, your hair does not have to be as long or longer than mine. But if your hair is really short that is probably a deal breaker and the same would apply if you are too over weight. But that really depends on the over-all package, for some it might be OK.
Big plus if people think your bubbly, and fun. I am looking for someone who would truly be my better half, my partner in life, and my true love. Life with Gary has been very fun in the past and I hope that we can have tons of fun together in the future. I am a quirky kind of guy but I am sure there are a few women that will find my approach to this match thing refreshing and intriguing. I am really looking for my life partner/mate/wife, but we need to get along and respect each other ideas and ideals. Love is the easy part, that is what we human do “fall in love” but lasting love is the goal and that takes time to prove.
I can get references (if requested) that will affirm; I am a really good guy, if that holds any weight.
What do you think, am I THE ONE for YOU? Really, make the first move and contact me if you think I might be someone you would like to at least take that chance on meeting and see if there are sparks and chemistry.
I hope we find each other soon.

Ok, I understand many women feel uncomfortable about making the first move but it would be nice if you gave me some kind of hint/nudge that would let me know you are interested and you would like to hear for me.
I really like this site with the match/friend/enemy % feature so we can see how compatible we are and we can compare how we answered the same questions that are very important for each of us. Here are some real question and your answers are very important to me. Beards - cool or ugly? / Is long hair on a guy inappropriate? / Do you find glasses on the opposite sex attractive?
Well, now I am sure we are both wondering if the other finds us attractive or not. Especially if we have both answered a stupid amount of questions in common and we still have an over 85% friends and over 90% match. I wish I was not so much of a procrastinator (tomorrow I will email her, but we running out of tomorrow's Gary) Plus I am worried about rejection or making life choice mistakes, because I am not really very shy. I am sure some of you want me to contact you to see if there is any chemistry. I am serious here. I am not looking for a series of conquests, or friends with benefits at this point in my life, I did that in the 1980's and that is not for me anymore.
Please give me a nudge, if not I am sure I will soon be bold enough to contact that one special irresistible high % match/friend woman on my favorites list and see what happens. Will you shoot me down or will you be THE ONE?

I think everyone should watch this video that explains how the answers to the questions build the percentages that make up the Match/Friend/Enemy feature on this dating site. = Inside OKCupid: The math of online dating. Christian Rudder, one of the founders of popular dating site OKCupid, details the algorithm behind 'hitting it off.'
