My Notes edit

My self-summary

West side of Madison, born and raised; in my friend's basements is where I spent most of my days... (okay, no more profile stuff done to the Fresh Prince theme song. For now...).

But, theme songs aside, what I've mentioned is true. Lived in Madison, WI my whole life. It's kind of at the point where I need to get out, but I'll save that for a later section.

My name is Greg, and I enjoy a variety of things. In that vein, my activities and beliefs tend to span a wide spectrum.

For example, I can spend one weekend hiking, fishing, swimming, and just enjoying the wonderment of nature in Northern WI and be down in Chicago at the clubs the next.

I love to travel and see new places, but it's always good to come home again.

I believe that the best policies are those that have an optimistic view of humanity, while remembering that people cannot always live up to those standards.

I believe that there are rational explanations for the way the world works, but that at the heart of these rationales are things that cannot be explained without appealing to a high power (since this might be overly vague, I believe in evolution and also believe in God. I also enjoy discussing esoteric things like this, especially with people who hold different views than I do).

This is getting a little long, so I'll (try to) be a little more succinct. I'm outgoing. I like interacting with and meeting new people.

I love driving. Whether it's a road trip with a specific destination, or just driving for the sake of driving. There's something intoxicating about knowing that I can drive anywhere I want at the drop of a hat (well not *anywhere* I suppose, but you get the idea).

I love my cabin in Northern Wisconsin. I don't get up there as often as I'd like, but it will always have a special place in my heart.

I'm always up for karaoke. I love to sing, although it's usually limited to when I'm in my room or in the shower. Karaoke is my chance to put my singing skills on public display.

I can go out or stay in, as long as the company is good.

My humor tends to be a lot of word play, sexual innuendo and a fair amount of good natured teasing. A lot of what I say is said tongue-in-cheek, which is a lot easier to pick up when you can see the mischievous smirk on my face when I say it.

What I'm doing with my life

To best talk about what I'm doing, I suppose I should touch on what I've done. Graduated from UW-Madison with BS in Biology, Anthropology and a Certificate (aka a minor for the uninitiated) in Religious Studies. I have a passion for both the hard sciences, and for gaining an understanding of humanity.

A need to deal with people led me to opt out of going to grad school for biology, and choose law school instead. I'm currently in my second year, and the saying is true (in the first year of law school they scare you to death, in the second they work you to death, and in the third they bore you to death).

I'm currently trying to survive my course load and find a summer associate position for next summer. Long term goals are to work in a bigger city than Madison, like Minneapolis or Chicago.

For those with any knowledge/interest in law, I originally planned on doing Intellectual Property law to apply my Biology degree. However, my desire to help others has been rising, and am also considering being a public defender, or possibly getting involved in some other kind of government work.

I'm really good at

I'm good at solving problems efficiently, whether it be a complicated brain teaser, figuring out the optimal strategy in a game, or simply planning the most efficient way to make it to all the desired parties/bars for the evening.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

I smile easily and often, so I've been told that that is usually the first thing people notice about me.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Song of Ice and Fire Series by George R.R. Martin, Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, The Magus by John Fowles, Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield.

Movies: I enjoy most movies, the only movie I've considered getting up and leaving in the middle of was In the Name of the King. But to name some specifics; Boondock Saints, Thank You for Smoking, Supertroopers, Harold and Kumar, The Rock, Eurotrip, Pirates of the Caribbean, Hot Fuzz, Bring It On: All or Nothing, Con Air.

Music: Depends on the mood I'm in. And more often than not it will be a few songs by any given artist, rather than their whole album. Some examples that I never tire of: Lucky Boys Confusion, A Tribe Called Quest, Notorious B.I.G., Flogging Molly, Gaelic Storm, Atmosphere, Youngblood Brassband, Jedi Mind Tricks, Journey

**Also, I have long been an opponent of country, but I'm beginning to come around to it. Particularly Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood. Nothing sexier than a girl who can nail that song at karaoke.

TV Shows (not on the list, I know): Psych, Heroes, Californication, How I Met Your Mother, Boston Legal, Scrubs, and Sports Night.

Food: I'll try anything once, and enjoy a large variety of foods. However, choosing favorites; any kind of pizza and Qdoba.

The six things I could never do without

1) Friends and Family
2) My Cell Phone
3) Being Outdoors
4) My mp3 player
5) A car
6) My superior wit and guile, to defend myself from people who try to kill me (I promised no more theme songs. I said nothing about obscure TV show references. Bonus points if you recognize it from Sports Night)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Where I want to end up once I'm done with law school. What kind of a career I want to have.

Beyond those mundane, yet necessary things...thinking about the meaning of life, the universe and everything, places I've traveled to and places I'd like to visit in the future, my game plan just in case there is a zombie apocalypse, you know the same things everyone thinks about.

On a typical Friday night I am

Hanging out while watching a movie and playing drinking games with my friends before we head out for a night at the bars, or a party of some sort.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I might have a few Disney songs on some of my playlists, and I might know most or all of the words to them. And I...uh...may or may not sing along if no one else is around.

You should message me if

You've seen something here that intrigues you. If you're laid back, while still having drive. If you enjoy a little adventure. If you not only don't mind a little friendly teasing, but can also give as good as you get.

Or if you're just interested in talking about something unrelated to law school (or if you must, I do also enjoy talking about law school).
