My self-summary
Let's see how bland I can make this... I am 5'9", healthy, active,
teddy-bear stocky, drug- and disease-free, a very light drinker and
complete non-smoker. I
sing, I
Scrabble, I
bicycle, and all my bills are paid! I'm
a techno-geek and a goof-ball, but I also play a little piano (and
a little less guitar). I am currently IT Manager for a TV movie
company in mid-town Manhattan, and living in Battery Park City. I
love working and building with my hands, and I love the
outdoors--water, grass,
sky, breezes, animals (especially dogs!). Let's sing a song, spell
a word, bike a mile, toss a frisbee, surf the internet, and quote
'80s movies at each other. Who could ask for anything more?
What I'm doing with my life
I play at working. I play at living. That is, I play at working for
a living. Frankly, I've always felt that I'm just pretending to be
an adult 'cause it's easier than getting stared at all the time.
I'm a technophilic, musical-loving, occasional professional singer
and full-time computer geek. No, I'm not gay. Yes, I'm sure. I
spend my days maintaining and administrating the computer network
systems for a television movie company. Mostly I just enjoy the
expensive toys. The "working at it part" almost takes all the fun
out of it (almost). I spend evenings and weekends in a variety of
activities depending upon mood and season. In the
spring/summer/fall I bicycle into Central Park and sing with a
guitar friend by
the row-boat pond. When it's colder I enjoy movies, theater, and
TV, whether at home or out. I also play a bit of piano and guitar,
and sing at home quite often. I read action/adventure, mostly
science-fiction, and historical fiction.
I'm really good at
Science and technology-- I'm extremely handy, able to
repair/install/build pretty much anything around the
house--appliances, audio/video, furniture, etc. Plus, of course,
computer expert, too. Singing-- Occasional pro singer and musical
theater performer (member AEA). Way back in the day, I toured the
US several times performing in musicals. I can harmonize with
practically anything. You can view my old performing resume and
hear a little singing at http://www.Dimarc.com. I also regularly
sing with David Ippolito, "That Guitar Man from Central Park"
(http://www.ThatGuitarMan.com). Scrabble-- Good enough to scare
lay-people, but not quite good enough for tournaments. I enjoy
playing opponents from around the world on the internet, but prefer
in-person. I'm certainly competitive, but always take defeat
lightly. (Hey, it's just a game!) Bicycling and outdoors-- I love
to bike along the Hudson and through Central Park. There are
year-round, twice monthly 10pm moonlight rides that are wondrously
beautiful and quiet, though the colder months are definitely more
for the fanatics (in us all). I love the outdoors, and have a
special affinity for Central Park. A sunny afternoon in Sheep
Meadow with a frisbee never gets tired...and when it does, just
collapse in the grass.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me
It must be something weird, 'cause no one has ever told me.
Personally, I don't think there's anything that initially stands
out about me. I think it's more about realizing how diverse and
eclectic my interests are as someone gets to know me. (If I'm
singing, that's what people always notice).
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
BOOKS-- Caleb Carr, "The Alienist"--Wonderful descriptions of
19th-century life in NYC. Douglas Adams, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to
the Galaxy"--Great marriage of science fiction and British
drollery. Laurel K. Hamilton, Anita Blake series--Dark, sexual,
brooding, playful alternate reality writing about defeating every
monstrous evil imagined, while learning to live with people that
only annoy you. MOVIES-- I'm definitely one of those people that
can watch movies that I enjoy countless times. Classic favorites
include
Dave,
The
American President,
When Harry Met Sally,
Sleepless
In Seattle,
Witness For The
Prosecution,
Serendipity,
Roman Holiday,
Breakfast At
Tiffany's,
Always,
Grand Canyon, and the list goes on
and on and on. (Yes, I can quote '80s movies with the best of
them.) MUSIC-- For me, music is very much about what's fun to sing,
so I often don't know popular music by artist or even lyric so much
as melody. With that said, favorites that have sunk in include
Eagles,
Doobie Brothers,
Enya,
James Taylor, and much
more. There's far too much musical theater to begin to try to pick
favorites there. Again, it's often just as much about what's fun to
sing as it is the meaning in the song. I'll also mention that I
generally go to sleep listening to Enya's "Watermark". FOOD-- I
love seafood, Japanese, Italian, Chinese, and classic American
diners.
The six things I could never do without
Music. I'm definitely one of those "would prefer losing my sight to
losing my hearing" kind of people... A big bed, preferably a
four-poster. A piano. TiVo. E-mail. Hope.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I spend a lot of time thinking about what I want. Do I want to buy
a condo in the city and happily take on that mortgage, or should I
just sell everything I own and live out of a backpack wherever I
land? Do I want to continue to work in computers, or go back to
professional performing? Do I put myself up on an internet dating
site like a piece of cured meat, or just leave it to fate that I'll
round a corner among 8,274,527 people and suddenly meet the woman
who's been looking for me?
On a typical Friday night I am
I work hard, so I'm usually relaxing at home after a long week's
work. If I go out I might head to a piano bar or karaoke.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here
I was once arrested... for speeding. Rather embarrassingly lame and
stupid, as arrest stories go. Even the cop was embarrassed.
