My self-summary
I'm a Latin teacher, Netflix addict, and hobby engineer. I love to talk about meaningless stuff like the accuracy of movies set Ancient Rome. I grew up in Nashville, but I've seen surprisingly little of it. I went to college in Texas for a bit, came back to Tennessee to finish up and graduate. I played at being an engineer a little bit in that process, but my heart is in languages. I love learning new ways to say old things.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm teaching Latin at a private school. In the summer I travel and go to conventions.
I’m really good at
Talking endlessly about a lot of things. Most of them don't matter. I can also listen well enough, when I remember my manners. I can follow a recipe decently, fix just about any computer problem, and read (with a struggle) most things in a language derived from Latin. Okay, maybe not most things, but I can usually come up with a hilarious fake translation on the spot.

I solve problems like an engineer, even though I left that path a long time ago. I list out my constraints, and I find a solution. People tend to be more complicated constraints than budgets or tensile strength, though, and I'm not as good at dealing with them.
The first things people usually notice about me
I talk a lot. It can be a great thing, if someone is more quiet and reserved, or it can be awful if I'm talking to another chatterbox and shutting someone else out.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
What comes to mind right now:
Classic fantasy: LotR, Harry Potter, etc.
Roald Dahl, though I've lost my copy of the collection of his shorter stories. I wish I could find it and reread it.
I'm halfway through the third book in the Game of Thrones series. I stopped when I had some fairly big stuff accidentally spoiled, and I just can't restart.
I read a lot of the popular stuff among teenagers (i.e. my students) just because I prefer to understand what they're going on about. The last item in this category was the Hunger Games books.

I watch a lot of television, but mostly after it airs so I can watch it on Hulu or Netflix. Fringe is one of my favorite shows of all time. I really enjoy superhero movies. And Firefly.
The six things I could never do without
Ancient authors- Catullus, Cicero, Vergil - their writings are the reason I teach
Google Earth- cheaper than a plane ticket
Something to tinker with (and probably break once or twice)
A computer - because sometimes my own brain isn't fast enough for what I want
Wikipedia- it makes me seem smarter than I am all too often
And that's only five. I guess that's all I need.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Where I'll go when I uproot and explore the world.
On a typical Friday night I am
listening to my roommates go on about stuff, checking in on my family, or seeing some new superhero movie reboot.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a geek, to my core. I'm passionate about brain-stuff.
