I am very laid back with a witty and quirky sense of humor (most likely the result of years of watching the Kids in the Hall and Mystery Science Theater 3000). I'm kind of work-a-holic, too, as you would expect from someone training to be a physician-scientist. I just moved here from the midwest to do my residency training. I love taking care of patients (particularly the old guys at the VA, who are non-stop hilarious), and I'm a science geek.
I spend most of my free time at home reading and listening to records with my cat, MCAT. I like going to rock shows (most recently, I've seen the Melvins, A Place to Bury Strangers, Torche, and I've already got my tickets for Ghost, Heartless Bastards, Yonaton Gat, and Here We Go Magic).
I like going on hikes as well, and I'm a big fan of craft beers (which is sadly a major weak part in Salt Lake City's game). In general I'd be interested in exploring more of SLC and surrounding environs.
What I’m doing with my life
I often facetiously describe myself as professional student, but I'm training to be a physician-scientist. I completed my MD and PhD degrees and now am doing my residency training.
I’m really good at
If you're looking to hang out with me: being a smart ass
If you're looking to hire me: organization and time management.
The first things people usually notice about me
I guess my sense of humor. I usually start off pretty shy, and as a
result, I don't think most people don't expect it until it hits
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I am a voracious reader. My favorite books are anything by Thomas Wolfe or Dostoevsky. I also love books about history, language and philosophy.
I am a music geek, particularly indie rock and I'm getting more into metal. My favorite all time band is Guided by Voices. Lately, I have been listening to a lot of Sigur Ros, Dum Dum Girls, Kishi Bashi, Mogwai, and Beach House, Chelsea Wolfe, Swans, and Godspeed You, Black Emperor.
I love all kinds of movies, but The Big Lebowski is by far my favorite.
I don't watch a lot of TV, but I've liked Game of Thrones. If my TV is on, it's usually on sports (baseball, football, basketball, and soccer when I can find it).
The six things I could never do without
1. My books (I've got a lot of them).
2. My records (I love vinyl).
3. My friends.
4. Good conversation.
5. My Cat
6. I wouldn't make it too far without my glasses, I suppose.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why you park in a driveway, but drive on a parkway.
Who buys creamy peanut butter when there is crunchy.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hopefully, I'm at a show or hanging out with friends playing cards or something. Otherwise, I'm perfectly content sitting at home reading and listening to records with my cat.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I cried when Goose died.
You should message me if
You like nerds.
Huge bonus points if (1) you like craft beers, (2) you try to
shoehorn words like "obfuscatory" in to conversations whenever
possible, or (3) have heard of any of the bands mentioned above.
