He has no first contact rating (what?)

Much strangeness with friends % and matching

So, a quick random note about a few things I have noticed since I have been back on OKC...

I have a significantly higher number of high % matches than I have when I was a member in the past. I even have done that "search anywhere" thing, and I have matches as high as 96% in various parts of the country, and I seem to have dozens in the low 90%'s... I even have a handful of 90%+ in the 25 mile radius. (Ok, why the hell did they get rid of the 10 mile radius search for matching? I think that there's enough people, with gas prices being what they are, that would love to have that back...) I have some friends who have never seen a 90% match, and only a few high 80's, so I am optimistic that there are a bevy of beautiful and interesting women out there...

Anyway, so there's lots of high percentage matches, but I notice that there are remarkably few high friendship % matches. Actually, damn few. And the % match for friendship on the high % matches romantically are usually in the 60% range. So what does this mean? Am I in a place where my questions are showing that I am better off with someone to date, but not to pursue as a friend? Is the "system" making a comment about how people can't really be dating and be friends? What exactly is it that I should take away from this?

And, on another side, I have had a few dates, and a lot of EMails with OKCupid members. I fully have faith in at least the superficial matching, and have found that people under 70-75% are nowhere near as interesting to me as people in the 80-90% range... It just seems strange to me that I can find so many high levels in one area, but so few high level in the friendship range...

Anyway, I realize that personal chemistry is a huge thing, as well... but it's a fun starting point, and fun to discuss. Any opinions on this low friendship % phenomena?

Which of the two would be your preference: A lifetime supply of your favorite snack food or a 30-minute orgasm??
  • Duh. The 30-minute orgasm
  • Give me the Snacks!
Hmmm... this isn't saying that you can never have orgasms... or is *every* orgasm a 30 minute one? forever?

Now if you could get a snack food that gave you orgasms... wait, that's called chocolate...

I really don't see the correlation... this is like saying... "Would you rather save 15 acres of the rainforest, or would you rather have a cell phone with unlimited minutes."...

Imagine you are on a first date and accidentally discover your date is packing condoms. Which would be closest to your reaction?
  • I'd tease them about it.
  • I'd acknowledge it, but politely.
  • I'd pretend I didn't see it.
  • I'd end the date.
Boy, are they missing the real answer to this question...

"I'd ask them to make balloon animals..."

Did they get rid of that personlized test thingie?

Ok, in previous incarnations at OKCupid, they had a personalized 15 question test for each person that you could take to tell your compatibility based on that test. Is that history? Did they get rid of it? Anyone know the reason why, if they did? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

It's not incredibly important, but it's like when your arm gets shot off by vampire Nazi's in WWIII, and you get that pain where your arm used to be, and it's one of those weird things you never noticed you didn't notice until it was gone...

I know, made no sense, but I have to keep up my track record of witticism.

Which describes you better?
  • Confrontational
  • Non-confrontational
Is there a bias against being confrontational? It's an interesting read on this question. I actually would rather be with someone who was willing to "confront" the issues in the relationship and have some sort of resolution to them, than someone who was "non-confrontational" and unwilling to have conflict at the sake of resolving problems...

actually, I already dated that one. Didn't work out so well....

Would you rather live in a country where YOUR religion was the OFFICIAL religion, or in a country where all religions were treated the same?
  • I'd prefer my religion was the Official religion
  • I'd prefer all religions were treated the same
OMG, can you imagine a Wiccan city-state? I mean, I am a firm believer in religious freedom, but the thought of a culture where Harm None was taken seriously, and the faith was a part of daily life... It's just too wonderful to consider... (or at least a pretty darn good sci-fi story waiting to be written)

Could you date a stripper?
  • Yes
  • No
I think this question really has a gender bias to it... (but, is actually gramatically and conceptually sound...) Do men have a different stigmata for dating a dancer than women?

Oh, and I so take this question to mean ballet dancer. That's what it's about right? The stigmata of dating a ballet dancer?

Do animals have "souls" like humans do?
  • Yes
  • No
No, animals have a totally different type of soul... it's Chocolate coated, and delicious, and totally unlike the icky human soul.

I wonder how people who don't believe that humans have souls would deal with this question. I guess they would have to skip it...

Do you believe in some kind of a spiritual, cosmic force outside the realm of most modern religion?
  • Yes
  • No
Wow... what the hell is this question trying to say? Frankly, if one has a belief in a 19th century Omnipotent being, is that less fun than a "modern" religion's God? How about a non-spiritual cosmic force outside the realm of modern religion... Gravity perhaps?

Frankly, as a Wiccan, the spiritual, cosmic forces I believe in are kind of non-modern, so ho the hell am I supposed to answer this question?

Ok, I know, I nitpick the verbage, but semantics are important.

How would you react if a partner bought you an outfit to be worn during sex?
  • Positively.
  • Negatively.
  • Indifferently.
  • It would depend upon the outfit.
Something in leather, maybe... A chicken outfit, or a clown costume, then we're going to have a problem.

Yes, even if it was a sexy clown costume.

Wait, is there such a thing as a sexy clown costume?
