Life change alert! In late August 2014 one afternoon I walked into a WalMart after a day of scalloping, fishing, drinking, weed smoking, etc out on the boat with friends and I stuck my arm into one of those blood pressure machines. The numbers came back and read 155 / 95 and according to the little chart on the side of the device that isn't good. I went home and started doing research about "prehypertension" and "hypertension" and started getting freaked out. Needless to say, shortly after this I decided it was time to change my life. I had been living a mostly sedentary lifestyle since college and ate a diet of mostly prepared, processed foods. I hadn't been to a doctor in almost 10 years for any sort of wellness checkup and honestly I was terrified of what they would tell me. I am 5'8 and I was about 255 pounds and wore 40-42 waist in my pants. I started going to the gym 5 - 6 days a week lifting weights, doing cardio on the side, going to bed earlier, and eating WHOLE FOODS. Lots of fresh veggies, probably ate more fresh veggies in the last 6 months than I ate in the 10 years prior combined. Lots of grilled chicken as well, lots of eggs, lots of protein powder. 9 months later, I weigh 185 pounds, wear 32-34 waist in my pants now, and my latest profile pic reflects how I look now vs comparing to the rest of my profile pics. I went to the doctor for a wellness checkup after doing this for 5 months and got a physical and blood work done. My blood pressure is now 115 / 65. My blood showed that my sugars, fats, cholesterol, etc are all in optimal, healthy range. Its safe to say I've officially changed my life in the way I look at activity, food, nutrition, myself, etc. I feel so much better than I ever did before and I never even realized!!!
Now I'm a lazy, in shape, healthy, nerdy pothead ;)
