Hi, I'm Gideon. I think it's really difficult to sum up a person in
a few words, but here are some of the basics. We can talk and find
out some of the more interesting things later. I'm originally from
New Jersey and I lived in Arizona for nine years before coming to
DC. I work as an attorney in Northern Virginia, but I don't let
that define who I am. My career is a priority though, but so are my
family and friends, doing good in the world, and the University of
Arizona Wildcats basketball (not necessarily in that order). When
I'm not working, which is a surprisingly healthy amount of time, I
enjoy some of the typical "guy things" like watching sports and
playing golf when the weather is nice. I also like some of the more
cultural activities, and I've been to almost every museum in DC (at
least the ones I'm interested in). I'm incredibly sarcastic but can
be sincere when it's appropriate. I think it's important to be a
good person and try to treat people well. I've gotten to the point
where my life is pretty good and I'd love to find someone special
to share it with.
What I’m doing with my life
At this very moment what I'm doing is simple: I'm trying to get my
profile up to 1,000 words to see what happens (I'm expecting bell,
whistles, fireworks, and/or skywriting) and to get OKCupid off my
back. This is just going to be a bit of stream-of-consciousness so
I'd be pretty impressed if you're still reading. Of course, I'm
also doing other things with my life, such as advancing my career,
improving myself and the world to the best of my abilities, and
enjoying all life has to offer. However, that description is not
very many words and it does not get me much closer to my kilo-word
goal. I should stop soon and see if this is 1,000 ...I'll get back
UPDATE: I appear to have reached the 1,000 word mark and it was
I’m really good at
Listening, Seinfeld trivia, making people laugh, fantasy football
...and, of course, "the five areas."
The first things people usually notice about me
If we're talking physically, then it's probably my smile. In terms
of personality, then I'd go with my sense of humor or intelligence.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I enjoy reading the classics, by which I mean things that were
written a couple thousand years ago. I also have a few of the 18th
century classics on my bookshelf. To be honest, I'm happy to read
just about anything that's not a patent (sometimes I need a break
from all that). As for movies, I've been interested in some foreign
films lately and some older movies. I've always loved anything by
I'm not a huge TV-watcher. Also, it's a little unusual, but music
isn't a huge part of my life either. My taste is pretty eclectic,
but I'll change the station very quickly if a country song comes
on. I like EDM, deal with it. As for food, I will try anything and
everything as long as it's good. I can cook, with a fair rate of
success, but I'm much better at going out to eat. I have a
reputation in my family for always ordering the best thing on the
menu. It's a lot of pressure, but I always come through.
The six things I could never do without
I honestly can do without any "thing," but I suppose I can add a
couple dozen more words by typing a few things here. I'll start
with the basics: U of AZ basketball, fantasy football, good food, a
sense of accomplishment, helping others ...and lately, the "word
count" tool on MS Word (for obvious reasons).
I spend a lot of time thinking about
1. How I can make an already good life even better.
2. How I can make an already good world even better.
3. How this is the happiest I've ever been in my life (see
4. If I'm close to 1,000 words on this profile.
5. What my fish do all day when I'm at work.
On a typical Friday night I am
The "typical" answer to this question is that there is no "typical"
Friday night. Unfortunately, I feel that's the most appropriate
answer for me too. I should just leave this blank, but it's another
opportunity to add a few more words in my efforts to reach my lofty
Anyway, as for Friday nights, I could be out with friends closing
the bars, at home watching a movie, having dinner with family, or
really anything else (aside from working). Like I said, there is no
"typical," and I hope this gets me to at least 900 words...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Jim Valvano's 1993 ESPY speech makes me cry EVERY TIME I watch it.
