My self-summary
One day I'll come up with the perfect blurb to capture my unique and multifaceted personality; one that communicates my gentleness-informed-by-strength, sense of humor, and desire to learn & grow.

Today is not that day.

I'm looking to spend time with someone smart, kind, and energetic; who keeps their curiosity alive with a healthy sense of adventure and a thirst for new experiences. Someone who can banter playfully but doesn't balk at sincerity. And who knows what 'balk' means.

So let's eat a meal or make some plans and have a conversation like real people cause why not? It could all be so simple.
What I’m doing with my life
I moved to LA from metro Detroit to work in the filmmaking and comedy business. Writing and directing is what I want to do but in the meantime I'm working various crew gigs and producing videos for a non profit.

I'll be traveling around the US at odd intervals - it would be awesome to meet up with people in other places while I'm there.

I love music but never learned to play an instrument as a kid so now I'm learning to play piano & the drums.

I'm working on carpentry lately and having a blast with it, building desks, shelves, a bed frame, and a couch. Working on a kitchen sink/counter now.

Update: the sink/counter was a goddamn disaster. Couch remains a success. On to a bedside table.

I don't hike much, but it's something I want to do with the right company; bonus points if you're willing to come with me, because I miss Michigan's beautiful natural landscape and want to get up in California's too.
I’m really good at
Listening, talking, driving, ping pong, handshakes, getting people together, building things, spirited debate, thoughtful discussion, volleyball (ok not really), swimming, getting all of the groceries into the house in one trip, making people laugh, drawing, writing, skiing, enjoying myself, triumph in the face of adversity.
The first things people usually notice about me
Lately it's my hair but for a long time it was my sense of humor and positive attitude
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm no elitist but media matters to me, I hope it does to you too so we can have those fun smiling arguments about this stuff.

Books: Harry Potter in a big way, "Slaughterhouse 5", "2001: A Space Odyssey", "Dune", the Discworld series, "The Amazing Adventures of Cavalier and Clay", stuff by David Sedaris, the 'Millennium' trilogy, The Chronicles of Narnia, some non-fiction like "Guns, Germs and Steel", some graphic novels like "Maus" and "The Walking Dead". Calvin and Hobbes. Lately I've been working through "Song of Ice and Fire".

Movies: Fight Club, Amelie, In Bruges, Billy Madison, American Beauty, Zoolander, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the animated Hobbit TV movie from 1977, The Lives of Others, Hot Rod, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, The Road Warrior, Trainspotting, Black Swan, The Dark Knight, American Psycho, Almost Heroes, There Will Be Blood, The Fall.

TV Shows: Arrested Development, Downton Abbey, Community, Sherlock, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Bored to Death, Mad Men, 30 Rock, Modern Family, Game of Thrones, True Blood, How It's Made. And don't tell anybody but I also love Millionaire Matchmaker.

Music: I find Rufus Wainwright's version of "Hallelujah" to be the superior version and when I hear "bum bum bum ba da da bum" I get excited for "Under Pressure" not "Ice Ice Baby". Like with people my musical taste is hard to explain but it's fairly specific and I know it when I see it.
The six things I could never do without
Friends and Family, my ambition, a sense of striving and progression, novelty, a creative outlet, something to read/watch
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The big stuff like Life, Death, and Infinity but little stuff like potential side projects, or whether or not my life goals are realistic and attainable or some delusional grandiose pipe dream. Whether everyone at the bar checking their phone is just trying not to look lonely. Then I check my phone.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working, at the movies, loitering on a friend's porch, at a comedy show, playing "Settlers of Catan", at home watching Netflix wishing I had something to do but not wanting to do anything, really.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm trying to learn the lessons that tragedy is teaching me, and live with joy and purpose and compassion and be better in general.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 19–38
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You're smart, creative, adventurous, and have a fun sense of humor that strays into 'goofy' from time to time. If you're not afraid. And if you have impeccable taste in men.
