My self-summary
I don't know how to summarize myself. I'm complex and full of contradictions and unique just like everybody else. I'm an extrovert until I'm not. Carefree until something gets to me. Active and outgoing and nonchalant until I think too much. Probably the way I drive says the most about who I am and it's not all good and some of it is getting worked on. And believe it or not I've got a great sense of humor. And less intense than this blurb might indicate?

I'm looking to spend time with someone smart, kind, and energetic; a girl who keeps her curiosity alive with a healthy sense of adventure and a thirst for new experiences. Someone who doesn't balk in the face of challenges or sincerity. And who knows what 'balk' means.

Casual dating is fun but ultimately I'm here hunting for girlfriend material. So let's eat a meal and have a conversation like real people cause why not? It could all be so simple.
What I’m doing with my life
I moved to LA from metro Detroit to make waves in the filmmaking and comedy business. When I'm not doing big jobs on small projects for kicks, I'm doing small jobs on big projects for money. That and corporate video gigs. So rest easy; I'm gainfully employed.

I love music but never learned to play an instrument as a kid so now I'm learning to play piano & the drums.

I'm putting a lot of time into carpentry lately. I find it invigorating and deeply fulfilling in a way that's got me worried for the sake of my career path.

I don't hike much, but it's something I want to do with the right company; bonus points if you're willing to come with me, because I miss Michigan's beautiful natural landscape and want to get up in California's too.
I’m really good at
Listening, talking, driving, ping pong, handshakes, getting people together, building things, volleyball, swimming, getting all of the groceries into the house in one trip, making people laugh, drawing, writing, skiing, enjoying myself, triumphing in the face of adversity.
The first things people usually notice about me
Lately it's my hair but for a long time it was my sense of humor and positive attitude
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm no elitist but Culture matters to me, I hope it does to you to. Just, as long as you don't like country music we'll probably be fine.

Books: "Slaughterhouse 5", "2001: A Space Odyssey", "Dune", the Discworld series, "The Amazing Adventures of Cavalier and Clay", stuff by David Sedaris, the 'Millennium' trilogy, The Chronicles of Narnia, some non-fiction like "Guns, Germs and Steel", some graphic novels like "Maus" and "The Walking Dead". Calvin and Hobbes. Lately I've been working through "Song of Ice and Fire".

Movies: Fight Club, Amelie, In Bruges, Billy Madison, American Beauty, Zoolander, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Lives of Others, Hot Rod, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, The Road Warrior, Trainspotting, Black Swan, The Dark Knight, American Psycho, Almost Heroes, There Will Be Blood, The Fall.

TV Shows (consumed in bulk via Neflix or DVD - I hate channel surfing and commercials): Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Bored to Death, Mad Men, 30 Rock, Modern Family, Lost, Game of Thrones, True Blood, Entourage, How It's Made. And don't tell anybody but I also love Millionaire Matchmaker.

Music: The Arcade Fire, Yeasayer, TV on the Radio, Modest Mouse, Sufjan Stevens, M83, Anathallo, Fleet Foxes, Interpol, Sleigh Bells, Weezer, Talking Heads, David Bowie, Bjork, Metallica, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Do Make Say Think.

Food: I know I'm the only one but I don't get down with sushi. Anything else is fair game.
The six things I could never do without
My friends, my ambition, novelty, a non work-related creative outlet, something to read, and a dog and/or cat somewhere in the mix.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The big stuff like Life, Death, and Infinity but little stuff like potential side projects, or whether or not my life goals are realistic and attainable or some delusional grandiose pipe dream. Whether everyone at the bar checking their phone is just trying not to look lonely. Then I check my phone.
On a typical Friday night I am
At the bar waiting to do comedy, at the movies, loitering on a friend's porch, at a comedy show, playing "Settlers of Catan", at home watching Netflix wishing I had something to do but not wanting to do anything, really.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Earlier in the 'favorite books' section? I should have put "Harry Potter" in there somewhere.

And then in 'favorite movies'? Yup, "Love Actually".

Which I guess is a lot like saying "I'm not going to admit anything".
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 19–38
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, activity partners
You should message me if
You're smart, creative, adventurous, and have a fun sense of humor that strays into 'goofy' from time to time. If you're not afraid. And if you have impeccable taste in men.
