My self-summary
I always like to try new things, visit unusual places, and meet interesting people. I place the most value on simple things, but there are a few luxuries that can't help but want. I enjoy lots of hobbies and my interests always seem to be expanding. I'm constantly saving money to use for travel, but whatever is left over I spend on supplies for cooking, painting, photography, and whatever else comes my way. Thankfully not everything costs too much and I am perfectly happy just listening to music, reading, exploring nature, or playing sports.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently I'm employed as a pilot, but I won't be forever.

Outside of work I do all sorts of things with my life. I try to stay busy. I'm not a huge fan of just lounging around -- don't get me wrong, though, lazy days can be great. So far my absolute favorite pass-times are skiing, cooking, making art, and exploring. I also enjoy snowboarding, surfing, scuba-diving, woodworking, photography, writing, sailing, cycling, swimming, flying, eating strange things (mostly to say that I did), and trying out new things to add to this list.
I’m really good at
keeping things in perspective.
The first things people usually notice about me
is that I'm really enjoying the party.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Reading. Tremendous. I love reading. I was en English major, but I promise not to be pretentious about literature (okay, maybe I won't promise, but I will try really hard). I enjoy mostly contemporary fiction, especially books that are written in the context of historical events (ie Atonement by McEwan and The Power of One by Courtenay to name a couple). I also dig non-fiction genres such as biography, cognitive psychology, and economics. Calvin and Hobbes is always a treat.

Movies are great, but I don't really have any stand-out favorites. ....well, maybe Dumb and Dumber. Oscar-worthy.

I love listening to music and going to concerts. Personally, I think big arena venues are a waste. But, concerts that are either in small, intimate venues or outside in the sun are the best. I love almost all music. My favorite music is indie stuff, but try to keep my stereo tuned to all sorts of stuff, with the exception of Toby Keith-type country music and uncreative hip-hop. Just a few of my favorite bands are Mumford & Sons, Miike Snow, Phoenix, Ray Lamontagne, Local Natives, Eric Hutchinson, Iron & Wine, The Kills, Kings of Leon, Maritime, Radiohead, Yeasayer, The Republic Tigers, Spoon, Tegan and Sara, and TV on the Radio. But really, that's a very incomplete list. ...I'm also known to rock out hardcore to Annie Lennox.

When I'm not listening to music, I listen to tons of podcasts such as RadioLab, This American Life, LiveWire, and TED Radio Hour. One of my favorite lazy-day-things is just stacking those podcasts into a playlist and painting.

Food's a big deal to me. I don't know of any style of cuisine that I don't enjoy if it's prepared well. If I'm not able to physically visit a place, I try to at least cook or eat its food.
The six things I could never do without
1. Family & Friends (that's all the same to me)
2. Laughter
3. Background music (something's always playing in my house)
4. Friendly debates
5. Dark chocolate
6. Spontaneous dance parties
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I guess I'm a bit of a nerd. I love thinking about plot-lines for novels that I would want to write, or about the scope/workings/existence of time and the universe.
On a typical Friday night I am
Doing anything but sitting on the couch. But, in the end, the ingredients that often remain the same are good people, music, a couple beers, and incriminating photographs (especially if there are more than a couple of beers).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I like sci-fi movies -- especially terrible ones.
