My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
As I contemplated joining this site and putting together this profile, I couldn't help but think about "The Great Gatsby" (Don't worry, initially, I found it just as odd as you do). With every attempt to put the idea of OkCupid behind me, there was Nick Carraway saying, "It was all for her". The simple fact was this literary classic just wouldn't leave my thoughts. I guess it made sense. After all, "The Great Gatsby" is a beautifully written story about a man and the great lengths that he would go to in search of the love he'd always wanted. I too, like Jay, spent a portion of my life denying my roots and trying to be something that I wasn't. And like Gatsby, I too have known a kind of love that I long to know again. So, I stopped fighting it and just gave in. I took poor Jay Gatz and his amazing story and ran with it, the way one does with inspiration.

So... here I am, with a profile that's a work in progress and always under construction, hanging out with you on OKC. It's pretty ironic too. This whole concept is the polar opposite of who I am and my personality. I love interacting with people and I'm much better in person. Needless to say, this little adventure will be interesting. Now, I know that I'm supposed to exude confidence but the truth is, I have no idea what I'm doing or if I'll be any good at it. I mean, let's just face it, that's not a male model in those photographs. It's going to take more than my pictures to have any success. And, I'm not in sales nor am I a marketing guru. I don't have the tools to catch your attention or engage your interest, I just don't. I'm new to this, I don't know the tricks of the trade. I couldn't begin to tell anyone what might make you message me or how to get you to reply to my messages. So I'm going to do the only thing I know how, swing for the fence. Here goes nothing.

We come across many characters on life's path. All kinds of kinds. Personally, I believe that when our path crosses that of another's, it's not always a coincidence. Sometimes, it's meant to be. We get to know that person, that character on a stage, and well, the special ones alter our very way of life. They become a character in our story, one of those we've known or loved along the way. Sometimes, the experience impacts us so much that we're never really the same. We're forever changed. You see, that's why I'm here. I'm just chasing that experience. I hope that by being here, maybe I've entangled your path with mine. Now, maybe, just maybe, we're on an unstoppable collision course. Maybe you show up in the next chapter of my story, maybe you're tucked away there in the pages that have yet to be written. I'd like to see you there. I love getting to know people and I'd love to get to know you. So, take a chance. It'll be worth it.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm a farmer, fisherman, and a follower. I am a new creation. I'm a servant. I am a sinner. I'm a witness. I often win by surrendering. I live by dying. I see what cannot be seen. Sometimes, I hear the inaudible. I am my strongest when I'm the weakest, I'm richest when I'm the poorest. I'm joyful in the saddest of situations. I care for those who will never care for me. I love those who hate. My home is a place I've never been. I wait for one whom I've never met.

“He smiled understandingly-much more than understandingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced--or seemed to face--the whole eternal world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey.”
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Authors: Charles Dickens, William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, Mark Twain

Books: The Old Man and the Sea, The Great Gatsby (Obviously), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, To Have and Have Not, The Sound and the Fury (I'll read anything that I can get my hands on. I have a deep rooted love for books. I'm a big fan of all the classics.)

Movies: Casablanca, Gone With The Wind, Secondhand Lions, The Shawshank Redemption, Tombstone, Twister

Music: I could talk about music for days. I'm really passionate about it. To me, it's all about the song. A good song stands alone, regardless of it's genre or the artist that delivers it. Scroll through my iPod and you'll find everything from crooners, like Frank Sinatra, to cowboys like George Strait.

Shows: The Andy Griffith Show, The Big Bang Theory, Criminal Minds, Friends, House, How I Met Your Mother, Law & Order: SVU, Mad Men, The Newsroom, Sons Of Anarchy, Sportscenter, The Walking Dead
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
- My Family (I feed off their love and support. They keep my feet on the ground and remind me of my raising.)

- My Friends (We all need a shoulder to lean on. I'm blessed. I have amazing friends.)

- Home (We all need a home to come home to. We all need a refuge.)

- Books, especially a Bible ("Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." It would be really easy to get lost without it.)

- Music (I believe we all need a good song to sing on. I wouldn't want to be without my iPod or a guitar.)

- Laughter (I wouldn't want to live in a world without laughter. Life can be hard, sometimes we just need to keep it light.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
- I spend a lot of time thinking about ways to be better. I like to think of it as ways to raise my stock. I want to be valuable. The man I see in my head, the man that I want to be, he's worth his weight in gold. That's what I'm striving for. I want to make a difference. I want to leave everything better than the way that I found it. I hope to, one day, be a best friend to the woman of my dreams. If that day comes, I sure don't want to let her down. I want to be every detail of everything that she deserves.

- I spend a lot of time thinking about ways to serve. Ultimately that's all I am, just a servant.

- I spend a lot of time thinking about... well, everything. I just spend a lot of time thinking. I think too much.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
- Deep down, I've always wanted to be a songwriter. I feel like songwriting is a part of who I am. I spend a lot of my free time trying to learn everything that I can about it.

- I have these leather journals that I write in everyday. It's pretty safe to assume that they're never too far out of reach. I keep them close by, just in case something moves me. I like to imagine my grandchildren discovering them, in some old, dusty attic, long after I'm gone. I hope they'd feel a sense of pride with every page they turned. I hope they'd be inspired. Ultimately, I hope they'd have a better understanding of my time here, the man I was, and the life I chose to live. I can't stand the thought of anything being lost. Those fleeting moments, the ones that shape our souls, they deserve to live forever, so I document them. In those journals you'll find characters that I've met, conversations that I've had, places that I've been to, people that I've loved, things that I hate, and things that I adore. They mostly just serve as a record of my experiences, ideas, and thoughts. I'm not sure if there's anything in them that anyone else would care about but I pour my heart onto those pages, they tell the story of my life.
