I am a movie lover, podcast addict (film, humor, Radiolab),
copywriter, grammar geek, and a mother. I got divorced within the past year so I am doing the half-time single-mom thing.
What I am looking for: new friends, trivia buddies, fellow movie
lovers. Let's have some fun and lively and involving conversations.
Bonus points for you if your profile photo does NOT look like someone just told you you're being evicted, and/or you are NOT wearing an expression that says, "Your hide would make a fine poncho!" (Double bonus points if you caught that last reference.)
I am, at heart, an optimist about the world. I believe that if we
each try to make life a little more positive, and treat each other
with basic decency and civility, humankind will be okay. There is a
sad dash of realism -- I know that there are many parts of the
world in which life is awful for some people, but I am
hopeful that as time goes by humanity as a whole will grow
I deeply appreciate beauty in unexpected forms and places, revel in
witty banter, and think that people who rely on spell check are
just asking for treble (see?). Fleeting moments are treasures
to me: a wild bird landing on my fingertips to eat from my hand;
sunbeams lancing down between giant stones into a warm grotto; the first bite of a handmade sea-salt caramel; seeing my child doing something generous and loving.
I want to drink deeply from life, and get to the end of it with as
few regrets as possible over things I didn't do.
What I'd like to be doing with my life:
While I'm not as fit as I'd like to be (is there any exercise that's fun? That I can do in my house?) I've earned two black belts in my lifetime, and once threw a guy who was 6'8" (203cm). I'd like to get back into fighting condition at some point.
TV shows: Love my Hulu Plus and Netflix Streaming. Firefly, Mythbusters, Rome, BSG, Archer, Spaced; anime includes Bleach, Samurai Champloo, and the delightfully pervy Ouran High School Host Club. Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones seem like two sides of a coin to me, both of which I love.
Food: Bacon, French toast, home fries, chocolate-chip and French toast bagels, General Gau/Tso/Tsao chicken, chicken tikka masala, naan, steak, garlic mashed potatoes, sweet-potato fries, steamed broccoli, carrots sauteed in olive oil, tiny roasted potatoes, cheesecake, chocolate-chip cookies, ice cream, and more. I was spoiled by a good cook in the last few years and have come to appreciate careful and artistic food preparation.
Music: I just watched Soderbergh's "Solaris" for the second time and fell in love with the soundtrack all over again. I'm a fan of electric-guitar blues, soul, funk, classical, opera, and goofy indie bands like Barenaked Ladies, Cake, and They Might Be Giants. I'm partial to anyone with rust in his/her voice (e.g., Macy Gray), or with powerhouse pipes (Adele). I think Prince is a musical genius. A bit of a fruit loop, but a genius fruit loop. I love Bob Dylan as a songwriter, hate him as a performer. I realize I have just blasphemed, musically speaking. C'est la vie.
Podcasts: F This Movie, Film Sack, Hollywood Babble-On, The Morning Stream, 99% Invisible, Radiolab, Savage Love, Skeptoid, The Nerdist, This Week with Larry Miller, We Hate Movies, Yeah It's That Bad, and 2 Homos.
Movies: I saved this for last, as movies are a Big Thing for me. The list is in no particular order.
The Blues Brothers, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Pride and Prejudice (the Olivier-Garson version), Angel Heart, A Room with a View, 300, The Prestige, Shall We Dance? (Japanese version), Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, Casino Royale (2006), Triangle, Thirst, Jacob's Ladder, Dogma, Highlander, The Fountain, X-Men First Class, The Matrix, Serenity, Dark City, Inception, District 9, The Fall, Out of Sight, Yojimbo, and new addition The Cabin in the Woods.
I can swim, but I cannot dive. Never got the trick of it.
