My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
These always start out the same where I say that I am down to earth, laid back, good, no drama guy. There are a bunch of us.

I am a south side Chicagoan and grew up on my own, much older brothers, in some pretty tough areas. We and I moved around a lot. My parents divorced when I was really young. This has made me pretty self sufficient and independent. So, I expect you to be independent too. I am not a big texter or talk on phone for hours guy. Few guys are, right?

My challenging childhood has also made me a liberal because my family and those around us, good people, often needed help to get by in life. So, if you think there are makers and takers and agree with Fox News, we are probably not a match.

I did spend a lot of time in Catholic school and was an altar boy. I can't say that I am very religious though. I believe in a higher power, but do not agree with the intolerance and judging of the "religious". So, if you are a Christian and believe the Bible is the literal word of God and He micromanages our lives, then we are probably not a good match. If you are a raving Atheist that will mock me for what I do believe, that won't work either. Some of the smartest, nicest, and best people that I know are Atheists.

I really enjoyed going to a very tough academic college in Chicago. I have varying interests in philosophy, science, English, history, politics, art, etc. The joys of a liberal arts education. I enjoy discussing ideas and current topics. I hope that you do too.

I have a demanding job in technology that keeps me busy and engaged. I would likely mostly have time on the weekends to go out and will like to schedule time. I expect you to be employed and busy too, that just makes things easier for us both.

I am divorced over a year now. I try to spend as much time as my teenage daughters allow with them. It is tough. I wish the divorce was amicable, but few are really. I have an acceptable amount of baggage. We are adults, you probably have some too and are not perfect.

I am a middle aged, bald, divorced guy, so I am at my personal best. Ha. I love Louis C.K. and I think that it is because I kind of relate to him.

I do not believe in soul mates. I think Hollywood and romance novels have stuffed crazy, unrealistic, and idealized images into our head. Reality is richer and more complex. I believe that there are multiple people out there in the world that we can become close to and love and that are worth loving. I believe that all relationships require work, forgiveness, and caring even with a soul mate.

Online dating is quite interesting. It is the electronic version of animal mating rituals with many guys preening, posing, and pursuing a potential mate. The female having a pick of quite a few men, rejecting many solicitations. Then some sort of magic has to happen where the female feels like the guy is good looking enough and the guy feels like the female is good looking enough to meet and not crazy. It is some weird calculation we do in our head to see if the potential partner is a genetic improvement, your type based on some childhood memories, or offers security. Yes, girls look at the pictures and no matter how cool the guy's profile is, if he is ugly, that first contact is not happening. Unless you are Donald Trump, then there are other attributes involved.

I am a paladin (Galahad type) at heart, but wearied by the injustice in the world and the realities of life. It is hard to be idealistic into your 40's. I would like to go out on dates. I would love friends first. I would open doors for you and pay attention to you when with you. I am not looking to marry again any time soon. It seems like we identify successful relationships just by how they end up, marriage. That is silly.

I was going to make this profile self-summary smaller this time. On well. Fail.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am working really hard at my job. It is what I am good at and feel comfortable doing. I am passionate about it. It requires travel and a lot of dedication. It spills out beyond M-F, 9-5.

I am working on rebuilding my relationship with my teenage daughters. As if being a teenager was not a challenging enough time for them, they have suffered from a lot of change. I think it will be change for the better, for them, for me, and for my ex. However, change is difficult.

I am working on myself. I am working on living life and taking time out to enjoy it more. I work too hard.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
My job. Listening to people. Caring about others. Writing. I probably write better than I communicate verbally.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I am not sure. I will have to ask you later.
My easy smile. I do smile a lot.
I have broad shoulders.
Dark Italian features. I am the anti-ginger.
Really high forehead, er balding.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I am fairly well read having graduated from an ivy league school as an English major. Now, I read mainly for work, non-fiction, etc. I have not read a novel in a long time. I work in technology.

Movies: I love movies. This list would be very long. If you want to know more about me, rent "Millers Crossing" and study Gabriel Byrne's Irish Mob consigliere character. I also have these on my favorites list: Fargo, The God Father, The God Father II, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Shawshank Redemption, Inception, Star Wars IV and V, The Matrix, . . .

Music: I am a creature of the 80's. So, this means that I have no taste in music. I love bad 80's music and much better 90's music. The specific artists include: The Talking Heads, Nirvana, NIN, Peter Gabriel, King Missile, Weezer, Bloodhound Gang, eminem, and the Beastie Boys. Where is rock music today?

Food: I love Italian (I am 1/2 Italian ancestry), Thai, Sushi, and Indian food. I love spice, some heat, as well as subtle combinations. I really like all good food, fresh ingredients, and I eat it all. I am a wanna be foodie. If you like frozen (besides frozen peas) or canned vegetables, than we just might not hit it off. I love to cook and especially cook Italian. Maybe I could make you dinner sometime?

Shows: Breaking Bad is amazing. I miss it. Morning Jo. The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. The comedy of Louis C.K. and Lewis Black. I enjoy all the competitive cooking shows and the Food Channel. I have a man crush on Anthony Bourdain. I am still a big fan of Survivor and Amazing Race. Maybe we can team up on the Amazing Race and yell at each other the entire way? Fun. I hate any "Real" Housewives type of reality show following "real" people with allegedly "real" problems. "Hoarders" makes me anxious.

Radio: NPR and Progressive Talk.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I am a simple man. I really do not need much, except what every human needs food, water, air, shelter, and friends. What is important to me or I enjoy most . . .

- My Daughters
- Family
- Good food
- Internet
- Travel
- Beaches
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I don't spend a lot of time thinking about many of these. They are just interesting thoughts that I am putting out there.

I applaud all the people who have the courage to put themselves out there with revealing, honest profiles with pictures.

I wonder why there are so many fake profiles with shots of other women from the internet on dating sites? Shy women? Women or men catfishing?

How can I improve my relationship with my teenage daughters?

How can anything last forever?

Why do celebrities even bother to get married and then why do they even bother getting divorced again? Just stay together and you can both keep having affairs. Maybe it is for the great weddings and likely for the children they are having?

Why do so many people stick their nose into other people's business, e.g. celebrities, and then judge the other person without knowing them or much about what actually happened?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Visiting my mom in nursing care, going to a movie, or catching up with whats on the DVR. Lame I know. That is why I am on here.

My social circle has narrowed over the years as I focused on the family. My ex got the house and the friends. I am really looking for a new network of friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I am not as big a jerk and unromantic as this profile makes me seem. I am kind of hurt and vulnerable, like most people.

I have watched and liked Honey Boo Boo. I think the family communicates really well to each other. They communicate better than my family. That is embarrassing to admit.

If you think that I am the best preening and posing male that is just right for you. In other words, you find me attractive enough and/or interesting enough and hopefully you live close to the Western suburbs to just say "hi" or favorite me. You can't drop a handkerchief or bat your eyes online and I am not going to pray and spray a bunch of emails out there. So, give me a sign.

I will post better pictures sometime. With these pics you can be assured there was no Photoshop involved and I am not catfishing with those pics. I am real.
