My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm one of those assholes who looks forward to going to work, because I legitimately enjoy my job. I work in software engineering. When I decided I wanted to do it, I pictured programming to be something like in hacker movies. But 17-year-old me was wrong, as he was wrong about almost everything. It turns out it's almost all math. Luckily, it also turns out that I really like math. It leads me to think that I would probably have enjoyed any line of work I ended up in, like some manner of career-slut. o_O
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
So I recently, at the tender age of 28, graduated college with two bachelor's degrees. I do contracting work as a software architect now. Don't feel like you have to pretend to be interested in that, I've long since come to terms with the fact that no one but me think this kind of stuff is cool. :-)
I ultimately want to go back to school and get my doctorate. My dream job would be working for a university doing Artificial Intelligence research.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I have some manner of chair-leg seeking device in my pinky toe. As a result I have an uncanny ability to jam my pinky toe into chair legs and similar objects quite consistently. Certainly my most painful talent. I also have a weird habit of committing poems to memory without meaning to. Go on, ask me how Sonnet 18, The Raven, The Bells, In The Desert, or The Jabberwocky go, because for some reason I can tell you.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
This is a section I legitimately have no idea how to answer. If there's something about me you initially noticed, feel free to tell me about it so I finally understand. Since I have no useful answer to the section's intent, I shall instead post an unrelated anecdote.

Once, while on a date with a girl from this very site, I tried to break into a petting zoo at about one in the morning. I wanted to pet some goats and stuff, but they were closed. It also turns out they don't keep the animals on site at one in the morning. Probably the smart thing to do, that.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I have a thing for very caustic humor, so a movie or TV show where people are very sarcastic and witty usually does it for me. Think Archer and Firefly.
My taste in music is very much "Loud, angry, rock and roll" with little interest in anything else. Think Tool or Rise Against. Unless I'm drunk, then I'll rock out to some Lady Gaga or Pink.
As for food, my diet consists mostly of chicken and fruits and veggies.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I've become a total technology junky, and could never live without my phone (1) or an internet connection (2). I've also become a bit paranoid, probably due to my time in the military, as a result of which I'm very unhappy if I'm not carrying my firestarter (3), multitool (4), and baton (5). I don't even really know how to use the firestarter, I just feel better having it! Not really sure where else to go with this without resorting to the "food/water/oxygen" trope, so I guess I'll go with the picture of my niece that I keep in my wallet (6).
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
In uni I tried to develop a technique for training a certain type of artificial intelligence by mimicking natural selection. It didn't work, and I often find myself thinking about things I could have done differently that might have gotten me useful results.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
It can vary pretty heavily. Sometimes I decide to be one of the cool kids and go clubbing or whatever. I have a friend that is always pestering me to host parties, although at the last one a friend got very drunk and started puking on the carpet in one of the spare bedrooms, so I'm a little gunshy on that right now.
On the other extreme, sometimes I'll geek out and play video games with my friends until the wee hours of the morning. I often don't know which I'll be doing Friday afternoon.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Well hell, I'm more-or-less an open book. I don't have a whole lot of things worth keeping secret. I make myself sound smarter than I am. Is that private? How about this: I lost my virginity at 20. I certainly USED to be self-conscious about that, though I've long since gotten over it. I dunno, man, if you're curious, ask. I don't have much of anything to hide.
