I am curious, high energy, and optimistic.

My Self-Summary

After a very long term relationship I find myself single again. I’ve had time for the prerequisite introspection and “rebound” relationship, allowing me to be comfortable in my skin as to who I am and where I’m going next. I have been domesticated but still maintain a wild hair of spontaneity and unpredictability. I have always understood the value of opening doors, pulling out chairs and the unexpected bouquet of flowers.
I have always been attracted to women who are intelligent, independent, athletic and have spunk. If you’re looking for a tattooed Harley type, I don’t fit that mold. I am a bit of a maverick and have walked to the beat of a different drummer all my life. But that should not be interpreted to mean there is lack of empathy and caring. My vision allows me look at things a little differently and ask why so many follow the beaten path without questioning the conventional wisdom of it all.
I have always been competitive and participated in athletics of one type or another. I take great delight in beating up on guys half my age on the basketball court, feeling like a young lion again…until the following day when my knees remind me that I’m well into my forties. While I would like to consider myself on the intellectual side of the continuum, the older I get and the more I learn and experience, the more I realize how much there is to learn and experience.

What I’m doing with my life

Making it the best that I can. Balancing work, family and fun, while keeping my eye on the future.

I’m really good at

I'm really good at being a friend, at engaging people in conversation, at listening, cooking, and making margaritas. I'm really good with children and animals, at being competitive, spontaneous, empathetic and nurturing. I'm really good at being angered by social injustice and not being afraid to voice my opinion. I am also really good at tennis, basketball, racquetball, skiing and Frisbee.

The first things people usually notice about me

that I smile with my eyes, that I have a large personality, that my laugh is infectious and comes from deep down inside.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

My last favorite book was Imperial Life in the Green Zone. While I can't recall a recent movie that I could label a favorite, I did become addicted to HBO's Deadwood, Rome, and I am currently a huge fan of TrueBlood, Showtime's Dexter and my newest guilty pleasure...Californication. Music wise I prefer alternative rock followed by jazz, Miles Davis, Horace Silver, Diana Krall and my favorite female vocalist Claire Martin. Food wise, flavor and spice rule my world, Mexican, Thai, Mediterranean, Asian...a blackened rib eye. It’s all good.

The six things I could never do without

1.A sense of optimism
2.The love of my daughters
3.The ability to be active
4.Pesto
5.Salted and roasted almonds
6.Spell check

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The future, the past, and everything in between.

On a typical Friday night I am

I can't say that I have a "typical" Friday night

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm not even going there...ok here's something, I have an orange fetish. Not the fruit and not in a sexual way, the color! Not a pastel or sherbert orange, but a bright, jump up and notice me orange...flame orange, California poppy orange, Cal Trans orange. I don't wear orange as a rule, but I have more than few items around my place and in the kitchen that are. Maybe it's a hold over from my childhood in the 70's when it was the "in" color and all the rage.
