My self-summary
I am not like most people. I like it that way. I don't quite fit into any group, though I may, at times, be found among a variety of themed groups, such as: academics, hippies, primitivists, farmers, anarchists, Jews, etc. I identify as a foodie and a gardener, which are not really groups, but something more like values which one can have in addition to others.

I'm friendly and polite and generally treat people with respect. Sometimes I'm funny. Sometimes I'm quiet. Sometimes I have strong opinions about relevant issues.

I store a lot of information in my brain. Sometimes people refer to me as an encyclopedia. It's hard to keep it all in there. The informations are always trying to run away.

I love my friends and family, even if they're as weird as I am. I'd like to meet a weird lady friend. She doesn't have to be weird, but it might help.
What I’m doing with my life
I recently got a masters degree in ecological restoration. I just started teaching at Santa Fe, and it's a much bigger challenge than I expected, but I'm doing it. I also put a lot of work into various projects for fun mostly. One of the main ones I've dedicated much of my available time to over the years is the Edible Plant Project. It's a nonprofit I manage that propagates and distributes food plants that are appropriate for the area and not generally available from other sources. Here's the website:

I'm also doing a little restoration project at a friend's house, and can always use a hand clearing oak saplings.
I’m really good at
Plants like me. They grow big and pretty when I'm around. I'm good at making plant babies, identifying plants, telling people which wild plants they can eat. I give great massages. I'm pretty good at cooking; at least the 2 dozen or so recipes I've got down. I'm famous around the pot-luck circuit for my pumpkin pies and cobblers. I make my pot-luck contributions vegan so that all the guests can eat them. I write political satire that I read occasionally at open mic nights, and have a bit of a following. I'm getting pretty good at foraging for wild mushrooms.
The first things people usually notice about me
my giant hat. It's not a fashion statement, I just spend a lot of time in the sun and like to protect myself from it.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Favorite movie is Pickaxe. No, it's not a horror movie, well it does show some horrible stuff. It's a documentary about ecodefense in the Pacific NW, focussing on the Warner Creek road blockade, which successfully defended a designated wilderness area from beign converted into a plantation. Anyway, someone put it on youtube, so catch it while it's there. I highly recommend you do:

I don't have a TV, so I miss a lot of shows, but I try to keep up with a few on Hulu, like the Daily Show/Colbert, revolution, and prisoners of war (also loved Firefly, Jeremiah, and the booth at the end.)

My music tastes are varied and scarce. Out of almost any genre, I like at least a song or two, but I dislike most of what gets on the radio. I like some folky activist music like Lars Din and David Rovics, as well as some normal popular stuff. I loved the old Metallica, back in highschool, but wasn't impressed with the newer stuff.

I love food. I like healthy stuff especially. I try to eat a lot of local stuff and sometimes try to grow a lot of it myself, but that takes a lot of time. I like nearly all ethnic food (Indian, Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Italian, Mediterranean, etc.). I detest the over-processed corporate garbage that passes for the "American" culinary tradition. I observe some of the kosher laws, so I won't eat meat in restaurants, no shellfish or catfish, and I'm allergic to dairy.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
the environment
the future
public policy
what I'm making for dinner
what I'm going to plant next and other projects
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I just decided that I have to downgrade myself from Athletic to Average. I haven't hardly been able to get to the gym since I started teaching, and I wasn't as frequent as I should have been before that. I don't like this, and I intend to turn it around soon.
