intuitive, independent, and empathetic
My self-summary Propose an edit
I guess I tend to be a bit of an idealist. I love playing in the
world of ideas and
possibilities. I seek patterns and
interrelations in things. And I can't live without context.
I have a deep appreciation of the intrinsic value of humanity, and
the unique gifts of the individual. I cherish diversity in all
aspects of the world, and delight in seeing and bringing out the
best in people.
I am also interested in expanding vision, and pushing beyond the confines
of what people normally see to a broader perspective of the world.
So often I think the challenge is in the focus on a problem, and if
we can take a moment to re-frame and rethink the problem, we may
just move beyond it to a point where the horizon opens up.
When we had to do an exercise on core values in class, I
immediately knew my one core value was integrity. Figuring out which other
seven to choose was what was hard for me. So being honest with myself and others is
kinda important.
Which is not to say I don't enjoy well planned surprises and schemes designed to delight. It also doesn't
mean I'm out there with my entire life story two minutes after you
meet me. It can take a little time to really get to know me, but
it's worth it.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I've started graduate school, and love it. I'm in the process of
making some pretty big changes in my life, and finding them fitting
like a glove. I'm very happy with the choices I've made and the
direction I'm moving.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
It's interesting. When people first meet me, they tend to think I'm
sweet and innocent and traditional. They don't think that after
they get to know me. At least not the innocent and traditional
part.
Also, for some unknown reason people keep thinking I am a
vegetarian. No. I have helped butcher chickens.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Many, many, many books. Knee Deep in Thunder has been a favorite
since childhood. Authors I love to read include: Sharon Shinn,
Robin McKinley, Sheri Tepper, Octavia Butler, Ursula LeGuin,
Madeline L'Engle, William Gibson, Kurt Vonnegut, C.J. Cherryh and
many more.
There's some odd old films, whose titles I can't recall, which
stick in my head from film studies classes. Of course there are the
classics: Nosferatu, Metropolis, Repo Man. Monty Python and Terry
Gilliam, Hitchcock and Scorsese. And I can't forget Rashomon.
Music runs the gamut from Blues to House. I love Billy Holiday and
Zero Seven, Bonnie Raitt and Bauhaus. I even enjoy classical. There
are a few things I have a tough time tolerating. For instance, I
would rather listen to fingernails scraping chalkboards than bad
cheesy boy bands for the most part.
Mmmmmm, chocolate. Okay, yes, there are other food groups and I
enjoy them as well. I like good food of all sorts, though I have
some weirdness with textures. For instance, I like slices of tomato
on my sandwiches, etc, yet do not like chunks of tomato in my
salad. Because of this, I can only eat really good sushi.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Never is pretty emphatic. I can do without most things for short
periods of time. And none of us could do without air, water or food
for very long. So in the interest of answering the intent of the
question (which is probably what is really important to you) I'll
choose:
People I love in my life
Intelligent conversation
A sense of wonder
Beauty
Compassion
Integrity
then again, there's always the cell phone and the dual screen
Mac...
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Systems; how things and people interact, communication, how I can
learn more from my experiences, how things work, what motivates
people, "ooo, pretty."
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Typical? I do not have a M-F work, then it's the weekend schedule
so it could be:
Working
Studying
Spending time with friends
Reading
Traveling
Meditating
Doing Laundry
or any of a large number of things that keep me busy.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
My mother recently told me I am post-modern and a complex person.
You should message me if Propose an edit
You're interested in getting to know me better as a person, you
like ideas and interesting conversation, and have a positive
outlook on life.
And please live within a reasonable distance. Being in graduate
school means I'm not particularly interested in pen pals.
I'm more likely to respond if you have something thought provoking
to share in your message.
