My self-summary

username: Hamachi. That's been my name online since May 1987... only now it's gradually changing to Hamachisn't.

If you happen to be new here (on OKc), before bothering with my profile, I highly recommend you click here to learn how to use this site well.

DCMerlin has also written a guide that I've only begun to check out but I'll give you a link to it anyway:

There is a bug on the site that will sometimes lose part of your essays or journal. I recommend to everyone here: keep a copy of your profile in case they lose some of it!

Dulu Hamachi mendengerkan musik (gamelan Bali), jadi suka-suka...

Jadi Hamachi mulai belajar bahasa Indonesia/Melayu --> jadi cari kamus Indonesia -> cari satu lagi, satu lagi -> -> -> coba liat http://www.angelfire.com/space/hamachi/images/kamus.jpg :) (I tried putting a link to that photo here but Angelfire refuses to show it if you click on that. Must enter the address directly; it won't work if you just click)

What I'm doing with my life

loving it. The best thing someone CAN do with their life.

And more recently: Bringing my career back to where it belongs. On my off hours, I'm trying to help out jjatag (yeah, he's on OKc too) with the computer business we started in early 06.

Sometimes to relax, I attend drumming circles. J has taken to drumming too, so we go together.

At work, they hired a new manager (in the beginning of October) to be my direct supervisor (well, for me and maybe a dozen others). He's really awesome, and he & I have been getting along great. He's my newest friend. Well, he and his wife also drum! :) So the four of us have all been drumming together at various events. It's great!

UPDATE: ...and he just joined OKc! Hiya Ben! :)

OkCupid: Now in Indonesian!
lagi kerja setelah lama coba kerjaan yg baik. (programer komputer nih).

I'm really good at

music, art/craft, logic, math. NOT necessarily in that order. Then again, if you're an artist (or musician) for real, you'd think I'm pretty weak at art (or music). Let's say, better than the average layman.

I'm also starting to think I'm not a bad cook, considering I'm pretty new to the field. Not terribly experienced, but I have a good sense for what would go together well. For example, cranberry sauce and coffee. Who'd'a thunk they would work well together? Yet they do. (Note: this was cranberry sauce that I made myself, without sugar or any sweetener)

Then again, now that I work by day, I come home and cooking is again the last thing I wanna do. That was bound to happen, but ya know? I don't mind. It's good to work again. :)

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

Not that people would particularly notice my eyes, but they're not your average run-of-the-mill eyes. Yeah, they're brown, but not the usual dark brown. Sort of a medium brown with a dark ring around the outer iris edge. Whatever; they're EYES. They see, and that's why I love them.

Back when I had my tail, that was definitely the thing to write about here. But now that I'm detailed, the choice is not so obvious. The black eye is gone now, so what to write here? Hey Ben... you met me not that long ago. Any ideas?

I didn't think it would be the eyes... everyone says eyes in here. Maybe the teeth that broke when they had just started growing in.

Weleh!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Fiction: The Lathe of Heaven (Ursula K Leguin)

- Nonfiction: Ring of Fire (Laurence Blair with Lorne Blair)

Movies: Ikiru. It's one of my favorite movies. Akira Kurosawa was (in my opinion) great! I like all his films that I've seen so far. I also love "The Lathe of Heaven" (not to be confused with the crummy remake, called "Lathe of Heaven" (without the "The"). It's the movie that made me go out and get the book, and look what happened there...^

Music: nearly any kind of music. It's easier to tell what music I don't like than what I do like.

I once discovered http://musicovery.com, and have every genre selected except metal, latino, vocal pop, and pop. Back then, I had the mood selector all the way to the left and about 2/3 of the way to the bottom from the middle... and the music was suiting me nicely. Guess that was my mood right then. But that didn't last long. I'm back to browsing either without music, or with a CD or some song picked out to play many times.

Foods: Duck, Mango, Avocado. Should I add naan to this list? Oh, probably not. Same goes for bread pudding. (sigh)

Cuisines: French or anything Asian, particularly Japanese or Thai or Indonesian or Indian. Yumby!

I have a sweet tooth which I need to eliminate... but I've been being reasonably good about keeping the carbohydrates down, and I feel a lot better as a result. I got my brain back!

Oh, but I discovered a while back that I really love pancakes too! Brownies and pancakes, those are what I crave these days. And French toast, acorn & butternut squash. Alas, I can only eat that stuff once a month, and generally only after I'm full from a low-carb, high-protein and high-fiber meal. But one time I ate pancakes that were so good it brought tears to my eyes! Woo! I'll have to get 'em again at that place; they were reallllllly good pancakes.

Sigh... even the monthly-binge rule has gone all to hell, as I proceed to eat carbs whenever I want to, as long as I don't have too much.

So how was Pierre's? You gonna be mourning their imminent closure alongside me? (sigh) I'm glad you got to eat there once, at least.

OkCupid: Now in Indonesian!
buku: kalau cerita saja, "The Lathe of Heaven" yg ditulis Ursula K. LeGuin. Kalau bener, "Ring of Fire" yg ditulis Lawrence Blair (dengan Lorne Blair).

pilm: ada dua: "The Lathe of Heaven" (BUKAN "Lathe of Heaven" saja!) dan "Ikiru" yang pilm Jepang.

musik: hampir semua musik!

makanan: mangga, bebek, alpukat (ngga manis)

masakan: nyammmmmi! Suka masakan Perancis dan Asia... Indonesia, Jepang, Thailand.....

The six things I could never do without

"The SIX things I could never do without:", thank you very much! (Note to those new to OKc: there was a time when this question would sometimes change to "what I think about while masturbating", but they kept the same answers that we'd given to the six things we could never do without. I haven't seen that other question appear for a while now, but that doesn't mean it won't ever show again.)

figuratively: music, art, culture. Friends. Animals.

literally: Food, air, water, warmth

What else? Friends, intellectual and emotional stimulation... and uh... yes I can count! But I can also go outside the border, if said border is too confining.

Something that I could but don't want to live without, is music. Music to hear, instruments to play. And a good warm cuddle at times. J's really good for that :)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

These days? I try and juggle schedules to do everything I want to do in what little time I have these days. Weekends fill up awfully quickly, so I try and do things in the evenings (but that requires keeping it down to around 2 hours a night, so I can get to bed on time).

At work, I think about fire alarm systems and how they work and how I can make them better. And how to test them without causing real fires ;)

The Game was just an idea of having some fun in private in public. (huh?) Well, the players would know what's going on and everyone else would read but shrug it off in a confused way. Very few people on here have any idea who the other player is. If he decides to play at all. If not, that's cool too; we've got other means of communication.

Incidentally, what good is your USB stick (one of the 6 things you could never do without), without a machine to read/write that same stick?
OkCupid: Now in Indonesian!
Mau paling tiduran |) Juga saya mau bikin banyak tetapi kapan bisa?

Dikantor saya pikir tentang sistem alarm api, bagaimana mereka melakukan tugasnya, dan bagaimana saya bisa membuat perbaikan mereka.

On a typical Friday night I am

"chatting on IRC... sometimes in English, sometimes in Indonesian." --- well, that was the OLD old answer. Then there's the not-quite-as-old answer: "But these days, Fridays are as different as any other day.

Life is great.

Hmmmmm, you know, I'm not really sure I have a routine these days.

Last Friday night I spent time on here, played some stupid computer games like solitaire, minesweeper, ingenious... and I went out to do a little shopping. Picked up some exmas lights to light up the living room for parties (we have a couple of friends who keep exmas lights in their living room all year round and it makes for such a nice cozy atmosphere!) Also picked up most of the ingredients to make some REAL eggnog, quite unlike the stuff they pass of as gnog in the cardboard cartons in the store. No, the real stuff is great, and J just found a recipe recently that looks fantastic! I'm really looking forward to making some & trying it. (Using much less sugar than the recipe calls for... but then again, even the recipe with full sugar doesn't really have that much carbage to it. I'll have to try it with full sugar and 1/3 sugar, and see which one's better.)

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I'm very open one-on-one, but aside from our little computer-service business I have nothing to advertise to the world. I'll answer just about any personal question you want to ask, though.

Oh, here! This is something I can add here:

I don't want to hear about anyone named God. If you feel a need to talk about your God, then please don't talk to me. Far too many people confuse the words "spiritual" and "religious". I am not and have never been Christian, and I don't care to start now either. If you absolutely MUST talk about your god, please find someone else to talk with; leave me out of it.

Fair warning! I will terminate our chat or ignore your message if I see that three-letter word in it. The word "Jesus" counts, as well. And if I see it in your profile because it's so important that you include it in everything that you do, I probably won't want to talk with you either.

(Stepping down off the soapbox)

You should message me if

...you think we'd be compatible... especially if you like math/science, art/music... It's also preferable if your IQ has 3 digits.

...you like drum circles and either live in this area or are willing to come out this way some time to drum.

Then again, you should not message me if you don't have a profile set up on here yet, or if you haven't answered at least some 100 or 200 questions. Here it is, some incentive for OKc newbies to make this site work for them! Good luck.

And don't bother writing if you can't be bothered to read my profile first. Then again, if you didn't read my profile, you didn't read this either. Um... well ignorance is no excuse; that suggestion still stands. But it's a bad idea to say you read my profile if you haven't. MY PHOTOS ARE NOT MY PROFILE! They are only a minor part of my profile. Believe me, if you haven't read it, it shows.

One good way to show that you have read the profile (mine or anyone's) would be to mention something that you saw in it. Don't just say "I liked your profile", or "I read all of your favorite books and loved them". Say which one of them you liked best, or something like that. But you should know that already; you shouldn't need me to tell you that.

...And if you do feel so moved as to write to me, please don't call me "dear" or "darling" or "honey" or any bullshit like that if you don't know me really well. Or rather, if I don't know you really well. It's so, um, condescending! I'll also ignore your message if you call me something like that.

It also helps if you know English... as in, spelling, grammar, punctuation. Now, I admit that I sometimes deliberately misspell a word or three in jest. For example, I wrote "Iota" instead of "I ought to" up above... But at least I know the correct spelling! (Note: people from other countries, to whom English is a foreign language, are excused from this, for the most part. I don't expect them to use perfect grammar or spelling.)
