My Notes edit
My self-summary
Inga says I have a few mistakes that need fixing. Apparently my essay needs to be a couple of sentences longer. Let's see if this will appease the okcupid gods.
I'm originally from Kansas City, MO (go Chiefs and Royals!) and am now living in Huntsville, AL. I moved down here to take a job after I graduated from UMR with a BS in Computer Engineering. My work payed for me to get a Masters degree in Software Engineering...and I got to go to class during work hours, double score! :P
First and foremost though, I'm a gamer. Have been as long as I can remember, and always will be. My current obsession is WoW, and FFXI before that. Being an MMO fan is annoying sometimes because it takes time away from playing "real" video games. >< I'm also into "low tech" PnP RPGs (D&D), tabletops (BattleTech) and CCGs (Magic:tG) though I haven't played a serious game of any in awhile.
I'm a huge tech geek. I try and keep up with the latest news and trends with computers and gadgetry. I love new "stuff" in general; I love opening up a new piece of hardware and taking the first smell from the sealed box, mmmm so good, haha. :P I get excited when a new version of software that I use comes out just so I can play around with it. Yes, yes, I know! >_>
I love spending time watching movies and TV, or just sitting back and listening to music with my eyes closed. I used to play trumpet and french horn (1st chair!) in a band so I have the extra bit of music-appreciation that comes with that. I used to be into anime a bit, though now that I'm out of college I don't really have the time to sift through the ridiculous number of new shows all the time to figure out what is actually worth watching.
I feel that expanding your mind is important; I try and learn something new everyday. Sometimes when I visit Wikipedia, I'll lose hours and hours because of all the interesting cross-linking... This comic pretty much describes it perfectly: http://xkcd.com/214/
I really want to dedicate myself to loving the woman that is most special to me in the world; I haven't found her yet though!
What I'm doing with my life
The other 16 hours of the day I'm probably playing games, or watching movies or TV! (This is the important part :P)
I've also recently started working out a bit. The building muscle kind, not the losing weight kind. If I lost weight I think I would probably die. :( It's going alright, or better than I'd hoped for at least. And surprisingly, a lot more fun than I thought it'd be, haha.
I'm really good at
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Movies: Where to start? In no particular order: anything sci-fi, Star Wars (even enjoyed 1&2, guess I'm a hopeless fanboy), Trek, LOTR (so epic), Spidermen (who doesn't want super powers?), X-Men (and again), The Matrix(1) (this is like the ultimate computer nerd movie), Apollo 13 (it's full of stars), The Last Samurai (katanas and ninjas), Pulp Fiction (Tarantino, 'nuff said), Ghostbusters (dogs and cats living together), Saving Private Ryan (give the rear speakers a workout), MST3k stuff (...of Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace) ...should stop there before this gets too long I suppose :P
TV: What I'm watching now: Battlestar Galactica, Lost, 24, Scrubs, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, The Office. I haven't decided if watching these serialized shows and their evil cliffhangers is better if you get to watch them right when they air so you can talk about them and speculate, or just wait a year for them to come out on DVD and watch them all at once!
Music: I've never really explored indie music so I guess most of the bands I like are pretty mainstream. I like classic rock and classical (epic movie scores) mostly. Some JPop also. Absolutely cannot stand rap (not music) and country (that whiny fiddle sound seriously hurts my ears >_>). To name one, I recently discovered Nightwish, which is a combination of classical and metal with a female lead singer, very awesome sound.
Food: Living by myself for so long and [not being able/being too lazy] to cook means I all the food I eat is microwaved, which has probably killed my taste buds. I used to love my mom's home cooked spaghetti though! But I'm not too picky when it comes to food, as long as it's not too spicy.
The six things I could never do without
2. The Internet
3. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert (how else will I know what I'm supposed to think!)
4. Freedom (The Bill of Rights kind)
5. My watch (I feel naked without it)
6. Parenthesis (it's like I'm thinking to you *wrinkles brow and concentrates*)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Also what life would be like spending it with someone I love.
On a typical Friday night I am
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here
You should message me if
Most likely I don't live anywhere near you; that's ok with me if it's ok with you. Six billion people on the planet, "The One" probably doesn't live next door. :P While obviously not ideal, I believe couples should be friends first and lovers second (but a close second ;) and getting to know each other online can help the friendship develop first.
