My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I have one brain, one body, and one planet, and I try to make the most of each of them. I live to explore as much of the physical and intellectual world as I can.

I don't lie about my age but my age lies about me.

I find being upside-down in mid-air strangely relaxing. I swing, I flip, I leap, I stretch. My first athletic passion was gymnastics, and always will be.

I like to climb sculptures formed by the slow-motion rampage of geological forces over 100 million years.

I think a lot about the nature of spacetime, and fundamental aspects of particle physics. I write some of these thoughts down. Several of these written-down thoughts have been published in peer-reviewed journals.

I believe the definition of tragedy is a day spent without growth or achievement.

I don't sing under the shower. I dance salsa. Cuban-style.

In 2010 I completed a six-month cycling journey across the USA without a support crew. For an encore I rode from Sydney to Adelaide. If you fancy being a partner-in-crime for another internal-combustion-engine-free adventure spanning entire continents, apply within...

Although I love cycling, I don't wear lycra. Even though I have got the body for it.

I find people who take care of their health (not necessarily elite athletes, but just people who try to live a healthy lifestyle) to be the most attractive. That includes keeping intellectually fit as well as physically fit.

There is a wikipedia page about me. I didn't write it.

I am the philosopher-scientist-adventurer you thought existed only in works of fiction.

And I think these personal introductions always sound wanky, but I keep experimenting and trying to have fun with them anyway :-)
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Professionally - ah, you know what? Everyone finds these things formulaic and tedious to write! So to spice it up a bit I'm going to randomly shuffle the bits of my profile into different headings. That way, you'll get to play the which-heading-was-that-supposed-to-be-under?-game. So...

Down with comfort food! Food should not be comfy! It should remind you that you're alive, and celebrate that fact. I'm mostly vegetarian (still eat seafood and when possible free-range poultry, but tend to avoid mammals, and I love my homemade yoghurt but avoid other dairy products), and adore anything made well with wholemeal grains and fresh vegetables. Good stir-fries, paella, curries, high-quality pizza, laksa, you name it. If it's food (as opposed to some generic food-like substance) I'll probably eat it.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Is there such a thing as a typical Friday night?
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Research in theoretical physics. There's an incredible feeling when you think you've understood something about the Universe that nobody else ever has before.

More generally, trying to be active and learn new stuff whenever I can.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Where I want to travel to on my next big journey. My wish list of places to see and things to do.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
When I curl up with a novel, I love science fiction that gets the science right (or tries to) so I like authors such as David Brin, early James P. Hogan, etc. and for contrast and some escapism, Philip Jose Farmer isn't bad. I think Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is brilliant and could re-read it numerous times. Factual stuff about history and evolution (both biological and societal) is also interesting, e.g. Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond, or A Force More Powerful by Ackerman and Duvall.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What would be the point of telling you something private here? If you want to know more about me, check out the personality traits and questions section of my profile, or even better, drop me a line and talk to me. I'm an open book - when you talk to me one-on-one.

My musical tastes are all over the place. It's easier to name individual pieces than genres. Pick anything from Vivaldi and Holst to The Propellerheads, Fleetwood Mac to Fatboy Slim.
Weird Al, Flanders and Swann, and of course Tom Lehrer are essential parts of my under-the-shower repertoire.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
If you're looking for a friend, message me if you enjoy stimulating conversation and/or dangling off cliffs, camping/bushwalking, kayaking, etc.

If you're after something more than friendship, you should message me if you like yourself. Self-confidence is sexy. Please note that I'm seeing someone and we're planning to open our relationship in the future. For the time being we're monogamous, but someday down the track that will change.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
1) A bicycle.
2) Notepad and pen. I work with equations, and I love to draw.
3) Sun
4) Surf
5) Mangoes!
6) Somewhere to do handstands and splits

Brightly-coloured clothing, and fluffy hair (apparently).

Doing the splits. No, seriously. I said I'm into gymnastics didn't I? Dangling off cliffs by my fingers. Muddling-through conversations in broken Spanish, while backpacking in Latin America. Making yoghurt, and I'm working on getting good at making sourdough bread. Improvising spicy food, especially Asian/Indian-inspired, though I've been on a bit of a Middle-Eastern kick lately.
