I was born in Xi'an, China, moved to Singapore at age 7 and came to Toronto at 13. Since arriving in Canada at such a young age, I have acquired plenty of Canadian culture while still retaining some of my Chinese values; I can still speak fluent Mandarin and my Chinese writing is mostly* legible.
My parents encouraged me to study engineering at UofT. But after working for a while, I realized that computer science is my true passion and went back to school. Now I'm done and will be starting a career in software engineering!
I have dabbled in many hobbies in my youth:
Sports: swimming, cycling, badminton, ping-pong, ski, ice skating
Music: have been playing trombone for 15+ years.
Misc: chess, reading non-fiction, baking, etc.
I'm on OkCupid looking for a long-term relationship. It seems like a good place and I like fancy algorithms! Wish me luck!
My New year resolutions will include returning to Toastmasters to improve public speaking, taking a fitness class, and reading cookbooks to expand my culinary repertoire.
I wonder how many I would be able to keep by the end of February...
Setting goals and creating plans.
Applying computer science algorithms to solve everyday problems.
That's because I'm a member of the Canadian Forces Reserves and have to be clean-shaven when I report for duty every week.
It also allows me to shave a few milliseconds off my lap time and conserve shampoo too, haha!
Movies: The Lion King, The Sound of Music, Star Wars
Shows: The Big Bang Theory, Hockey Night in Canada, Jeopardy
Music: Classical Music, Video Game Music, Disney Soundtracks
Food: Chinese food, blueberry muffins, home-made pizza
2. Fish spatula: Because that fish isn't going to flip by itself!
3. Library card: Knowledge = Power.
4. Bike helmet: To protect my precious...
5. Hot shower: Super relaxing at the end of the day.
6. Watch: To know when it's FUN time!
What's the moral of the story and how do I apply it?
Looking for deals in the weekly flyers and planning my grocery run.
It's so calm and invigorating, but at the same time I feel a little guilty about using so much water.
I'm seeking someone who shares similar background and upbringing as me. Bonus if you play a sport, speak Mandarin, or play an instrument!
