My Notes edit

My self-summary

I'm a science fiction fan, with a wide range of interests within that...books, music, movies, & comics (both American (mostly Marvel) & Japanese anime/manga variety. More so the Japanese variety in recent years). I have a Playstation 2, and generally avoid First-Person Shooters and fighting games because frankly I'm not very good at them. RPG's and strategy are my usuals. I've avoided getting an Xbox mostly because it's Micro$oft. Over the last few years, I've been gradually converting all of my computers to Linux, but even when I use Windows, I support the Firefox web browser.

The only major league sport I'm into at all is the NFL's Green Bay Packers, but I'm not as fanatical about it as the stereotypical cheesehead. NASCAR catches my eye once in a while. I watch G4TV's Ninja Warrior program fairly often.

About ten years ago, I spent 4 years in the Army, in a electronics repair specialty. Which means I'm qualified to be a janitor anywhere in the world ;), and I can handle camping out fairly well, even if I don't pursue it as a hobby. Oh, and I can fix things.

The majority of Myers-Briggs tests I've taken characterize me as INFP.

What I'm doing with my life

I work as a Production Assistant for a company that is so unique, if I try to describe it, it'll lead you back to my real identity. We're not there yet, you and I ;). My job does involve travel on occasion, and back when I was in the Army, I was stationed overseas for 2 years.

Outside of that, I manage to go to a few upper Midwestern science-fiction conventions every year (of the sort that present authors and musicians as Guests of Honor, as opposed to those dedicated to a single TV show). When I'm not traveling, or going to indie singer-songwriter live shows, I end up being a homebody; I wouldn't mind changing that, though :).

I'm really good at

Vocal music, computers (Windows 3.1 through XP, several flavors of Linux), handyman-type things.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

My sense of humor; I make puns and wisecrack a lot. I look (and act) younger than I am.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Really, too many to list completely. John Sanford's Prey series, Andrew Vachss's Burke novels, David Weber's Honor Harrington series, CJ Cherryh's atevi books, the Genshiken manga series, Anne McCaffrey's Pern books, Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books. Most movies I like are based on books I like.

Movies: Harry Potter, Serenity, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Lord of The Rings, Iron Man

Music: varies widely. Indie singer/songwriters, comedy/novelty songs, world/celtic, metal (though not as much as when I was younger), techno. Unusual music producing devices, like Animusic (dot com), the League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots (lemurbots dot org). Singing Tesla Coils! (search that on Youtube)

Food: Italian, Greek, Chinese, Thai, Mexican (genuine, not Taco Hell or Qdoba) -- almost anything goes, as long as there's at least a token presence of meat. NOT so interested in seafood more sophisticated than fishsticks or New England clam chowder.

The six things I could never do without

1) my laptop PC, and means to recharge it 2) music 3) my imagination 4) corrective lenses 5) caffeine (via Classic Coke or coffee w/cream&sugar) 6) red meat

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Space travel. Wondering where my flying car is. Wondering where EVERYONE's flying cars are.

On a typical Friday night I am

Sitting in coffeehouses or local bars (if I can stand the smoke) listening to obscure but amazingly good local musicians. I'll drive to Chicago or Madison, at least once per month each, to hear a favorite, Examples include: Milwaukee's Jayme Dawicki, ex-Milwaukeean Julie Moffit, Chicago's Stolie, or Madison's Amy Curl/Dan Kennedy, Clear Blue Betty, and Sunspot. If East Coast artists Victoria Vox or Kellie Lin Knott, or West Coast artists Arrica Rose, Martha Berner, or Tiff Jimber land here in flyover territory, I'm *there*!

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I'm willing enough to admit private things in private messages, but not out here.

You should message me if

Anything in this profile intrigues you. If you happen on this via the frustratingly-anonymous QuickMatch, my profile name is "HarmonicVoltage". What can I say, I was thinking about the Singing Tesla Coils when I made this profile ;)
