My self-summary
I recently relocated to TN from NYC. I grew up in Tennessee and have the roman numerals at the end of my name to prove it. I love to entertain, but don't do it enough. I believe that bacon is a condiment and that whiskey is good for the constitution (my seventh grade field trip was to the Jack Daniels Distillery--go figure).

I love to travel. A couple of years ago I spent two weeks with half a million other folks at a temple festival in Tamil Nadu, South India, a week in a villa in Tuscany with twenty friends, a couple of weeks upstate in the middle of nowhere with yoga buds, and a couple of weeks in TN (back when I was living in NYC) visiting the family and feeding the cows (not even kidding...). I recently went on a "business trip" to Costa Rica.

I am a Luddite who was most recently working on those dang intrawebs and the irony is not lost on me. My current fantasy is spending my workday in my paneled library, surrounded by my books, writing with my fountain pen on a legal pad. Until then, I guess I will stick with my MacBook.

I am currently shaking up just about everything about my life.
What I’m doing with my life
“For me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.”
― Neil deGrasse Tyson
I’m really good at
I make a mean duck confit and wild mushroom risotto. Seriously, it is really freakin' good.
I can hit curve balls (figuratively, not in any way literally).
I have occasionally been known to write a decent sentence.
The first things people usually notice about me
I recently met a friend at a bar in Hell's Kitchen. The twenty-something door-twink asked to see my ID. I took it from my wallet and handed it to him. He stared down at my ID and then looked back up at me, back down to the ID, and then back up at me. "You look good," he remarked, "I mean, really good." Whether or not he internally added the "for your age" that his drama implied, I am told it is pretty much true.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: anything about the Glass family by JD Salinger, Vonnegut, Lolita is better than candy, Geek Love is an all time favorite, Blood, Bones, & Butter, most things by or about Fitzgerald or any of his buds, lots of non-fiction--Dawkins, Dennett, Harris...

I have the complete works on my iPhone and visit it often.

Movies: Kill Bill, The Matrix, Roma, La Dolce Vita, House of Flying Daggers, Y Tu Mama Tambien, The Color Purple, Water, Harold and Maude should be mandatory viewing for all people without exception

Food: To begin, I ate everything. Then, for a long time, I was a vegetarian. Now, I eat everything again, but am definitely more conscientious about what I put in my body and where it comes from.
