My self-summary
I combine the sense of humor of Jon Stewart with the sense of adventure of Indiana Jones and the sense of direction of Mr. Magoo.
What I’m doing with my life
Loads. I teach university prep for international students during the day, tend bar a few nights a week, volunteer for an amazing, beautiful, quixotic organization and spend the rest of my time staying up too late with my bunch of awesome misfits or searching for curious, secret, and wonderous places.
I’m really good at
Making you laugh.

Blowing minds

Rolling cigarettes.

Singing like Johnny Cash. (Hit me up if you can do June - I need a karaoke duet partner)

Explaining what the fuck is going on in Game of Thrones.
The first things people usually notice about me
My Magritte tattoo. I get a lot of comments on it even from people who have no idea who Magritte is. Apparently a lot of people really like pipes.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm not going to list absolutely everything. How about I just try to give you an impression instead?

Books (Non-Fiction): Guns, Germs and Steel; Godel, Escher, Bach; Freakonomics. I think it's indicative that this was the easiest to come up with.

Books (Fiction): Since my non-fiction reading can be dense, I tend to go with lighter fictional fare: Terry Pratchett (who in a better world would be considered a great writer instead of merely a successful one), Neil Stephenson, Paolo Bacigalupi (I'll buy you a drink if you can tell me how to pronounce his name). Favorite poet: Lawrence Ferlinghetti (but my favorite poem is Yeats, 'The Second Coming').

Comics: Transmetropolitan; Lone Wolf and Cub; Batman: The Killing Joke

Movies: Blade Runner; True Romance; The Big Lebowski; Army of Darkness; The Prestige (It has Batman, Wolverine, Gollum and David Fucking Bowie as Nikola Fucking Tesla - it's a nerd buffet)

Shows: The Daily Show; Firefly; The Newsroom (and yes, I watch Game of Thrones - doesn't everyone?)

Music I was into before I fell into the time warp of living overseas: Johnny Cash (who will always be my favorite); The Dead Kennedys; Yasim Bey (back when he was the mighty Mos)

What I've been into lately: Old Crow Medicine Show (why yes, I am perennially stoked for Hardly Strictly); Doc Watson; Scroobius Pip; Cannonball Adderly; Ronald Jenkees (dubstep/glitch done well...really) I've also re-discovered my love of garage punk: Pussy Galore, The Velvet Underground, The Pixies, etc.

Food: Southern. (I'm a Californian to the bone but my ears are from Tennessee and my stomach is from South Carolina).
The six things I could never do without
Things to learn
Things that make me want to write about them
Things that leave me speechless
Two wheeled things with engines
Things to eat and drink
Things that involve being with my nearest and dearest
I spend a lot of time thinking about

Meaning and where it lies.

Whatever piece or bit that I'm working on at the moment, the vagaries of the English language, and the Oxford comma.

Why I miss California so much when I'm away and why I miss being away so much when I'm in California.

Whether or not I should go to Memphis Minnie's.

The Giants, the Niners, Everton.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working, unfortunately.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I went on a TV quiz show and did an impression of Yoda and Chewbacca doing a duet of a Frank Sinatra tune.
