My self-summary
Hey y'all. I was born and raised in Texas but after finishing grad school at UPenn, I have just moved to San Diego.

What do I like? Karaoke, improv comedy, foreign languages, jazz, theater, opera, and travel. I also enjoy board game nights or restaurant trips or pub trivia with friends, or even attending a baseball game or minor-league hockey.

Outside of work I love social dance like square, contra, and line dancing as well as two-stepping. I also sing in the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus.

It would be great to make some new friends in San Diego and eventually meet a nice, sweet, handsome guy to spend time with.

What I’m doing with my life
Trying to figure that out! I do research in a biology lab at UC San Diego, helping to figure out how to fight off bacteria. Outside of the lab, I hope to get involved with fun, quirky activities in the city; for example, some day I hope to be in a flash mob. The dance kind, not the criminal kind back in Philly.

I’m really good at
making you laugh with puns and references, both obscure and mainstream. It works best when I have someone to play off of, say, someone I'm on a coffee date with?

The first things people usually notice about me
that I'm friendly, polite, and will hold a conversation with almost anybody. Despite being from Texas, I don't have an accent (but I do say "y'all", as you probably noticed in the first sentence of the profile.)

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
A) Books: I haven't had much time for pleasure reading lately, so here are books I have liked, so you get a general sense: the Harry Potter series, Watership Down, and the His Dark Materials trilogy (I was crying at the end of the last book). Also Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

B) Movies: Comedies, comedies, comedies! My favorite ever is Clue. Others I like include Noises Off and The Emperor's New Groove. I also enjoy Hitchcock movies like Rear Window and The Man Who Knew Too Much. And movies with Audrey Hepburn (Wait Until Dark, How To Steal a Million) or Jimmy Stewart (Mr. Smith Goes to Washington).

C) Shows: Grimm, Once Upon a Time, Archer, Glee, Chopped, Happy Endings, Drop Dead Diva, some reality shows. I also like a couple of shows from BBC America, including Doctor Who. I was a huge LOST fan.

D) Music: Pretty retro: I listen to the music of the 50's-70's. Favorite groups include The Mamas and the Papas, The Monkees, The Beach Boys, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, The Carpenters, and Simon and Garfunkel. I also follow Eurovision (crazy for an American, I know), and I try to watch the competition on the Internet. And if someone knows where to watch live bluegrass here in San Diego, please tell me. I didn't even know I liked it till I left Texas.

E) Foods: Italian, Thai, Indian, Tex-Mex, Ethiopian, among others. My favorite single dish is probably chicken satay, although the peanut sauce it comes with can make or break it.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If I'm the only one in the elevator and my iPod is playing a song I really like, I'll sing and dance until the moment the door starts opening.
