I am reserved, skeptical, and nerdy.

My Self-Summary

I am a nerd in the modern sense of the word. I play video games, regularly read sci-fi and fantasy, and depend on the internet for just about all information about the world. It's always best to start with your problems, right?

I went to college for a year, and found that it doesn't work very well if you don't like your major. So, I took a year off to participate in a Hollywood-esque introspection montage, found something I think I'd enjoy doing, and am presently pursuing an actuarial degree with renewed hope and vigour.

I'm fairly open minded, so long as you present a good argument. I enjoy debate. I'm a lot nicer than I think I am. I laugh a lot, but mostly to myself, and usually when I shouldn't. I love hearing stories and making stories. And I know where my towel is.

What I’m doing with my life

My life has turned into a waiting game. There are things I must do before I hit the next major mark, and it takes time to do them. Mostly, I need money and a degree.

The money is being take care of by a job I enjoy very much. I work part-time for a visual communications company. I'm a part-time employee, fixing their technology-related problems and fulfilling any other odd jobs that they can find. More than anything else, I find it to be an entertaining job.

The degree is slower. I'm earning some basic credit requirements at the local community college, then transferring to some place more reputable as I pursue the actuarial profession. I still have a couple years on that, though.

I’m really good at

I'm skilled at playing games (video or otherwise), making facts up when I can't remember them, procrastinating, finding information on the internets, picking up new skills, and enjoying life.

The first things people usually notice about me

If we've just met, people notice that I'm rather reserved. Call it shy or socially awkward or any of a dozen other synonyms you'd prefer to stick there, but I'm fairly quiet until I've gotten to know people quite well. On the other hand, being on the less vocal end of conversations has taught me to be a good listener.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: The Name of the Wind, The Ender series, the Death Gate saga, the Hitchhiker's Guide trilogy, and presently, Joe Abercrombie's work, or any other random book I'm likely reading.

Movies: Back to the Future, Changling, Clerks, Primer, Save the Green Planet; Movies aren't something that easily becomes a favourite of mine. I don't dislike movies, but I'm not very good at recalling the good ones.

Music: Generally, I like more upbeat, happy music. My tastes include a bit of pop, synth, a cappella, and when the mood strikes me: punk, rock, Celtic and classical. Specific bands would include the Dresden Dolls, Freezepop, Rockapella, Emerald Rose.

Food: I'm quite a fan of good food, no matter the culture. Sushi, a particularly well-made pizza, a good curry, cheese and crackers: it's all fine. I'm always willing to try a new dish; after all, spice is the variety of life. Or something like that.

The six things I could never do without

Besides the very basic necessities of life, I couldn't do without the following: stories, the internet, good friends, music, a well-stocked kitchen, and, um... air?

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I spend a lot of time thinking about where I'm going in life. Why am I doing what I'm doing, instead of what I'm not? I question whether or not I've done my life "right" as I stare at the ceiling, unable to fall asleep. Then I realize that it doesn't really matter, so I put on my headphones and stop worrying about such things.

On a typical Friday night I am

On a typical Friday night, I am frantically doing all those things I said I'd do this week but never got around to doing. At least, that's what I should be doing. In reality, I put those things off for yet another night, and instead entertain myself with something flashy and electronic, unless I'm in the middle of a book, in which case I read until I fall asleep (which doesn't work too well, as a good book often prevents a good night's rest.)

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing most of the time, and I live in constant fear that somebody will eventually notice.

You should message me if

You should message me if you want to. It is your right, as a sentient being, to do whatever you want. Nothing should stop that, especially not a few letters of text on your monitor. Besides, I'd likely enjoy whatever message you send.
