I am quirky, passionate, and adventurous.
My Self-Summary
My name is Jessica, but a lot of my friends call me Belle so take
your pick! I love to get outside and walk around on forest trails
or explore more urban environments. I'm a very curious person and
love to try new things.
I love to cook and bake, but I don't eat meat because of factory
farming. (If I know for sure it was happily raise or caught in the
wild then I might eat it.) I love animals and grew up with a lot of
them in my life, from rats to cats and even a praying mantis once.
I'm also inclined to hug trees.
I can get quite crafty and artistic too, I knit and make jewelry
mostly but I sew, draw, and make terrariums too.
I'm a bit of a career student. I love school and I've studied a lot
of subjects: computer science, linguistics,
urban planning, Japanese,
anthropology,
and fine arts. So if you're looking for some useless information,
I'm your gal for it. Currently, I'm finishing up my second
bachelors in fine arts with a
metalsmithing concentration but my
first degree was in urban planning. After this though, I don't plan
on going near a school for a long while. I'm very burned out!
Also, I'm easily amused and I love icanhascheezburger.com and I'm a
bit of a nerd and probably will pick up on all sorts of obscure
nerdy references.
What I’m doing with my life
While finishing up my second bachelors, I hope to start my own
jewelry company and show work in galleries but I'm not too set in
stone. I'm just floating down the river for now to see where it
takes me and running around trying as many new things as humanly
possible.
Recently I've been getting interested with working on cars and
such. I suppose this is my latest "topic" to study and I got a new
used car that has it's own set of issues ready to be my guinea pig.
I’m really good at
Being hilarious when I least intend on it, cooking and baking,
getting crafty, troubleshooting practically anything, being
mechanically inclined, and navigating like a pro.
The first things people usually notice about me
I tend to come off a little abrasive at first to some, but people
quickly learn that I am actually compassionate and opinionated. I
suppose that's not a very awesome thing to notice...
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I love to read so it's a bit hard to narrow it down but these are a
few that I read again and again: Deep Economy, The Alphabet Versus
the Goddess, American Gods, Kushiel's Dart, Archangel series, Lord
Of The Flies, Blankets, Owly, The Maxx, Bone, anything by Banana
Yoshimoto.
I'm not too big on movies but I love these:
Blade Runner, Amadeus,
Lost In
Translation, Ironman, Serenity, Amelie, Persepolis,
Equilibrium, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless
Mind, and Donnie Darko. I tend to like indie films. I'm more into
watching TV shows. I love The Office, House MD, The Daily Show,
Firefly, The
Adventures of Brisco County Jr., Fringe, Burn Notice, Arrested
Development, Battlestar Galatica, and Sealab 2021 to name a
few.
Video Games: I love Katamari Damacy, Patapon, Loco Roco, Silent
Hill, Okami, King of Fighters, 2-D Sonic the Hedgehog, and Toe Jam
& Earl.
Music:
Depeche
Mode, Goldfrapp, Kosheen, Tori Amos, Emiliana Torrini, Chris
Cornell, Hooverphonic, Gorillaz, Coldplay, Daft Punk, Massive
Attack, Portishead, NIN,
Royksopp, The Postal Service, Lamb,
(Older) Incubus, Electric Six, Adele.
Food: What's not to love?! I'm a big fan of Japanese, Indian, Thai,
and Middle Eastern cuisine but my favorites among favorites are
pizza and sushi. I also have a strange addiction to Nutella. I love
whiskey, gin, and beer as well but I'm a little snobby about it.
The six things I could never do without
(In no particular order) Delicious food, friends and family, my
jewelry tools, long lazy mornings, animals and plants, and my sense
of touch.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think a lot about environmental issues, animal rights, human's
relationship to other animals, culture, free trade agreements, the
farm bill, and the psychology of urban planning. But, on the
lighter side, I'm most often thinking about what I'm going to make
for lunch or dinner and new artistic endeavors.
On a typical Friday night I am
Relaxing at home reading a good book, knitting while watching
something or I'm out with my friends at the bar or hanging at
someone's house. Or, sometimes, out looking for trouble.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Well that's no fun, I've got to maintain some semblance of a
mysterious persona.
