I am adventurous, outgoing/shy, and compassionate.
My Self-Summary
To say that I am an unusual individual is an understatement. My
tastes vary greatly- everything from
Anthropology (my major), down to
recognizing almost every breed of
dog.
People say I tend to make their lives exciting, pushing them and
myself to
travel(like to Mardis Gras), and to put
myself in odd but wonderful situations (like being adopted by a
rural village in
Thailand). I love to
research, and find fantastic
opportunities to take me out of my comfort zone.
I am best known for giving people a hand if they need it when it
comes to navigating Government processes or going about job
hunting, and also for my unusual take on
religion. That is a whole topic that
can't be covered in this little box ;)
What I’m doing with my life
I am newly finished my BA in Anthropology and Dialogue at Simon
Fraser University. I am returning to BCIT/Emily Carr in the fall
for their Design Essentials program, hopefully to give me a more
competitive edge in the communications field. I am so excited to
flex my artistic muscles!
Life really never stops or slows down for you, unless of course you
are living through the worst unemployment times in 26 years. I
believe it will all work out in the end, as long as I stay alert.
Yes, the world needs more lerts.
If nothing else, I am going to run away and teach english in
Thailand!
I’m really good at
Reading, writing, making people smile, public speaking, being
creative in general, thinking outside of the box, researching,
finding ways around problems.
Sounds like my resume, ha! Not sure exactly what they expected in
this box, but there you have it.
The first things people usually notice about me
I am really friendly, and approachable.
For people who talk to me online a bit before we meet, the way I
write is the way I talk. No surprises!
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Book- Life of Pi, Sarah Douglas novels, I love Harry Potter books
(except the fifth one, it was terrible), anything by Tamora Pierce
if I feel like reading escapism literature, and pretty much any
historical
fiction. My best friend is trying to get me into Romance
novels, but so far that's not taking. Now that I am out of school,
I am enjoying reading ethnographies now, especially my favorite; In
Search of Respect: Selling Crack in El Barrio by Phillipe
Bourgois.
Movies- I enjoy adventure, romantic comedies, historical fiction,
fantasy, and my DVDs of the entire first season of
Fraggle Rock. My favorite
movie is Alegria. I would love to talk to someone else who has
actually seen it, one day.
Music- My favorite band has been
Great Big Sea since I was 16
(super loyal, that's me!). I also enjoy new country, rock, oldies,
punky pop, and alternative. I am really enjoying a band called
Dispatch at the moment, but I have no idea what to classify them
under.
Foods- Japanese, Thai, and Greek top my list. Basically anything
other than Mexican. I love to cook, and the courses I took in
Thailand are paying off!
The six things I could never do without
1) Coffee outings with my best friends 2) My family 3) Warm
clothing 4) Chocolate (89% dark) 5) Escapism literature 6) The sun
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Morals actually. Defining "right" and "wrong".
On a typical Friday night I am
Doing any number of things, depending on the time of year, and how
the stars are aligned that night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
After riding an elephant bareback for 4 hours, I couldn't close my
legs for two days.
You should message me if
... you are curious. Don't be shy, I don't bite!
