My self-summary
I was born in Taiwan, but grew up in Ohio. I spent seven years in NYC going to school, seeing shows, drinking late, promenading 'round town, and watching people. I moved to the Bay for grad school, and have just moved to SF after 6 years in Temescal (which I still visit every week).

I'm a bit of a dilettante, but I really try to follow through on each of my pursuits. I experimented with religion in college, which was a weird time in my life. I've been electrocuted by a power line. I like some mild teasing. I once got in line at 5 am in NYC to get tickets to see Lou Reed, and the show was awful. I'm an idealist and a bit of a romantic, but I am always managing expectations to minimize disappointment. I do dumb acrobatics when I get very drunk. I try hard to make people laugh, but pretend to be unflappable. I'm concerned that I might be a bit twee. I am definitely more charming in person.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a biochemist at UC Berkeley. I like to pontificate and make up facts about spatial organization of proteins in cell membranes. I'm also looking for the time and discipline to write the great american short story or the shortest american novel.
I’m really good at
listening, but bad at hearing. I might've gone to one too many rock shows, but in a quiet place, I'm a very good listener. Also I'm good at dancing to 80's music. I'm also sometimes good at cooking. oh and laughing... I love to laugh, even at my own jokes.
The first things people usually notice about me
that I'm neither hispanic nor the Trojan son of Priam.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
books: Anna Karenina, Pride and Prejudice, Middlesex, Me Talk Pretty One Day, CivilWarLand in Bad Decline, Howard's End, graphic novels
music: I like all sorts of dreamy pop/shoegazer/britpop. yo la tengo breaks my heart every day. Leonard Cohen is our generation's greatest songwriter. I might be 80 years old.
movies: comedies and expansive dramas (including period pieces)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
what everyone thinks about... the meaning of life! and sex and love and truth... you know, the usual.
On a typical Friday night I am
I am often out either getting dinner or drinks with a friend(s), or working late in the lab. Deep down inside, though, I think I'd rather just hang out at home with the TV or a book/music.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My parents have never explained the birds and the bees to me, but I think I figured it out. It's about flying right?
You should message me if
you're cool and funny and cute and will judiciously laugh when I am being funny, but be kind enough to humor me when I am not. Plastic frame glasses are always a plus.
